Phoned up Dudley gyms as had sudden urge to get fit without a long contract.
“Yes, yes, the changing areas are sex separated”
“can men who say they are women use the female changing areas”
“its discriminatory not to allow this” “even if the Equality Act says it is acceptable to separate in changing areas”
“its discriminatory not to allow them in”
“even though they probably still have penises”
“its discriminatory not to allow this”
“what about discriminating against women and girls?”
“...”

So you are prepared to go without a gym membership just in case you had to be in the same room as a trans person?

It's not them being trans that is the problem.

It's them being male.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/05/2019 13:05

Single sex changing rooms should be exactly that. They're supposed to discriminate, in sense 2 of the word 'recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another.'.

teawamutu · 06/05/2019 13:17

I've emailed my local gym twice asking about their policy. No reply. Would next step be ccing my mp?

VeronicaDinner · 06/05/2019 13:29

It's not misogynistic at all. What would you like me to say - I'm sure everyone in there will be desperate to have a big old perve over you? No they wouldn't. People go to the gym to get fit, not as an excuse to wave their genitals around in the changing rooms or try to cop an eyeful of other people's bodies. And it's absolutely sexist on your part that you think anyone, male or female, is that deranged.

Just grow up and go to the gym. The chances are if you did see a trans person, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.

Sexist to think that men don't enjoy waving their genitals around???

Good god. I've heard it all now. We're not only transphobic, we are sexist because male violence simply does not happen.

You clearly are not female. The first time a man waved his genitals around at me, for no reason other than he enjoyed it, I was 8 years old.

Men are led by their genitals, and they are getting worse because everything in British culture is encouraging it.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 06/05/2019 13:34

And porn doesn't exist I suppose. Nor are female bodies ever used in advertising. Prostitution is not overwhelmingly servicing men.

Black is white, and the world is not round. The sun is not in the sky. Men are women and the sun is cold and Pluto is hot.

No, I am female actually. But how absolutely typical of you to crack out your unnecessary prejudice.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 06/05/2019 13:36

You haven't a clue.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 06/05/2019 13:37

You’re really being vile and yes, misogynistic. It’s pretty much right out of MRA handbook to make remarks about a woman’s body like that.

AND WE CAN TELL! We’re not fucking stupid, every person I know can identify very easily a naked male body from a female body.

Babdoc · 06/05/2019 13:40

VeronicaDinner, a 10 year old girl has already been sexually assaulted by a transgender intact male in a women’s toilet in Scotland. Stop trying to pretend it never happens. Women prisoners have also been sexually assaulted by transgender rapist Karen White in the communal prison showers.
Women are absolutely entitled to have their privacy, safety and dignity respected in their gym changing rooms.

VeronicaDinner · 06/05/2019 13:40

No, you can't tell. That's the trouble with living in your paranoid imagination. I have a friend who is trans, who I have seen in only her knickers, who I only know was trans because she told me.

And all men are not sex crazed rapists! The cheek of coming out with something like that and calling me misogynistic! You're off the chart sexist.

AlwaysComingHome · 06/05/2019 13:41

Oh sorry, does that not fit in with your mental image of some six foot five skulking rapist with their dick hanging out of their trousers in a poorly fitting wig, prowling around the ladies gym while breathing heavily and cracking their knuckles

Just give me one good reason why a man needs to show his penis to complete strangers in a public place.

Just one.

NAMALT. I call Bingo.

So do porn and prostitution, or sex in advertising, not exist either in your fantasy world? I'm mildly curious about how you arrived at the idea that men are not interested in sex.

AlwaysComingHome · 06/05/2019 13:44

And all men are not sex crazed rapists!

If only there was a standard response to that.

#NotAllMen

VeronicaDinner · 06/05/2019 13:46

How on earth does men being interested in sex - and PS so am I and I'm a woman, talk about misogyny! - equate to them being uncontrollable maniacs?

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 06/05/2019 13:47

I would ask to see their Equality Impact Assessment. I would assume that Dudley has a high population of Muslim women who need to know that single sex means single sex.

donajimena · 06/05/2019 13:48

veronica is your mind so open that your brain has fallen out? (Yes, I pinched this line Grin)
I don't really give a toss who wears what, calls themselves what, but I don't want male bodied people in my female spaces.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 06/05/2019 13:49

Ok that's a start. Now will you admit that some men will force sex on women, and even among those that don't, they enjoy being potentially able to force it? And that they will go out of their way to satisfy either of those urges, for either actual sex or intimidation?

You mean, will I stop going to the gym in case a trans person goes off their beans and rapes me in the changing rooms? No, absolutely not and I think the idea of doing so is ludicrous.

edgeofheaven · 06/05/2019 13:52

VeronicaDinner as I understand it the concern is not genuine trans people but men who claim to identify as female, having had no hormone therapy or surgery, entering women's toilets and changing rooms as an opportunity to prey on victims.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 06/05/2019 13:53

i think ignoring women’s boundaries and discomfort around Male bodied people in female spaces is misogynistic and vile.
