Hasn't long started: guess we'll have to wait and see how it comes out...

I love how up in arms Transactivists get over people who aren't trans playing characters who are, but it's apparently perfectly fine for transwomen and AGPs to enter women's private spaces, so pretending to be someone you aren't in real life is perfectly fine, regardless of the cost to women, but heaven forbid that anyone pretends to be trans for a role in a film or tv show.

VickyEadie · 09/01/2019 12:42

heaven forbid that anyone pretends to be trans for a role in a film or tv show.

They appear to be stunned and shocked at the notion an actor might pretend to be something they're not.

ChesterGreySideboard · 09/01/2019 13:03

But surely once that actor puts a frock on and declares themselves to be a woman then, according to Stonewall, they are trans.

littlbrowndog · 09/01/2019 13:07

Don’t need a frock
You can be anything at any time
Anything

ChesterGreySideboard · 09/01/2019 13:08

Fabulous.
I’m a man. Where is my pay rise?

LangCleg · 09/01/2019 13:30

You can be anything at any time

Can I be Emilia Fox but only for bank account purposes?

SaturdayNext · 09/01/2019 13:37

Judging by Emilia Fox's wardrobe and the occasional glimpse they give of her flat, pathology is an extremely well-paid profession.

littlbrowndog · 09/01/2019 13:38

Of course Lang
Jobs a good un
Just a warning on the programme
There is a lot of vomit and ppl vomiting in it and then ppl delving into the vomit
There was murders but to vomit was just 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

littlbrowndog · 09/01/2019 13:39

That is all I took from the programme

Neverunderfed · 09/01/2019 13:47

Wasn't it meant to look like it was Andrew Knott's character?

InternetRandomer · 09/01/2019 13:56

Yes but of course that means it definitely isn’t.

As an aside it also looks like running a charity phone helpline pays quite well judging by that apartment Hmm

Melroses · 09/01/2019 14:02

Witless Silence is a good name.

One thing’s for sure, we aren’t going to get any trans criminals on TV in the foreseeable future. There’s going to be no Karen White story on the BBC.

samsamsamsamsamsam · 09/01/2019 14:21

It's going to be the woman who was attacked off camera. The woman who was leaving the trans clinic.

Having said that I think there were a few reasonable statements in it.

'You identify as a woman although you have the body and experience of a man?'

' No one knows what anyone else feels, you only feel like you' (implying that woman-ness is more than a feeling)

However- no way will be bbc let the murderer be trans. No way.

waxy1 · 09/01/2019 15:13

“did she get any hate mail?... Far right groups, religious groups, some feminists."

It may not be true that feminists send hate mail, but perhaps it’s realistic that trans-sisters or their friends would say they do.

AspieAndProud · 09/01/2019 15:35

Was it a trans character who said that?

AspieAndProud · 09/01/2019 15:37

Also, I don’t believe that transwomen DO believe that feminists are violent. It‘s just a stick to beat women with.

LangCleg · 09/01/2019 15:50

Well, thanks to the joys of working from home I took an hour and watched episode one. JFC. What a potboiler. Subtle as a friggin' housebrick. What is it about trans topics that brings out the purple prose in screenwriters and journos? Casting off my TERFy witchery for a moment, trans people surely deserve better than this facile Mills & Boon shit. I know it's just a tired old procedural but honestly.

There was a great deal of throwing up in toilets on screen but surely just as much at home with lines like these:

She's my ego, my id, my essence, my spirit.

Jesus wept.

LangCleg · 09/01/2019 15:51

Also, I don’t believe that transwomen DO believe that feminists are violent.

Of course they don't.

waxy1 · 09/01/2019 16:00

Langcleg- Mills and Boon!

Someone’s gonna smother someone’s upturned apple cheeks with manly kisses. Mark my words!

GraceMarks · 09/01/2019 16:16

AspieAndProud no, it was the father of a trans character who had gone missing. It was really jarring and didn't feel at all like the sort of thing such a character would say.

woopdedoodle · 09/01/2019 17:13

Of course the whole show is total fantasy, from Ms Fox's wardrobe to the in depth involvement of the pathologists , it's all bunkum and to be honest I don't know why I watch it , habit I think.

Given that yesterday I heard a story about children who had been raped being let down by the lack of specialists to collect the samples needed to convict their attackers, the teams ability to galumph about every where is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. even if it is all made up.

But for all that,
at the mo my money is on the rather wane character who asks the police if they can tell they are not trans. They have only had about three lines so far, although they could get bumped off tonight.

stumbledin · 09/01/2019 18:03

I am betting that the wife of the military man will be blamed even though he committed the crime. This is because he will say he was devasted by her unwillingness to accept him as a woman and enter a "lesbian" relationship!

Dont forget it is always women's fault even when they actually haven't done anything ...

And the heavy handed we have done the inhouse trans training makes it unbelievable in terms of what is said.

Quote from a review:

the dialogue, concerning as it does the topical issue of trans rights (including use of public toilets), is sometimes a bit too didactic. I can see that this might be necessary in our still unenlightened times, but it is a bit clunky to hear a detective utter a perfectly turned soundbite as if straight from a public health leaflet: “Gender is what you go to bed as; sexuality is who you go to bed with.”

ChesterGreySideboard · 09/01/2019 18:27

Also, I don’t believe that transwomen DO believe that feminists are violent. It‘s just a stick to beat women with.

I think that some transwomen believe it because they have been told it so often and they have heard anecdotal evidence.
