I have just seen this on the www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a3518988-Rachel-McKinnon-weightlifter-and-Abigail-Shrier#prettyPhoto thread posted by Clitherow and felt it needed a separate mention. If I was on twitter I'd follow him!

Don't know if this link has come through - never done this before, but rapper Zuby breaks British women's deadlifting record (whatever that is - sport not my thing) whilst identifying as a woman - pisses off Rachel Mckinnon and gains 2500 followers in 24 hours

Litereally meh, they are on the wrong side of history. They'll be deleting history like mad in a few months time I reckon.

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/02/2019 19:01

Ahahahhh. Oh this made me smile. Sometimes I think we are all going to hell in a handcart then I see young people like Zuby and Angelos and I think we might just have a chance after all.

Intelligence, humour, satire and the British lack of truck with bullshit will defeat this. 💪

Zuby, I bought your stuff on Apple.

Don't spend the penny all in one place now.

Zuby isn't a feminist because he thinks that women in the Western world are all liberated, and also that feminism has bad PR

Sounds like me in my early 20s, so I'll cut him some slack on that one. Plus, men don't get to say when feminism is or is not needed, even if they identify as women some or all of the time Smile

Blueblueyellow · 28/02/2019 22:16

BettyDuMonde
Waitrose will be full of middle aged women in Zuby t shirts soon
Grin Just peed a little, didn't do enough of those damn pelvic floor exercises.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 28/02/2019 22:25

Zuby is braver than Milwall FC Grin

BelleHathor · 28/02/2019 22:44

More (lady) balls than Millwall 😂😂

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2019 23:22

He's not wrong about feminism having bad PR.
Being a bright guy, he might be able to figure out why that is...

Uptheapplesandpears · 01/03/2019 07:38

Yes, I saw that too olenna. And was impressed at the total lack of self-awareness. He's also 32 apparently, so old enough to no longer be that ignorant.

Still, can't have everything I suppose. Maybe he's been too busy being brave and stunning!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 01/03/2019 07:48

he's 32?

amount of slack being cut reduced

TowelNumber42 · 01/03/2019 07:52

I can forgive the western women don't need feminism thing because I felt that way too until I had children. Then the patriarchy suddenly became real despite me being privileged, professional, confident, married to a nice man. I then also started seeing the "microaggressions" I'd been subject to previously and younger women were now being subject to and realised I'd had scales on my eyes before. It'd be hard for a man to see it.

I bet plenty of white people think black people are equal in the West now so there's no need for special action.

Outsiders will always find it hard to see, even when they identify in.

Brave and stunning. Should be sportswoman of the year and Navratilova should hand him the prize on stage.

TowelNumber42 · 01/03/2019 07:57

It just occured to me that lots of men go on testosterone blockers for non-trans medical reasons. There must be many who are/were athletically gifted.

I would like to see some of them go out in their long term low testosterone bodies and beat the powerlift or tennis serve speed or 400m womens records. We know they could. I'd give money to the charity of their choice.

I bet they object to the trans-athlete line that testosterone blockers make you run like a girl.

BigGreenOlives · 01/03/2019 08:09

Do you go on blockers when you’ve had prostate cancer? Or for treatment for prostate cancer? I wonder if there are any big ex rugby players who could step up to the plate? Tell us they are dainty things now.

BettyDuMonde · 01/03/2019 08:14

I really hope a women’s right’s activist does go on his podcast. Zuby now has about 6,000 feminist followers so it’s time Zuby got radicalised.

I also thought feminism had been successful in the West. I didn’t notice any of the barriers the patriarchy had built for me until I was pregnant.
Then I smacked into them, hard.
Like a sparrow flying into a patio door.
Been trying to learn to fly again ever since. 19 years and counting.

Anlaf · 01/03/2019 08:25

I quite often meet youngish ok my age bright men who think feminism is no longer required and are minded to think feminists are flaky loons.

I think the feminism they've had amplified to them is the woke, thought-policing, speech stopping with suspiciously many bearded be-penised proponents sort.

Generally these lads are good to talk to about women's rights stuff, because they are happy to think. And comfortable hearing dissenting ideas.

As you say, as a woman, Zubes will soon have real life experiences to demonstrate the need for feminism.

WindsfromtheNE · 01/03/2019 08:25

This has made my day. Thank you Zuby.

FemalePersonator · 01/03/2019 08:59

No criticism from me, Zuby. I think you are fantastic. Keep up the good work.

Charley50 · 01/03/2019 09:07

Go Zuby!

ToeToToe · 01/03/2019 09:52

I can forgive the western women don't need feminism thing because I felt that way too until I had children.

Same here actually. I've always had very feminist principles, but I was at University in the early 90s - I was young, and having fun, at a Uni where at least 50% places went to women - the culture of girl power and ladettes, was just beginning - women in pubs drinking pints and being equal to the men.

I benefitted from the hard work of second wave feminism - and I took those hard-won rights for granted. I began to see things a little differently when I had children - I saw that sexism was still alive and well!

All I can see now is women's rights, women's opportunity - even the definition of the word 'woman' being chipped away at by trans-activism. It's regressive and damaging - and as Joan McAlpine just said - is taking us back to the sex stereotypes of the 1950s, which the second wave feminists fought so hard to get away from.

Lamaha · 01/03/2019 09:56

I can forgive the western women don't need feminism thing because I felt that way too until I had children. Then the patriarchy suddenly became real despite me being privileged, professional, confident, married to a nice man. I then also started seeing the "microaggressions" I'd been subject to previously and younger women were now being subject to and realised I'd had scales on my eyes before. It'd be hard for a man to see it.

Exactly. I was born to a feminist activist in 1951 I was practically bottle-fed feminism, grew up in a time when women REALLY had it hard could not work if they were married, etc etc. My mother was ground breaking in our country and very outspoken, an icon. I've also lived in third world countries where women really are at the bottom of the heap.
So I have been very meh about today's young white Western feminists going on about things that seem so very minor to me, in comparison.
I was confident enough to be a SAHM and brave the insults of some feminists who thought my mind would go rusty and I'd go mad with boredom: it didn't and I didn't. I still managed to be an independent woman with quite a thriving career as a writer.

I had the feeling that feminism today meant emulating men; accepting male values such as money and prestige and career success being worth more than human values such as love and compassion and caring for others. So I had a lot of trouble accepting the word feminism wholesale, as it seemed to be all about being more male than men. I grew up in a leftist family. My dad was an out and out Marxist. I always voted for left parties.

But the whole gender identity thing ripped scales from my eyes. To me it is a trojan horse through which men are once again trying to take over -- by stealth. I cannot believe that women who call themselves feminists accept things like changing birth certificates and TWAW,
My mother would turn in her grave. Now, at going on 68, I'm getting ready to follow in her footsteps.

And I do understand why some men think feminism has lost the plot. Considering how so many US feminists (Hilary Clinton and all the female Dem presidential candidates!) accept this crap wholesale: it has.

Lamaha · 01/03/2019 10:01

An example: I got really, really annoyed with Emma Watson, a privileged famous white actress, putting herself next to Malala Yousafzai. Saying something like Hurray! Malala is a feminist! As if the word itself was worth more than getting shot in the head and almost dying because of your work for women's education. I wanted to shout, shut up Emma, you know NOTHING! As if Malala saying she is a feminist suddenly gave her stature.
