Wagamama and gender neutral toilets

TulipsTulipsTulips · 31/05/2019 20:55

40% of wagamama’s toilets will be gender neutral by September. The last thing I want to do when I go out for a meal is share the facilities with men. We are different and deserve privacy! How have women’s interests become such a low priority?

Isn't it lovely how businesses choose to virtue signal with no care for what customers might feel? I don't actually mind mixed sex toilets in small restaurants, but to be so fucking virtuous and smug about it is just irritating.

TulipsTulipsTulips · 31/05/2019 21:03

Correction to my post- 40% of wagamama restaurants will have fully gender neutral toilets by September. That’s a little different to how I described it in my first post.

That's a shame, I love Wagamama's. But no, not eating somewhere there's no single sex toilet provision.

thenightsky · 31/05/2019 21:06

My local Waga is opposite a big Wetherspoons. If and when it goes GN, I shall make a point of popping over the road for a pee.

LizzieSiddal · 31/05/2019 21:06

I’m not sure what you mean.

Is it that 40% will have ALL their loos GN or that 40% will have A gender neutral loo.

shoofly · 31/05/2019 21:07

We have a Wagamamas locally. Toilets are individual fully enclosed cubicles with sink in. They're always immaculately clean. I'm honestly struggling to see what the problem is?

SlipperyLizard · 31/05/2019 21:09

From reading the article, it will be fully enclosed individual cubicles. I’m happy with that (assuming everyone cleans up after themselves!).

TulipsTulipsTulips · 31/05/2019 21:11

@Lizzie, The article says some restaurants will only have gender neutral toilets. It sounds like some but not all restaurants won’t have the option of a separate women’s / men’s toilet

My local Wagamama has a corridor of individual rooms each with loo and sink. Very clean and well maintained - I have no issues with this system, women's privacy is maintained.

ScipioAfricanus · 31/05/2019 21:17

I do appreciate what they’ve said with not taking anything away from others, and not just making women’s toilets ‘gender neutral’. I too don’t have a problem with it in the case of individual toilets and having a young son I find it tricky as he’s too old to go in the women’s with me but too young for me to feel happy with him in the men’s alone (I know this is and has been another thread...).

I don’t like the reason for this change as it feels like pandering to TRAs and unnecessary, but I am okay with the solution of properly enclosed individual cubicles, on the whole.

Outanabout · 31/05/2019 21:18

As I said in previous post, what I object to is the virtue signalling. Everyone in the whole world has to be let know that the most important people are going to be catered to.

QOFE · 31/05/2019 21:24

Every Wagamama I've been in has completely enclosed single toilets with proper walls and door, with the sink inside, that open onto a corridor (ie, no shared hand washing facilities etc) So, I don't really mind this tbh.

ScipioAfricanus · 31/05/2019 21:25

I agree. In the article Transgender Pride is mentioned - apparently trans people are so important that there is Transgender Pride as well as Pride for LGBTQ+.

AncientLights · 31/05/2019 21:30

I was recently in a Pret a Manger. The toilets were 'unisex' - floor to ceiling walls and doors for each cubicle but communal basins and mirrors. Emailed my objection - reply was basically 'sorry we won't be seeing you again but most of our toilets are now like that'. Au revoir, Pret.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/05/2019 21:31

I went into Wagamama in Cardiff with dd (14) . I went up with her to the loos and I was so glad I did. A narrow corridor with stalls off it to your right, the first few for men, and the ones at the end for women. So a woman has to walk past the men’s to get to hers. It was deserted, not brilliantly lit, and actually quite creepy. I didn’t need a wee, so I waited for her, and one man came in while we were there. Would have been incredibly easy for a man to grab my dd and push her into a cubicle if she had gone up alone. We really like eating there but it put me off that they have so little care for women. Both dd and I hated the loos and I certainly would never let my daughters go up there alone.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 21:32

In the words of Alison Moyet - ‘(Wagamama) fuck you’.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/05/2019 21:33

Why are restaurants doing this ? Surely they have far more women who need privacy and safety , than they do trans males who insist on using the Ladies ?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 21:35

Virtue signalling that’s all. They don’t need to - there isn’t a law saying they have to. It’s all for trans women. Funny when they have to be dragged kicking and screaming to provide disabled loos eh? Or turn a blind eye to parents with babies/proms trying to juggle facilities, or breastfeeding mums.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 21:37

Has anyone got a spreadsheet of all these woman-unfriendly goods, facilities, products and services etc?

SimonJT · 31/05/2019 21:38

The toilets in Wagamama are the same as disabled toilets, for any sex, a full door and a sink in the room. So I assume people who don’t like this set up are also out there fighting for sex specific disabled toilets?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 21:40

All of them?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 21:40

And they are making a big rainbow clad song and dance about it.

Outanabout · 31/05/2019 21:43

SimonJt I don't understand the point you're making. Did you read and understand what SirVix posted?

PeoniesarePink · 31/05/2019 21:44

Our local one has these loos. Which are fine until you've been in after a man who has pissed all over the floor and seat. And by 10pm when said men have been drinking all evening, their aim is possibly even worse. It's revolting.

The more people vote with their feet over this, the better.
