Wagamama and gender neutral toilets

TulipsTulipsTulips · 31/05/2019 20:55

40% of wagamama’s toilets will be gender neutral by September. The last thing I want to do when I go out for a meal is share the facilities with men. We are different and deserve privacy! How have women’s interests become such a low priority?

MAP = paedophile. Give it a cute flag and mascot and away we go. PIE all over again.

Treefloof · 01/06/2019 11:37

What's MAPS?
Sorry yes minor attracted persons. God how awful, almost twee.
An attempt by paedophiles to make their choice more palatable.

tinabloodysparkle · 01/06/2019 12:19

I'm so angry about this decision by Wagamama's and there's women on here who can't see the problem (because they don't have a problem with it).

Try thinking about other people for once - the majority of women do not want to share toilets with strange men for a variety of reasons - not least the piss all over the seat/floor/walls Angry

Yes I do avoid places with mixed-sex toilets for this v reason. Fortunately visiting Wagamama is not compulsory so I will choose in future not to go there.

Someone suggested up-thread a database of sex-segregated toilets - yes-please!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/06/2019 13:12

Even if the loos are separate rooms - the principle stands ‘it’s absolutely ok to obliterate sex segregated loos’. What about staff changing rooms - do they expect women to strip and get into their uniform with men?’

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 14:20

I do think stickers are a good idea. Nowadays I glare really suspiciously at anything like vents or sprinklers in the ceiling, anything can be hiding a camera. A surprising number of people think it's sheer paranoia to be aware of that danger

ballsdeep · 01/06/2019 14:24

This is ridiculous.. I for one won't be wanting there. I'm all for trans people and whoever the hell people want to be. I don't care if they are pink, blue, orange or have three heads. I do really hate the fact that we, as women, are being told to share toilets and private spaces. Wtaf? Men and women shouldn't share toilets. I would feel incredibly uncomfortable sharing a mixed toilet.

ballsdeep · 01/06/2019 14:25

And I really resent the fact people are being called transphobic because they are WOMEN and don't want to share with MEN. Nothing about being trans

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 14:29

Thinking about the wording for stickers... Short and to the point. Something along the lines of AS THESE TOILETS ARE MIXED-SEX, BE AWARE OF THE DANGER OF HIDDEN CAMERAS. IF ANY ARE SEEN PLEASE REPORT TO POLICE.

???

notfromworcester · 01/06/2019 14:42

The unisex ones I went in at pret were horrid. There was a bloke shaving at the sink there once.

And the ones in costa always reek.

I'm not transphobic - I just don't want to share toilets with men.

Yabbers · 01/06/2019 14:53

So I assume people who don’t like this set up are also out there fighting for sex specific disabled toilets?
Exactly. Why can’t men and women use the same enclosed cubicles? As long as they are regularly cleaned, (which they should be anyway) what’s the problem? I’ve seen plenty of toilets in the ladies’ room left in a disgusting state. It’s not the preserve of men to pee on the seat.

There was an uproar locally when our hospital announced it was going gender neutral with the toilets. Every single WC they had was a separate room, with sink and WC and a lockable door, off a main corridor or waiting area. This change to gender neutral involved changing the signs on the door and putting a san bin in every toilet. But apparently people were threatening to boycott and refusing to attend appointments there. 🙄

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 14:53

notfromworcester oh dear that makes me squirm with remembered guilt - I was ages in the loo in a shopping mall once, got really annoyed because someone kept trying the door, when I finally deigned to vacate the loo there was a poor homeless guy standing outside with a towel and shaving gear discreetly hidden behind his back. I wished the floor would open and swallow me.

Yabbers · 01/06/2019 14:54

There was a bloke shaving at the sink there once.
Oh, the horror 🙄

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 14:57

Where the fuck are all these filthy disgusting ladies' toilets people keep banging on about? I've seen untidy ones, or ones that haven't been cleaned in yonks, but not disgusting ones.

paffuto · 01/06/2019 15:01

I sometimes wonder if it's less to do with not caring about women but more to do with sucking up to the new woke people? But why? Why is that small percentage so important? Just can't figure it out. Bewildering!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/06/2019 15:02

You’ve never been in a petroleum station loo then. I did once (desperate) on the M6. There was (and I apologise if you are eating) shit all up the walls and the toilet looked as if someone had tipped a bucket of chocolate mousse into it (it wasn’t mousse).

SimplySteveRedux · 01/06/2019 15:08

My local steakhouse, favourite restaurant for 20 years, is part of a group in the process of undergoing conversions across the group. I sent an email in to manager of the restaurant and higher up, they couldn't care less about my views. So I'm looking elsewhere for my yummy food needs outside the group, the group also doesn't cater well to disabled customers, fun when you're in a wheelchair, they can do one.

paffuto · 01/06/2019 15:11

But why? What hold does this small percentage have over seemingly, just about everyone?

paffuto · 01/06/2019 15:19

It's an over the top fawning. I honestly can't ever remember a time (I'm in my sixties) when companies, government, people, etc were falling over themselves to grovel to such a small percentage whilst overriding the views of 50%. Mind boggling.

AlwaysComingHome · 01/06/2019 15:23

Given that single sex toilets have been the default for over a century, it shouldn’t be up to us to defend them.

If anyone here has a desperate need to share facilities with the opposite sex it is up to them to make that case.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/06/2019 15:24

Men. It’s men. Would PIE have had any traction at all if it was female paedophiles?

Yabbers · 01/06/2019 15:24

Where the fuck are all these filthy disgusting ladies' toilets people keep banging on about? I've seen untidy ones, or ones that haven't been cleaned in yonks, but not disgusting ones.

Asda, normally 😆

But any service station too.

NunoGoncalves · 01/06/2019 15:26

If they're all individual small rooms with sinks etc. then I can't see why they were ever separated by sex in the first place tbh

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 15:35

That explains it I guess. I'm not in UK so not familiar with motorway service stations, we tend not to have them here. Though I've been to one on the M4 and was impressed with how clean it was.

SimplySteveRedux · 01/06/2019 15:36

I'm thinking of creating a leaflet warning women of the risk of hidden cameras, and maybe how to use nail polish. Something people can download and print off.

Please do.

SimplySteveRedux · 01/06/2019 15:44

So it seems there's no existing database of GN toilets or their provisions/cleanliness/locale etc. I'll be setting one up, it's own website, from Wednesday.
