This whole hate speech/incident law is completely out of control. This is sinister.

I've had a number of conversations with sincere but frustratingly ill-informed police officers over the past two days.

They all believe that transphobia kills and is responsible for epidemic levels of suicides and violent assaults. They truly, truly believe the propaganda and think they are doing a vital job in preventing more deaths.

This myth lies at the heart of why politicians, public servants, parents and charities like Children in Need, give trans lobbyists the time of day. I think that the Parliamentary Committee on Trans Equality has a responsibility to check and corroborate the lies that they accepted uncritically.

ProfessoressWoland · 27/01/2019 11:11

That's depressing, Pam.
Not only do they believe that, they are allowing their hysteria to impact policing.

Bluestitch · 27/01/2019 11:18

The PC involved delivers hate crime training to college students. I wonder if he is telling them about the pink/ blue brain stuff.

I just started a thread on this in AIBU. Hopefully, it will peak trans a few people.

Imnobody4 · 27/01/2019 11:20

Pam I'm bewildered, how can they swallow this when they still treat actual violence against women as an exaggeration.

"Dear Police, when you make vaguely threatening statements that imply that you intend to punish people for not actually breaking the law, this causes concern among the public. Some may be wondering if, in the absence of an actual crime he can convict people of, PC Gul is intending to deposit a horse's head on their pillow while they're asleep. Please explain how you intend to address these concerns and restore public confidence that the police force are aware that they too are bound by laws and can't just go around punishing people for saying thing they don't like."

ProfessoressWoland · 27/01/2019 11:28

It's a good question. The only explanation is deep-rooted misogyny. I'm not being flippant - I just can't see any other reason.

The focus should be on who is training the police.

Just as focus should continue to be on those groups, charities, organisations and individuals who are training teachers, prison staff, social workers, NHS professionals etc.

December 22 2018 Janice Turner, Times article:
'Trans ideologists are spreading cod science'
(extract)
'Are you a Princess Barbie jelly-baby who likes frilly dresses, high heels and takes ages to get ready? Or a GI Joe jelly-baby who wears boots and functional clothing? Did you know that your preference for pink sparkles or muddy sports isn’t down to societal expectations of boys and girls. No, it’s written in your chromosomes. And that’s science.

Well, science according to Mermaids, the charity for trans children, in a presentation understood to be given to thousands of teachers, health workers, police and politicians, and part-funded by the Department for Education.

I listened to a recording of this bizarre 90-minute training lecture and wish others could too. Particularly those who pride themselves on rationality and evidence-based thinking: atheists, fans of Richard Dawkins and Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science; those incensed by climate change deniers on TV or creationists in schools; the same people who are tweeting #istandwithmermaids because the Big Lottery Fund is reviewing, in the light of an outcry, its decision to award them a £500,000 grant.

On tape the Mermaids trainer tells us that humans don’t come in two sexes, male and female, sperm and ovum: “Most people still think that way,” she says airily. “But what we know now, thanks to advances in science, is that the human race has up to 42 different sets of chromosomes.”

Biological sex is on a spectrum, she says, like skin tone and (seriously) bra size. A person’s “gender identity jelly baby” has nothing to do with how we are raised: it is inside you at birth. You know you are a man because you walk like a man and like “manly” things. A listener questions why this lecture is based upon stereotypes and is told “you’re going too clever”. (continues)

I'm not surprised.

Many sincere ill informed people have been convinced.
They are acting in good faith.

The sunlight needs to shone on the sources of the propaganda.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2019 12:21

Yep. As amusing as it is to take the piss out of the overenthusiastic PC Gul, someone taught him this bollocks, and that's who's responsible for his belief that the UK is now prosecuting its citizens for thoughcrime.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2019 12:21

Or thought, even.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 27/01/2019 12:27

Lovely photo
I noticed the BBC nicely cropped the photo to just "man".

This gives me The Rage Angry

Ricky Gervais retweeted the James Kirkup article.

And then said:

"If registering a complaint about having your feelings hurt by a daft poet on Twitter ISN'T wasting police time, then let the games begin."

Comments are all Team Harry.

Oxytocindeficient · 27/01/2019 13:23

He deleted it

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 27/01/2019 13:24

They be dipping their toes in.

Needmoresleep · 27/01/2019 13:25

Another recent Ricky Gervais tweet says:

“I'm an old fashioned liberal lefty, champagne socialist type of guy. A pro-equality, opportunity-for-all, welfare state snowflake. But, if I ever defend freedom of speech on here, I'm suddenly an alt right nazi. How did that happen?”

Given how much of his career is in the US, I wonder what is going on.

2019Dancerz · 27/01/2019 13:27

I can’t find that tweet, is it gone or am I doing something wrong?

Oxytocindeficient · 27/01/2019 13:30

He removed it. Ricky Gervais removed it. The guy who had a go at Kevin Hart, any comedian, for apologising. Oh Ricky. You hypocrite.

Popchyk · 27/01/2019 13:35

Christ. It was there a minute ago.

It was a very mild tweet and the responses were perfectly reasonable.

Wonder why he decided to delete? He doesn't normally give a fuck.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 27/01/2019 13:37

He's a coward basically.
