Gamer raises $100,000 (and rising) for trans charity Mermaids by playing Donkey Kong non-stop

"Tens of thousands of pounds has been raised for transgender charity Mermaids, thanks to a Twitch streamer playing Donkey Kong 64 for an entire day.

HBomberGuy (Harry Brewis), a popular UK-based content creator who has more than 300,000 subscribers on YouTube, came up with an unlikely way to raise money for the embattled transgender children’s charity, which recently had part of its lottery funding suspended after a campaign from anti-trans activists."

Hairplugs said WHAT?!

They already tried bothering advertisers, didn't they? Clearly didn't work either.

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/01/2019 21:46

70p in the pound of household spending is controlled by women.

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/01/2019 21:49

Jeez that tweet of Jessops retweeting Paris lees 🤦🏻‍♀️

Trans kids are normal. It’s YOU who tells them they’re in the wrong body. GC feminists tell them they’re just fine as they are and maybe society has an issue with gender stereotypes.

September 2018 James Kirkup spectator article on 'the transgender thought police'

'How Caroline Lucas fell foul of the transgender thought police'
(extract)
"But of course, in the looking-glass world of transgender politics, this is not OK to talk to people who might take a different view of the world to your own. It is bad, and must be punished.

Never mind that Lucas had been an outspoken advocate of trans rights in general, and of Aimee Challenor in particular. Never mind that all she said she would do is meet some people and listen to them. None of that could mitigate her sins against transgenderism. The online mob quickly gathered to ensure Lucas was suitably chastised: she said she’d talk to witches, so she must be a witch! Burn her!

(As is common here, lots of the abuse directed at Lucas came from men keen to tell women what to do, say and think. My favourite reprimand was this one: “Sincere word of warning Caroline: the people you’re agreeing to have dialogue w/ may appear to be reasonable & well-meaning individuals – couldn’t be more untrue. #WPUK and its associates spread hateful rhetoric, & seek to deny #trans people their existing legal rights. Avoid.” That came from a person using the name Adrian Harrop and claiming to be an NHS doctor; I assume it’s a parody account because the alternative explanation – that an actual real person is so comically stupid and awful – is too troubling to contemplate.)" Women are responsible for 80% of all consumer purchases - 0.2% v (80% of 52%gen pop)

The maths says it all and the advertisers know it.

It should be us deciding where we’ll place our collective pounds and dollars, and not with those who demonise, belittle and discount women/ who put women in harms way by ignoring international sex based law and who put trans rights ahead of women’s rights - instead of having an informed debate and consultation about competing rights and legitimate concerns about compromising safeguarding of women and children.

Let battle commence

I know who I would bet on....

goodthinking99 · 21/01/2019 21:56

Why can those on twitter not get thawer in number discussing things in a fairly reasonable fashion precisely because this is one of the only places on line that you can say 'hang on a minute...has anyone considered the unintended (ok, ok, I'm being generous) consequences on women, girls and children?'. And I say this as a long time leftie MNer who came for advice on a colicky baby and stayed for the humour and sharp thinking. I can't believe I'm alone in this.

oh, now they're musing about going after the advertisers

Again?

April 2018 Times
'Mumsnet founder Justine Roberts: Transgender activists try to curb free speech on site'

(extract)
"The founder of Mumsnet says transgender “thought police” are pressurising advertisers to withdraw from Britain’s most popular parenting website because it allows the discussion of trans topics.

Justine Roberts said she had been approached by three significant advertisers who had been threatened by trans groups.

“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

The website had told the advertisers that it “works hard to keep the discussions civil” and was determined to let them continue.

“What’s worrying to me is the thought-police action around speech and the shutting down of the right to be able to disagree and immediately labelling it as transphobic,” Roberts said. (continues)

I love the logic. ‘Mumsnet! Your users are supporting a site that doxes and targets individuals! Please ‘deal with’ the following named individual posters.’

One day someone will write a thesis on the linguistic and argumental reversal tactics of this lot.

PencilsInSpace · 21/01/2019 22:59

They're a bit obsessed with piss aren't they?

KiwisReallyAreYouSure · 22/01/2019 00:03

As I pointed out before that a trans woman died from self-immolation, and at least one person I think saw it and asked who, here is the link to the news report www.dailydot.com/irl/chloe-sagal-suicide-cyberbullying-harassment/

Apologies though, but I have no desire to become, in the parlance of the alt-right, "one of the good ones". Yeah I'm a trans parent and there's nothing you can do to stop me ;) enjoy your kiwis

QuietContraryMary · 22/01/2019 00:15

I like kiwis in fruit smoothies. Has anyone tried that?

Yeah I'm a trans parent

Kiwis are you aware of the recent issues with discussing J Yaniv on social media and many women and parents' concerns about the risks Yaniv presents?

Kiwifarms was one of the only platforms to allow discussion.
Many from Mumsnet visited the site for this reason.

Miranda Yardley (who is transsexual) called out Yaniv who presents as a serious risk to both women and girls:

QuietContraryMary · 22/01/2019 01:00

I think it's obviously we should blame all suicides by all trans people on kiwi farms. Except when we need to blame them on feminists, or prison rules, or whatever other thing we want to complain about today.

SunsetBeetch · 22/01/2019 02:35

There is WAY more to that tragic story than is in that Daily Dot article. Chloe was clearly a very troubled person, had big fallings out with people in her social circle, obviously severe mental health problems, etc. All sorts going on. It's pretty disgusting to weaponise her suicide like that.

In the KF thread those quotes were pulled from, there are some truly disgusting comments, but also some compassionate ones.

Thanks for your concern, but our little lady brains can cope with getting and evaluating information from all sorts of sources without going over to the dark side. Facts and evidence are neutral, after all.

Kiwis are SO good in smoothies! You don't need to peel them either.

Alexandria O-Cortez tweeting for Mermaids? I sent her an email, but I wonder if some 22 yr old intern will read it.-burn it- ?
For those in twitter: consider educating her on this subject? Thanks

Big time.

If Mermaids really wants to redefine women and bioengineer puberty, that's at least as big a job as building a wall to keep brown skinned Amerindians out of the US MidWest.

AugustL · 22/01/2019 06:30

My thoughts are they think they are doing something good for trans kids and they don't know all the dodgy stuff about this particular charity/lobby group.

Or they are overlooking it, for some reason. I'm not going to pretend to understand people on "twitch" who play video games all day and enjoy watching other people playing video games.

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 22/01/2019 07:45

I'm allergic to kiwis
They make my lips swell up. Cheaper than surgery I guess
