Wagamama and gender neutral toilets

TulipsTulipsTulips · 31/05/2019 20:55

40% of wagamama’s toilets will be gender neutral by September. The last thing I want to do when I go out for a meal is share the facilities with men. We are different and deserve privacy! How have women’s interests become such a low priority?

Good point re. voyeurism risk. It's not paranoia, this has happened.

shrug there are better places to get noodles and their ramen broth isn't up to much. Not going there until they sort out single-sex provision.

LangCleg · 01/06/2019 09:14

It makes it easier for men to plant hidden cameras when they legitimately have access to the toilet. These aren't just for their use, there is a market for toilet fetish online, especially public toilets.

Yes. A busy market! Tiny cameras. Cost tuppence. Easy to install. Does anyone here really fancy videos of them changing a tampon being traded online? Because it is happening.

Also, are these "private" cubicles soundproofed? Because there are also men who will still in a stall all night, listening to women piss.

LangCleg · 01/06/2019 09:16

sit in a stall

I can't type for toffee.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/06/2019 09:17

We had mixed sex toilets at work. It resulted in me not being able to use the toilets because they were so disgusting.

They eventually made the toilets single sex (female) and now there is no piss over the floor/seat and I've not seen a woman peeing with the door open either.

It's the principlr with Wagamama. I won't be going anymore because they are trying so hard to suck up to men.

Giggorata · 01/06/2019 09:27

I know people are a bit bored with the “it's sex, not gender” bit, but this is why they are managing to sneak the whole thing past everyone - it's not gender neutral, it's unisex, mixed sex, or whatever..

MaverickSnoopy · 01/06/2019 09:32

I have different views on this.

Mixed sex toilets - not fine

Single sex toilets - my preference

Individual cubicles - fine is clean and well maintained but not if too far removed from the restaurant itself that it could be a danger to women (hello local wagamamas who have put their toilets on an empty floor down a badly lit corridor)

Fwiw my sister can't go into the single enclosed cubicles as she has a fear of confined spaces and was raped so is terrified she'll be pulled into one by a man.

We are never going to please everyone with any of the existing or proposed options. I actually think we need single sex toilets AND a selection of enclosed cubicles that can be used by either sex.

Those who scream transphobia. What about women who have been raped? Can we not think about these people too? I have been raped and would not want to be in a space (changing room or toilet etc) where a man could enter when I am on my own. Why is it transphobia for me or any other survivor of rape to be worried about a man having the ability of coming into a place where they are alone and vulnerable? I don't know them, if they're a decent person or not. Serious question. I'd like a serious answer.

butteryellow · 01/06/2019 09:35

I think the reason the womens' is past the mens is so that men have no reason to be loitering near the women's toilets.

I have no idea if it's safer that way, or to not have to pass the mens to get to the womens'.

I do prefer when if there's a corridor of individual toilets, one is labelled for women, purely because in my experience men do wee on the floor more, and it makes the toilets stink. Frequent cleaning would solve that I suppose (or men aiming better/clearing up after themselves)

FamilyOfAliens · 01/06/2019 09:42

I work for wagamama, have done for years .... our toilets have always been mixed

So why aren’t Wagamama putting our a statement that their toilets are “mixed sex” rather than the wanky “gender neutral”?

Much more honest and it lets people know exactly what they are getting.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/06/2019 09:44

It seems like Wagamama consulted with trans groups but no women's groups.
Wagamama has no respect for females.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/06/2019 09:48

They do realise that they are popular (well around here) with mums and kids?

This stream roller of the normalisation transvestism (TWAW) is orchestrated by who? I find it very sinister. What is the agenda? Removal of all sex based protection and boundaries?

Then what - what will be the next ‘inclusion’?

LangCleg · 01/06/2019 09:51

So, which member of Wagamama staff is charged with sweeping all these wonderful mixed sex cubicles to check for hidden cameras? How often is this done? What steps have they taken to ensure female customers are aware of this risk? Have they upgraded their insurance? What compensation do they propose to pay to women who find videos of themselves in Wagamama toilets being traded online?

Perhaps we should write to them for answers to these important and pressing questions?

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 10:00

I wonder what proportion of women have suffered sexual assault, compared to proportion of population who are trans? Why are one tiny group so much more important than another traumatised group?

Like many other women, I was raped. However, it was in my own home by someone I knew, so I don't have the fear of being vulnerable in strange places that I'd have if it had happened elsewhere. But I can absolutely understand how I'd feel if it had. Nowadays I have burglar alarm and dogs, and don't ever take my safety for granted.

Really, nobody gives a fuck about women.

howonearthdidwegethere · 01/06/2019 10:01

I've written to Wagamama to seek clarity on the proposed layout.

It's a good idea to get in now with these questions before the refurbishment begins.

TheInebriati · 01/06/2019 10:17

I'm thinking of creating a leaflet warning women of the risk of hidden cameras, and maybe how to use nail polish. Something people can download and print off.

Justhadathought · 01/06/2019 10:25

A recently opened branch of 'Rosa's Thai' at the Albert Dock in Liverpool has toilets marked 'All Genders'. At least they are all self contained units - including hand basins, though. I did make a point of saying to staff " What does All Genders mean? Does it mean mixed sex; if so, why not just say so". They did seem sensitive to how this may be received - as it must be confusing for people, especially some older people 'All genders' is a trendy modern virtue signalling thing.

CarolDanvers · 01/06/2019 10:25

These toilets sound fine. Nando's now do the same as do Five Guys. This is not the concern. The concern is the complete overturning of women's spaces and ignoring of their wishes without reference to them. It's all very well doing this in huge commercial premises owned by companies who have £millions to throw at refurbishments, PR and maintaining their public reputation. My concerns are regarding the public and non public toilets in smaller, cheaper business/offices/independent bars and restaurants etc; who haven't got or don't want to spend the money to do it well and just plonk everyone in together because it's cheap woke points. Apparently it's fine to do that, and the automatic assumption is that women will have to like or lump it or, you know, TRANSPHOBIC! This is nothing to do with transphobia it's about something huge in society being taken from women by force and without asking them if they're ok with it. You're dim if you can't see that.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/06/2019 10:26

Normalisation of the breaking of woman’s boundaries. That is all.

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 10:30

TheInebreati I suggested the idea recently of stickers that could be stuck on shop windows ad advertising the fact that changing rooms or toilets are mixed sex. The problem with all of this fucking virtue signalling is that it's taking away women's rights with no option for us to be heard. Leafletting/stickering might have more effect than emails or complaints that just go in the bin.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/06/2019 10:58

Good post Carol

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/06/2019 10:59

Just looked at their twitter page. No mention if loos but someone is playing Virtue Bingo by the looks of it.

I just want to eat my noodles in peace without necessarily saving the world thank you very much. Won’t be going there now. Preachy fuckers.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/06/2019 11:01

Horse, do you seriously need to ask that?

Treefloof · 01/06/2019 11:13

Then what - what will be the next ‘inclusion’?
I think we can all guess where this is heading. MAPs will be the next inclusion.

Outanabout · 01/06/2019 11:20

What's MAPS?

LangCleg · 01/06/2019 11:24

I'm thinking of creating a leaflet warning women of the risk of hidden cameras

Bloody good idea. We can paste them to the doors in all the mixed sex toilets companies keep installing.

These toilets sound fine.

Not if they facilitate the increasingly common crime of camera voyeurism, they aren't.

LangCleg · 01/06/2019 11:25

What's MAPS?

MAP is what the paedophiles have been euphemistically calling themselves. Minor Attracted Person.
