This whole hate speech/incident law is completely out of control. This is sinister.

Look like the games have already begun, eh Ricky?

Juells · 27/01/2019 13:40

How do you know he deleted it himself? Can you tell the difference if it was deleted by Twitter? Asking because I don't know...

Oxytocindeficient · 27/01/2019 13:49

Yes you can I believe. It should say it was removed. This just said the link doesn’t exist. I also think he would of said if it was removed.

2019Dancerz · 27/01/2019 13:49

Anyone with a twitter account up for asking him?

Needmoresleep · 27/01/2019 13:50

My best guess is that one of his US ‘employers’ has reminded him of social media clauses in his contract.

Retweeting an article about free speech from a respectable publication would presumably contravene any such clause....

Oxytocindeficient · 27/01/2019 13:51

Checked. Since October last year, they announced it would say if a tweet was removed for violating twitter guidelines. So no, he actually removed it

Popchyk · 27/01/2019 13:54

Strange though. Cos he has posted more controversial stuff than that.

He posted a fair bit about Karen White, male transgender person who sexually assaulted women in a women's prison. And Rachel McKinnon, male transgender person who won the women's cycling gold medal. He hasn't deleted any of those.

Flooffloof · 27/01/2019 13:55

They all believe that transphobia kills and is responsible for epidemic levels of suicides and violent assaults

But the ONS numbers don't bear that out.
Children committing suicide has stayed at roughly 200 per year for the last eon.
Off hand I can't remember what is classed as a child. I.e under 16/18/21
And adult men's suicide rate is broadly the same from year to year and i don't remember the stats. I will look when my cake is done tho.

hikikomore · 27/01/2019 13:58

Maybe it was the 'let the games begin' bit that he removed it for - could be construed as inciting people to waste police time?

Flooffloof · 27/01/2019 13:58

Main points

In 2017 there were 5,821 suicides registered in the UK, an age-standardised rate of 10.1 deaths per 100,000 population.

The UK male suicide rate of 15.5 deaths per 100,000 was the lowest since our time-series began in 1981; for females, the UK rate was 4.9 deaths per 100,000, this remains consistent with the rates seen in the last 10 years.

Males accounted for three-quarters of suicides registered in 2017 (4,382 deaths), which has been the case since the mid-1990s

The highest age-specific suicide rate was 24.8 deaths per 100,000 among males aged 45 to 49 years; for females, the age group with the highest rate was 50 to 54 years, at 6.8 deaths per 100,000.

Directly from ONS.

Popchyk · 27/01/2019 14:02

There were two Tweets from Gervais.

One Tweet linking to the James Kirkup article, which had about 100 comments on it.

Then another Tweet by RG saying "If registering a complaint about having your feelings hurt by a daft poet on Twitter ISN'T wasting police time, then let the games begin." That had a few hundred comments.

He has deleted both.

Oxytocindeficient · 27/01/2019 14:06

Well I’m disappointed in Ricky.

Bluestitch · 27/01/2019 14:23

Why has he deleted them? TRAs are completely ignoring this story because it isn't favourable to them and has spread beyond the usual people involved in this debate. So I doubt he would get any grief. He's tweeted about trans issues before anyway.

nauticant · 27/01/2019 14:37

I don't think we benefit from celebs briefly settling on a gender critical position. Their "brand" is their livelihood and this makes them very fickle indeed. Get a gender critical statement today, get a recantation tomorrow, thus giving the gender identity fans a "win" to crow over. All it takes is a smallish volume of "transphobe!" tweets to make them do a 180.

Besides which, in this area many celebs are fuckwits and come out with statements of astonishing self-importance and ignorance.

Datun · 27/01/2019 14:54

No idea why Gervais deleted his tweets. But I don't think he's cowed. His partner is fairly gender critical, isn't she?

Katispancuddly · 27/01/2019 17:16

Harry the owl you get to drink Gin with the ruinous mothers.

I'm frankly upset and fuming that the pathetic little copper is spouting shit about pink/ blue brains. Sexist prick.

SmallButFierce · 27/01/2019 17:33

You wouldn’t think Humberside Police were seriously understaffed, would you? Luckily most PCs I know recognise this for the bollocks it is! Sadly they can’t actually say so publicly as that would be a disciplinary offence.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 27/01/2019 17:48

I notice that Gul says that three groups (LGBQT, ethnic minorities and the disabled) face hate crimes but addressed only the first two groups. Plus, he didn't mention that sex is a protected characteristic and that women are the victims of hate crime..

Fuck off, Gul, and take your Sensitive New Age Dude Bro bullshit with you.

SmallButFierce · 27/01/2019 17:53

I find the concept of hate crimes irritating anyway - it should be an aggravating factor not a crime in itself. And that’s how most police I know view it too. It’s all part of the identity politics bollocks that trans activism seems to have sprung from.

Bluestitch · 27/01/2019 18:21

This twitter feed is one of the best I've seen.

Oxytocindeficient · 27/01/2019 18:28

That is absolutely hilarious blue Grin

Katispancuddly · 27/01/2019 18:30

Oh GrinGrinGrin

Bluestitch · 27/01/2019 18:32

It's brilliant. It also shows though that the police can't just behave in any way they like without consequence. They rely on a relationship with the public, destroy public trust and nobody will help you with your enquiries.

NotTerfNorCis · 27/01/2019 18:35

I know for a fact the one on the left, Ricky, identifies as a sardine.

That actually made me laugh out loud.

boatyardblues · 27/01/2019 18:44

Great to see that tide of limericks has not abated. Some very funny tweets on that thread.
