Really disturbing anti science and authoritarian, though I have some sympathy for the brainwashed teacher who is following policy twitter.com/lporiginalg/status/1139572227307794432?s=19

Support to the student, WTF are we allowing our kids to be brainwashed in this way?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 14/06/2019 20:50

Hm. Teacher in a v difficult position - he is toeing the party line, and we don't know the preceding situation in class. Blustering and havering, though, isn't he? And the child is calm and rational.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 14/06/2019 20:57

Star pupil well done.I wonder if he is a child from someone on here Grin
Yes the teacher sounded like he was reeling off points from Inclusivity, & Diversity training...wonder where he got all those ideas from. The authority, what authority?

Cwenthryth · 14/06/2019 21:03

Teacher in a v difficult position - he is toeing the party line

But he could have approached it calmly and in a no-blame fashion - ‘well, yes, Murray, many people do believe there are only two genders, or rather more accurately, sexes. Other people believe gender is a jelly baby spectrum from Barbie to GI Joe. But most importantly none of us want anyone to feel unwelcome in this classroom. I hear your opinion, Thankyou for sharing it”.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/06/2019 21:05

Having watched that, I'm sure the teacher didn't believe it either but he's forced to go along with it. He more or less said so. Probably thought he'd be in trouble if he let this stand.

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2019 21:07

I couldn't give two shits about the teacher if they are 'just following orders' ...

That is not a defence.

RubyViolet · 14/06/2019 21:08

I do feel sorry for the teacher in this situation, who knows what he really thinks of this position. I guess the video will be removed imminently, it is frightening enough for teachers without being filmed in the workplace.
Good on Murray though for sticking to his principles.

Datun · 14/06/2019 21:10

Gosh, well done Murray.

A kid with the ability to not only think critically, but with the guts to say it.

And yes, that teacher may not believe it. But for fuck's sake, we have to start somewhere. 'Yeah, Murray, you've got a point. I see where you're coming from.' Might have been a better reaction.

FermatsTheorem · 14/06/2019 21:14

I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for that teacher. When you've grown up studying the history of the twentieth century, and know anything at all about how authoritarian regimes flourish, any one prepared to go down the unthinking "just following orders/policy laid down by central authorities" line fully deserves to be held to account.

Awning10 · 14/06/2019 21:15

He's a science teacher - he just wants to get on with the lesson - GCSE results are looming.

Redshoeblueshoe · 14/06/2019 21:16

The teacher presumably had the opportunity to tell the HT/Union whoever, that he didn't agree with it.
Far easier to bully a child - which is what he was doing.
I hope Murray takes this further

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2019 21:18

I am going to say this now. If you are a teacher and you do not speak out, then you are complicit with any scandal that eventually comes from all this.

And there is one coming.

It needs teachers to speak out.

slipperywhensparticus · 14/06/2019 21:18

So what about this child on a GCSE science paper are they teaching fiction not facts?

JackyHolyoake · 14/06/2019 21:19

If the teacher openly agreed with him he would probably be sacked.

Then be sacked!

No adult should be promoting such false ideology to children / adolescents!

Being sacked would draw attention to this corruption.

FermatsTheorem · 14/06/2019 21:20

He's a science teacher?!?!!?

Fucking he'll, I'd assumed it was some humanities teacher tasked with taking this shit in a PHSE lesson.

But a science teacher? Is he also teaching intelligent design and flat earth theories?

Cwenthryth · 14/06/2019 21:21

Teacher doesn’t even need to agree with him, he just needs to not punish and bully him for his views.

Awning10 · 14/06/2019 21:25

The student was filming - you could argue that it was the student that was bullying.

nauticant · 14/06/2019 21:27

Because this will never happen, then it hasn't happened. This means that the video must be fake. Best to delete all copies and forget we ever saw it.

JackyHolyoake · 14/06/2019 21:27

Someone also needs to remind that teacher of Article 9 of the UK Human Rights Act 1998 [which applies to Scotland]:

Freedom of thought, conscience and religion

Quiz question. Who wrote:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Piss off SNP.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 14/06/2019 21:36

What a bloody awful piece. But it shoes just how far this insanity has got - punishing a child for stating the truth.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 14/06/2019 21:37

Do we know that the teacher is a science teacher? A science teacher would be talking "sex" not "gender" surely? (although maybe has been reading Edexcel GCSE biology papers....)

FermatsTheorem · 14/06/2019 21:38

- you could argue that it was the student that was bullying

You could argue that, if you felt like talking complete bullshit.

Given the state of censorship and even police harassment and vexatious litigation directed at anyone who dares to question the authority and teaching of the holy genderist office, I'd film it if only to have evidence that I had remained polite and respectful throughout the encounter in case I ended up in court or had to fight expulsion from school.

JackyHolyoake · 14/06/2019 21:39

Piss off SNP.

Indeed .. one does have to wonder at why the SNP government, led by Nicola Sturgeon, wants or needs to corrupt the minds of Scottish children and young adolescents.
