New target: Dr Louise Moody at York University. Deaf, lesbian, gender critical and precariously employed junior academic. She makes an innocuous joke about LM’s announcement on twitter about ‘coming out’ as a lesbian (ie being heterosexual). Cue a swift complaint to York asking for Louise to be fired, insinuating that LM is a student there themselves. Followed by lots of toady support by mainly males asking for this person to be ‘dealt with’. Including a female academic called Dr Jo Grady who uses terf-blocker and thinks it’s really cool to throw a disabled lesbian who is precariously employed under the bus. She has also commanded York to deal with the situation.

This is getting out of hand. Solidarity with Louise. I hope you’re okay. I actually blame people like Dr Grady more than LM, who clearly has serious issues. But how you can publicly call for someone’s sacking for this when you know what academia is like and how difficult it is for women, POC and disabled people is breathtaking. This is a lesbian woman who takes issue with a heterosexual male appropriating her marginalised status. Same as POC would presumably take issue if a white man started talking about his struggles being trans-black.

Or straight. The horror. Mum would be straight on the phone to the vicar.

TBH I'd perhaps be more relieved if my daughter came out as gay since she won't have to deal with male violence to the same degree. Not of course to imply that lesbians don't deal with male violence at all - they are however avoiding the largest single risk factor for male violence...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/01/2019 18:49

Lesbians can be violent too! I guess these days more so as some (whispers) have willies.

nauticant · 04/01/2019 18:49

I could not possibly comment Rufus.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/01/2019 18:50

Thats like the pigeon one

Can we not do the pigeon one anymore? I like the pigeon one

SirVix I completely agree. There was a twitter post from a young trans person that I came across a couple of days ago, can't remember who, could have been Madigan but might equally have been someone else. It was along the lines of "I bet there isn't a single TERF who was unable to go home for Christmas while lots of trans people have been made to feel unwelcome in their families". Now, much as I sympathise with any trans people who've been thrown out on the streets by their parents, the post shows shocking levels of ignorance given that a lot of the women who are slurred as TERFS will have come out as lesbian in the 70s and 80s when the response was exactly that - you're a pervert, don't bother coming home. It happened to me and many others I hung out with at the time, it's horrible and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but it's vile to use such an experience to play victim trumps, especially without doing a bit of research on what life was like for lesbians 30/40 years ago.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/01/2019 19:06

morning

Its a dumb twitter post anyway

Ill bet that 90%, if not more, of the population would be considered to be a TERF

Loads of people arent able to go home for Christmas...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/01/2019 19:09

I suspect some people wouldn’t be welcome at home over Christmas because they are massive pains in the backside, likely to cause many a melodrama, piss off their siblings, demand to be the centre of attention at all times, and announce they are now vegan [or insert diet if choice] as the turkey is served / no longer vegan as their but roast is served. Then contradict themselves many times until the grown ups get pissed off and hit the emergency Baileys.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/01/2019 19:15

I never want to eat but roast 😭

nauticant · 04/01/2019 19:19

Hahahaha!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/01/2019 19:21

Plus i dont think its vegan

MarshmallowSnowDon · 04/01/2019 19:31

I agree targeting someone’s career and livelihood because they have said words (or worn an item of clothing) that you don’t happen to like is pretty fucken disgusting. But the only way this is getting resolved is if there is a common consensus within society that people can say whatever they like as long as it’s not slanderous, a direct and credible threat to violence or genuine incitement to actually violence (or something like that anyway). If that was the common consensus and the generally agreed upon social norm people wouldn’t complain to someone’s place of work because they would know it would get them no where. But I can’t see feminists agreeing to this consensus or at least they didn’t in the past and were one of the most likely groups to howl in outrage and damaged someone be sacked or censored for saying something they didn’t like. We cannot have this both ways. Look in the mirror, all that has happened is the boot is on the other foot now.

sorenipples · 04/01/2019 19:34

New target set. The times.

Poppyred85 · 04/01/2019 19:36

So, Louise is a hearing impaired, lesbian female....but we’re supposed to believe that L Madigan, who regardless of how L Madigan identifies now, at least experienced male privilege at some point in their life is the most vulnerable person ever in this situation? Hmm

dillydallyXX · 04/01/2019 19:41

And still no answer from Madigan as to who they spoke to at York. "They" told them that Louise was not on a contract and not employed by them. Who is "they"? When did they speak to Madigan? Where is the proof?

Madigan refuses to answer.

sorenipples · 04/01/2019 20:02

So this looks interesting.

Apparently The Times created the atmosphere whereby Louise thought it was ok to refer to Lily as a heterosexual by bullying her with misleading articles. A labour party councillor has stepped up and asked for evidence and if she contacted the regulator. As she should if her claims are correct.

I am loving this thread on twitter. Seriously considering taking out a Times subscriptions after seeing all these headlines.

"regardless of how L Madigan identifies now, at least experienced male privilege at some point in their life is the most vulnerable person ever in this situation? hmm"

Trans women have never experienced male privilege, according to them.

Ereshkigal · 04/01/2019 20:55

Several of those articles are about crimes or bad acts committed by MTF trans people. Do they expect them to get no negative attention in the press?

VickyEadie · 04/01/2019 21:03

Trans women have never experienced male privilege, according to them.

To lillustrate how generally ridiculous this claim is, I call my chief witness in rebuttal: Jenner. To claim that Jenner "never experienced male privilege" is hilarious.

1hello2hello · 04/01/2019 21:17

The British Jenner is Sue Pascoe former Master of the Hunt, partner in international services practice PWC & now Ch4 inclusion advisor.

Vegilante · 04/01/2019 21:37

Apparently LM is giving up plans to become first trans PM & shooting for first trans poet laureate instead:

"Big feet
Small feet
Terfs are
Obsolete"

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 04/01/2019 21:37

Pips Bunce,

nauticant · 04/01/2019 21:46

Sounds more like E. J. Thribb (17½) to me.

AngryAttackKittens · 04/01/2019 22:58

So Madigan now believes that Madigan can take down The Times? Or what, get Janice Turner and Andrew Gilligan sacked?

This is what happens when you humor a narcissist.
