A Trans Woman Was Asked To Leave The Women's Changing Room At A PureGym

Exclusive: The woman was told that "no men are allowed" in the women's changing room after gym staff received a complaint from another member.

How long until the backlash forces a change in policy do you think?

VickyEadie, laughed out loud at that. I must admit we women do have it easier with our clothes. Basically we have been cross dressing for years, ever since wearing trousers were seen as being acceptable for women, I rarely wear a skirt or dress, trousers are so much more comfortable and practical. I also have short hair and rarely wear make up. In the seventies men started to wear gorgeous clothes, grew their hair long and wore make up (well, some of the more daring) It didn't take away from their masculinity though. It seems to me the extreme trans-activists could learn a lesson or two from those days, men and women were allowed far more freedom to be themselves. Of course it was seen in some quarters as degenerate and leading to the breakdown of society. The hate of the extreme trans-activists is chilling, the hatred towards women who they purport to want to be. It is baffling. Anyway thank you for making me laugh, we need it God knows in these times.

fekko I thought it was only me who had a minor panic attack in the air lock entry system things! I used to go to a The Gym - also 24 hour. Latest I went was 11 & I'd find the changing room pretty scary at that time. It felt so cut off - nobody would hear you shout. No other women seemed to go that late & no staff.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 20:00

I hate the airlock. I always think I'm either going to get trapped or sucked up into oblivion.

We need a case like this to go to court, so a ruling can definitively be made that womens changing rooms are for women & children Only. Men, however they identify use the men’s or campaign for a 3rd space.

From the article: Sarah also hoped sharing her story would be an act of solidarity with other trans people who have had similar experiences. “I’ve heard from other trans women that they’ve felt ashamed, or humiliated,” she said.

“I guess I just want people to know that if you’re trying to go to the gym and have a workout, that’s nothing to be ashamed of

There’s nothing to be ashamed of about going to the gym, the bit that it’s appropriate to feel ashamed about, is using the changing rooms of the opposite sex. There are strong societal taboos against this, for good reason. The reason Sarah felt ashamed is because this was an appropriate emotion, and Sarah was trying to pretend that it wasn’t. Sarah feels ashamed because Sarah knows full well Sarah shouldn’t be in the women’s 🤷‍♀️

SlowlyShrinking · 18/12/2018 20:16

Also I would feel ashamed and humiliated if I had to change in front of a man. Where’s my buzzfeed interview? Or does that not matter? #maleprivilege!!

happydappy2 · 18/12/2018 20:16

Interestingly Paris has just tweeted a photo of themselves in a pool, claiming the unfairness of not being able to go swimming....
They just don’t get that Of Course they have every right to go swimming, just NOT to be in the women’s changing room, as that space is designed for women.

@GhostSauce

Totally agree. 2019 has been a total headfuck.

Never know what to say anymore it's all just too fucked up

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/12/2018 20:20

Sarah deserves privacy.

Women on the other hand, don’t.

Women just get back in your boxes! Your bodies are not yours. 🙄

bluescreen · 18/12/2018 20:33

Women just get back in your boxes! Your bodies are not yours.

Yeah, Fekko - that's another thing I was told by this angry ally: Stop policing women's bodies! By which he meant 'the bodies of trans women' who, he says, as do all the other woke blokes, are women. End of. And once they have redefined 'woman' in their mind all the rest of it's easy and all our complaints, reservations, discomfiture, outrage etc are bigotry. No need for them to process any of it. La la la. I wonder if their attitude would be very different if they weren't single and childless. Have a suspicion it might be, especially if they had what we used to call unambiguously 'daughters'.

ChattyLion · 18/12/2018 20:34

Not RTFT but the complaint is ‘made someone feel uncomfortable’. Whether by presence of penis in the Ladies alone or by behaviour exhibited by the penis-owners that was in the Ladies.

Why it is not OK for Sarah to use the offered third space if she refuses to use the men’s? Why is it women who always have to budge up.. if women are being made to feel uncomfortable then it is right that Sarah leaves. Women being turned away from using women’s facilities because they don’t feel comfortable is not a price worth paying just to validate Sarah.

Zwischenwasser · 18/12/2018 20:34

in the 1980s and 90s I was happily sharing toilets with cross dressing men. Probably before the woke people were born. It's not that!

That is so fucking true

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 20:35

Because amrhe alternative ace wasn’t a purely hallowed women only space.

They couldn’t use it whilst humming ‘cos I’m a wooooooman W-O-MAN, I’ll say it again...’

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 18/12/2018 20:36

I've just used that link from Womantheonlykind and it's worked for me, may be worth trying again?

Post at 7.32, by Illyia 47 ( sorry don't know how to do the quote thing) re New Zealand.

Could you tell us more about how self ID went/ is going there?

We are told there were "no problems",but those of us who object to self ID in the UK find that hard to believe.

There MUST be worries and issues, surely? How does it work, or not work, there?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 18/12/2018 20:47

If the same proportion of Muslim people were terrorists as men are rapists and pedophiles, there would conservatively be 25 million Islamic terrorists in the world. I'd be more sympathetic to the worriers were that the case

What does woke mean?

2rebecca · 18/12/2018 22:10

I think having individual cubicles and just calling them gender neutral accessible cubicles would help. Then no-one is using a "disabled" space and people who are trans have somewhere private to change, also people who might prefer privacy because they have a colostomy bag but don't consider themselves disabled

A trans woman was asked to leave the women's changing room at a branch of PureGym after another member had complained about a man in the changing room.

Appalling. Those who feel ‘discomforted’ by trans inclusion should be challenged, not accommodated.

This man. This man, on Twitter, with 11K followers. Is saying that a woman (in his words he depersonalises her to 'another member') should be challenged if they feel 'discomforted' by what he calls 'trans inclusion'.

Senthorun is a lecturer in law at Keele. He has also worked as the Senior Policy Advisor for the NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby and served on the board of Amnesty International Australia.

This man is telling you that if you are a woman and feel uncomfortable at the prospect of a male-bodied person in what you understood to be a sex-segregated space, you should be challenged.

And he would be appalled at your behaviour.

Women's boundaries. Women's space, privacy, dignity and rights. Women's rights to say no. Appalling, according to Senthorun.

And if you're still thinking this is a tiny % of people who are so dysphoric about their bodies, you wouldn't notice they had male genitalia, I recall a few months back when a NY trans gym user finally let myself be completely naked in the women's locker room, and it was so incredibly liberating.

I'm not going to link to them but for anyone wondering the reality of what this actually meant, they have a naked picture of themselves on their reddit account, complete with silicone breasts and a penis.

When people questioned them, they stated Well, my official policy is that we are women, and that we have a right to use that space and there were likely white women who balked at black women being in locker rooms after they were desegregated, just as there are likely cis women who balk at trans women being in the locker room today

You can object to my contrasting of two points in history, but I believe that it exemplifies two instances where the female majority had to adapt to a female minority.

Senthorun is telling you that if you have a problem with a 'female' penis' in your space, you should be challenged, he is appalled.

And he served on the board of Amnesty.

This is why we keep on speaking out.

KayM2 · 18/12/2018 22:18

This is just horrible stuff. I honestly believe that in the first stages of " transition" many of us are stark staring bonkers, and certainly put our " rights" (sic) ahead of our responsibilities.

It is indefensible.
