This whole hate speech/incident law is completely out of control. This is sinister.

Apologies - it's coming up, but not been on yet.

Melroses · 25/01/2019 14:00

Ah good -thought I had missed it.

Sexnotgender · 25/01/2019 14:02

TRAs still not understanding the Streisand Effect. It was the same with Posie's poster. Go Harry!

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that TRAs are not exactly towering intellects. The amount of shit that they do where I think how on earth do you think that will help your cause is staggering.

Look at McKinnon and Harrop! All they do is peak more and more people. I’m sure they must both be feminist plants.

Bluestitch · 25/01/2019 14:06

I did go through a stage of thinking Harrop was a parody until I saw him on Sky News and realised he was a real person. I still think LM is trolling.

Sexnotgender · 25/01/2019 14:13

Unfortunately Haddock is deadly serious. It’s a little scary...

Fishywishyhead · 25/01/2019 14:35

I can’t believe how much has changed at the force in the decade since I moved away. They were so hopelessly unwoke when I worked there that a colleague who sexually pursued a teenager continued unpunished. I wonder how much is a result of the Huntley effect?

R0wantrees · 25/01/2019 14:37

from The Hull Daily Mail linked previously:
(extract)
"The incident has sparked his Twitter supporters to write a string of limericks and even the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, Keith Hunter, has got involved.

A Pauline M Barten wrote: "If you want to fill your arrest sheet, and no go out on the beat, make limericks a crime, spending your time, collaring folk for a tweet."

Keith Hunter said: "The force has provided an explanation. I think it was a reasonably proportionate response to a report, following national guidance on such issues. U r of course permitted to disagree."

Wiki

"Keith Hunter is a former English police officer and politician, and the current Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, representing the Labour Party. He was elected to the post on 5 May 2016, succeeding the previous incumbent, Matthew Grove. Hunter spent thirty years with Humberside Police, rising to the rank of Chief Superintendent, where he was divisional commander at Kingston upon Hull. He retired in 2011, but caused controversy prior to his departure after a series of interviews he gave to the Hull Daily Mail in which he was critical of government budget cuts to the police, describing them as the "perfect storm" for rising crime. He sought the Labour candidacy at the 2012 police and crime commissioner elections, but was defeated by former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott."

littlbrowndog · 25/01/2019 14:40

Oh goody the polis giving us permission to disagree

Permission

Melroses · 25/01/2019 14:41

ETA 2.45pm on Talk with Matthew Wright

R0wantrees · 25/01/2019 14:44

So 'we' can disagree with the national guidance?
This is getting curiouser and curiouser.

Humberside police and the Police Commissioner will end up having to defend their beliefs or protocols that see this as 'proportionate'

MrsSnippyPants · 25/01/2019 14:46

Just trailed it, on after this ad break......

PencilsInSpace · 25/01/2019 14:47

There was another Humberside officer who received an MBE in the 2014 new years honours list. PC Sharon Houfe, a community cohesion officer, won the award for her work with LGBT groups and for tackling hate crime.

Houfe very sadly took her own life in 2016. The inquest concluded on 18 December 2018 and the coroner found there had been major failings by Humber NHS trust.

I don't know if this is relevant at all. It just struck me that the inquest was incredibly recent and her colleagues are probably feeling all sorts of anger and grief just now.

Condolences to PC Houfe's family, friends and colleagues Flowers

Recent research is making it clearer than ever that the notion that sex determines the fundamentals of brain structure and behavior is a misconception.'

Brilliant Harry, just brilliant!! Wine Flowers Cake

Bluestitch · 25/01/2019 15:02

He was great, so clear and got so much in. Very witty and will appeal to the average person on the street too. Love that MW kept playing Brain Police!

GerryblewuptheER · 25/01/2019 15:02

Nice one!!!

Thanks Harry

Datun · 25/01/2019 15:05

Harry knows. He knows the lot.

Apparently the police officer said something like (I'm paraphrasing) it's not very nice for a marginalised community to see someone liking a limerick and that it's hurtful about their trans status.

Well how about it fucking hurting women to say the definition of a woman is a feeling in a man's head, or a man wearing a dress!!! Or women can put up with a convicted rapist in a situation where they can't escape, because mens feelings.

It's beyond insulting. It's a disgusting justification.

The only reason someone would have even thought of saying your vagina goes nowhere and you've got silicon breasts is because they would have been told that silicon breasts and an inverted penis means they are a biological woman.

This lie that women are going around deliberately saying nasty stuff to poor, vulnerable men is ridiculous.

Bluestitch · 25/01/2019 15:08

I love that he pointed out women who are threatened don't get such service from the police.

R0wantrees · 25/01/2019 15:08

I don't know if this is relevant at all. It just struck me that the inquest was incredibly recent and her colleagues are probably feeling all sorts of anger and grief just now.

The extent of the failings in the care of PC Sharon Houfe are shocking as evidenced by the coroner's conclusions. Those who were close to her to will have been and will continue to be deeply impacted.

Melroses · 25/01/2019 15:09

Harry did well - must have been a long wait!

Lots of photos of him in his t-shirt.

R0wantrees · 25/01/2019 15:13

This lie that women are going around deliberately saying nasty stuff to poor, vulnerable men is ridiculous.

The lies, smears, threats and accusations against women by TRAs are not seen (yet).

Many male transpeople and allies continue to manipulate those with influence.
