New target: Dr Louise Moody at York University. Deaf, lesbian, gender critical and precariously employed junior academic. She makes an innocuous joke about LM’s announcement on twitter about ‘coming out’ as a lesbian (ie being heterosexual). Cue a swift complaint to York asking for Louise to be fired, insinuating that LM is a student there themselves. Followed by lots of toady support by mainly males asking for this person to be ‘dealt with’. Including a female academic called Dr Jo Grady who uses terf-blocker and thinks it’s really cool to throw a disabled lesbian who is precariously employed under the bus. She has also commanded York to deal with the situation.

This is getting out of hand. Solidarity with Louise. I hope you’re okay. I actually blame people like Dr Grady more than LM, who clearly has serious issues. But how you can publicly call for someone’s sacking for this when you know what academia is like and how difficult it is for women, POC and disabled people is breathtaking. This is a lesbian woman who takes issue with a heterosexual male appropriating her marginalised status. Same as POC would presumably take issue if a white man started talking about his struggles being trans-black.

Bloody hell, LM is posing as a York Uni student to harass an academic! That's seriously not on. And Dr Grady should be utterly ashamed.

Terfing · 03/01/2019 08:44

Nothing surprises me anymore Sad

The "call out" by the feminist society is particularly upsetting though.

GCAcademic · 03/01/2019 08:50

Jo Grady is one of the principal experts / activists involved in the ongoing USS pensions dispute. Unfortunately, since clocking her anti-science views a few months ago, I no longer trust her credibility in any area. I'm disappointed, though, that she's shouting for a precariously-employed junior academic to lose her job and doesn't believe in academic freedom. If this is the behaviour of someone who's a industrial relations expert, we are in a worse place than I thought in academia.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/01/2019 08:56

The behavior of someone who works at York Uni (said behavior being "makes jokes on Twitter") affects the mental health of first years at Goldsmiths? And York is responsible for the mental health of Goldsmiths students because?

Babdoc · 03/01/2019 09:01

I don’t know if Dr Moody reads MN, but I’d like to send her my support. I hope the bullying, threats and attempted silencing of yet another woman by the TRAs is widely publicised, to peak trans more people.

keeponspinning · 03/01/2019 09:27

Would like to offer my support to Louise also. I am fairly local to York so if anything does come of this (which I sincerely hope it doesn't) would be very happy to be involved in a protest or show of support in person.

GCAcademic · 03/01/2019 09:29

Ditto. I also would be very surprised if anything came of this, but if it did, I'm an external examiner at York and would resign from my position in protest.

Katvonbatshit · 03/01/2019 09:31

Is Louise employed by York though? I didn't think she was based on this response.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 03/01/2019 09:33

So someone who isn't a student there is encouraging the hounding of an establishment which doesn't employ the woman he's pissed off about?

Righty-oh!

GCAcademic · 03/01/2019 09:41

Not impressed by the final sentence of the HoD's email. Even if she did have contact with students, there is no issue whatsoever with them being taught by gender critical academics. There would be no staff left in my department if that was an issue.

snoutandab0ut · 03/01/2019 09:44

hmm, I'm not sure about this. whatever your views on LM, whether you're gender critical or not, this is deliberately mocking someone which is unpleasant. If she'd have attempted to enter into a genuine debate with LM that would be a different matter, but she's clearly being goady

What the fuck

York should tell them to get knotted

And I probably would have thought it was a bit out of order if LM was actually a student there

(Though its reminding me a bit if mumsnet inviting every random on social media to complain about mumsnetters even if the random isn't actually a member...and when the next door neighbour used to complain to dhs DAD that dh hadn't mowed his lawn, and FIL used to tell dh off!!!!!)

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 09:53

elon

I doubt it

But your posts might disappear...

Well your comments will be deleted

Im gonna repost this as it woukd be a shame if it does go

elonmusk...i cant see myself voting labour again at this rate, I mean there was always a split between the "intellectual" labour movement and the people they claimed to represent but FFS, what is happening?

Katvonbatshit · 03/01/2019 09:59

Louise has just gone on Twitter talking about it all.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 03/01/2019 10:02

There is nothing wrong with Louise's tweet. Madigan is not above mockery. In fact, I'd argue they deliberately make themselves a target so they can do pathetic things like this. Women are always being told to be the better person etc etc as if that makes you anything but a doormat: it would be nice to see Madigan finally told the same. Fuck knows, they need to be.

starcrossedseahorse · 03/01/2019 10:04

elon so many of us have given up on Labour. It's a well trodden path.

AbsintheFriends · 03/01/2019 10:05

It doesn't read at all like mockery to me. Louise Moody is a lesbian. She's showing up the absurdity of a male-bodied person seeking plaudits for their bravery in 'coming out' to their family as attracted to female-bodied people. She's calling out the appropriation of a struggle that is not LM's.

To my mind the goadiness is all on LM's side. Deliberately insinuating that they are a student at York and claiming that 'people like this make me wish I wasn't me anymore' is a shameless ploy to escalate the situation and get a better response. (Which could be said to have arisen directly from LM's recent rebranding of LMself as the most lesbian lesbian to ever be a lesbian - goady in itself.)

GerryblewuptheER · 03/01/2019 10:06

Who the fuck does L M think they are.

News flash we do not have to believe this stuff any more than we have to believe in God.

If they put as much work into their studies as they do harassing women and trying to get them ousted from their jobs , or even having a wash, they wouldn't be in the state they are now.

hackmum · 03/01/2019 10:12

Ooh, she's come out fighting. Good for her.

LM is very fragile and seems to crumple under the weight of any kind of teasing or disagreement. Heaven knows how they will survive in the rough-and-tumble world of grown-up politics.
