Just seen this on Twitter.

twitter.com/ruth_hunt/status/1098604129394585601?s=21

I’d like to think her successor will be less homophobic. We shall see, although I’m not holding out much hope.

Wow, RO. I hadn't seen that tweet. I wonder if Dr W's willingness to take part in the Panorama programme was because it was on the BBC and the assumption was that it would be sympathetic to the cause.

R0wantrees · 27/02/2019 13:23

I think the response from representatives of Stonewall, Mermaids and Maria Miller MP are the key ones requiring scrutiny.

They all have specific responsibilities.

R0wantrees · 27/02/2019 13:25

If Tavistock professionals are challenging their own service's response and highlighting Safeguarding issues with regards failure to fully understand children's complex needs I doubt Dr Webberley's continued affirmation only approach will be permitted by GMC.

TimeLady · 27/02/2019 13:30

That twitter thread from Olly Lambert is a really important read.

Thank you for posting it in full, R0

CharlesChickens · 28/02/2019 10:23

Bloody hell that twitter thread , I hadn’t seen that. I agree with above “ IT IS A FAILURE OF DUTY OF CARE, AND HAS MASSIVE IMPLICATIONS FOR SAFEGUARDING, CHILD PROTECTION AND CHARITY GOVERNANCE “ .
I am still shocked almost daily, at how powerful this homophobic, misogynistic and deeply concerning agenda has become. The way people are so quick to latch on to Transactivism and see it as a good thing, on a par with gay rights, the lack of thought by politicians, the way the left in particular have so swiftly thrown women’s rights under a bus.

Needmoresleep · 28/02/2019 10:28

Olly Lambert's rather cryptic quote for the day:

"Quote for the day: He who fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. For when you look long into the abyss, the abyss looks long into you."

Needmoresleep · 28/02/2019 10:41

I also like "Come for the thread. Stay for the replies."

The replies perhaps illustrate why so many people refused to appear on the programme. I am not sure the TRA posters on this Twitter thread come across very well. Pile ons to thoughtful posts by respected documentary producers, or indeed Martina Navratilova, with plenty of followers, will presumably only help spread the word that there is something very wrong. Thank you Ollie Lambert for joining others with their heads above the parapet.

Prominant trans activists, many LGBT+ organisations and charities have emboldened individuals on twitter to take such extreme positions towards anyone who does not fully capitulate to trans ideology.

Media and Social Media platforms have enabled both the continuing censorship and smearing of those raising serious concerns for Safeguarding, Women's Rights, fair process whilst publishing & promoting unquestioningly the propaganda of transactivism.

Politicians have been derelict in their duties.

James Kirkup July 2018 twitter thread:

"Some facts about the events that preceded the Government statement here that the coming consultation on the Gender Recognition Act will be narrowly drawn and not affect the Equality Act’s single sex exemptions.

I offer these facts because some are claiming “there was never any question of removing/amending EA exceptions.” Those claims are either mistaken or dishonest.

August 2015
Stonewall submission to the Women & Equalities Select Committee says MPs should amend the EA to
“remove exemptions, such as access to single-sex spaces”

Women and Equalities Select Committee Inquiry on Transgender Equality
We have submitted evidence to the Women and Equalities Select Committee on Transgender Equality. Our submission was based on the views we listened to and heard during our consultation with more than …
www.stonewall.org.uk/women-and-equalities-select-committee-inquiry-transgender-equality

Jan 2016
Women & Equalities Committee says EA should be amended so that

“occupational requirements provision and / or the single-sex / separate services provision shall not apply”.

July 2016
Govt response to W&E Committee says: “we agree with the principle of this recommendation” on EA exemptions and seeks evidence for “future policy discussions”

July 2017
Govt promises GRA reform “ as part of a broad consultation of the legal system that underpins gender transition.”

New Action to Promote LGBT Equality
The Government announces new proposals to streamline and de-medicalise the process for changing gender and launches a nationwide LGBT survey
www.gov.uk/government/news/new-action-to-promote-lgbt-equality
July 2017
Stonewall commits to “advocate for the removal” of EA provisions allowing sex-based discrimination.

June 2018
Govt says:

“We are clear that we have no intention of amending the Equality Act 2010, the legislation that allows for single sex spaces.”

In sum: MPs and others told govt to amend/remove Equality Act single-sex exemptions. Govt considered doing so. Then govt ruled it out. / ends"

Hallelujah. I can’t see that being the end of it though.

Sarahconnor1 · 28/02/2019 19:46

That Michael cashman Twitter upthread is enlightening. Either micheal has no idea what stonewall and others are lobbying for in relation to the EA or he is a liar. Eitherway it's a very bad look for a man (and Labour peer) who has been critising women for standing up for women's rights, criticism that now appears to have been based on Michael being woefully ill informed.

Many moons ago I had some respect for him.

R0wantrees · 28/02/2019 19:53

Michael Cashman has been closely guided and influenced by some TRAs who are also connected with Stonewall.

He's been receiving misinformation and seems to perhaps have some strong confirmation bias with regards feminists/women (?)

As a founder of Stonewall and Lord who has decided to make public announcements its foolish not to have taken time to check some facts.

Melroses · 28/02/2019 19:57

Does he never look at the website of the organisation he founded, read their submissions to govt committees or talk to his fellow co-founder?

Not a good look on a Peer.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 28/02/2019 19:58

its foolish not to have taken time to check some facts.

But now he has the excuse of ignorance.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 28/02/2019 20:02

excuse?
That spelling doesn't look right...

R0wantrees · 28/02/2019 20:11

Hopefully Michael Cashman isn't advising Dawn Butler and other MPs with regards Stonewall & women's single sex exemptions

Mind it could be Munroe Bergdorf, Linda Riley or the Grafs...

At least he has been caught in the act of lying.

R0wantrees · 28/02/2019 20:36

Perhaps he'll reconsider some of his other untrue allegations, statements and smears. I hope so.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 28/02/2019 20:37

I very much doubt it, I don't think for one second he's "misinformed".

Lumene · 28/02/2019 21:43

Don’t you Captain? What do you think is behind his stance?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 28/02/2019 21:50

I think it's a deliberate move, I think serveral people in power are trying, and succeeding in oppressing certain members of society.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 02/03/2019 17:32

I was thinking about the timeline of all this:
Feb 2015 - Stonewall announce that they are now LBGT as opposed to LBG

Aug 2015 - they submit evidence to the Women's and Equalities Committee to get rid of single sex exemptions

So, given that there's a conflict between the 'L' and the 'T' re 2010 Equalities Act single Dec provisions, it took less than 6 months for Stonewall to sell out the 'L' in favour of the 'T'

It's astounding that a new interest group came to dominate the agenda in such a short space of time.

LucyGCmum · 02/03/2019 19:41

Can anyone point me in the direction of a gender critical chat (with special interest in impact of social media on trans identified teenagers?) Id be most grateful as I'm not entirely sure how mumsnet works yet.
