A Trans Woman Was Asked To Leave The Women's Changing Room At A PureGym

Exclusive: The woman was told that "no men are allowed" in the women's changing room after gym staff received a complaint from another member.

How long until the backlash forces a change in policy do you think?

With regard to EqA - it is a shoddy piece of legislation that is up for renewal because it is shoddy, and in all areas, not just about the obfuscation of sex and gender that was inserted due to the influence of transsexual not transgender lobbyists and activists. It was rushed through by an outgoing Labour government who knew that they were about to lose an election. It is terrible for women. When renewed, it should replace the rights it removed from women in 2010.

Many of us have already filled in the recent government consultation to that end. Threads here:

No point in relying on EqA to argue against feminists on here. We've been there, done it, got the t-shirt. Do keep up.

When women are deciding whether to let men into their spaces, I do feel that the feelings of the men should be largely irrelevant. How much a TS woman desperately wants to be in the women's space isn't the main issue.

BeUpStanding · 20/12/2018 09:11

WHY are we having to continue to discuss which male-born people should be allowed into female only spaces like gym changing rooms?

And Kay please stop claiming victimhood simply because you don't like what women on this board are saying. It really isn't personal and it's not about you.

The Goverment has publically committed to making more accommodations so I can't see that happening.

What you're saying is that you want the Goverment to take back the rights it gave TS people so TS people get nothing.

How much a TS woman desperately wants to be in the women's space isn't the main issue.
Except in a small number of cases it isn't about want. Back to the medical issue of dysphoria. Do you think I want to be transsexual ? Do I want to live a life outcast and not accepted as male or female subject to daily abuse ? If I could present as male and function in life I would do it in a heartbeat. I'm often accused on MN of simply "not getting it"....sorry to say but many here clearly dont get what dysphoria means and its impact.

indieshuffle · 20/12/2018 09:16

I'm so tired of being stuck in Groundhog Day. Never bloody ends, this film.

Forced teaming. Every time one analyses all this, one returns to the same thing.

Yes, catching up on the thread in one go the impression is even more striking.

Can't. You do seem to be saying that if women are fooled into thinking you are a woman, then it is all ok? And using it as a gotcha.

Testosterone is not the only problem. Men/males who have thoughts that are hurtful to women are a problem even if they don't act out in overtly physical or violent ways. It leaks out in everything he will do.

There is a reason that many men have used ideology to control people and gain power, not just guns and tanks.

Well one thing that is clear from that article was that Sarah’s primary purpose for going to the gym wasn’t going for a workout. She purposefully chose a gym that she thought would allow her to use the female change rooms. When they offered her a gender neutral change room to use if she felt uncomfortable using the male alternative she left the gym and has not joined another gym because she isn’t confident that she can find one that will let her change in the female changing room. Sarah doesn’t want a work out. She wants to change in the female changing room.

No, I meant what I said. It should return the rights it removed from women in 2010. If TS people need rights, these should be specific TS rights that do not remove women's rights.

Thank you for demonstrating very clearly that you cannot conceive of women having rights that you are not entitled to colonise.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 20/12/2018 09:23

Except in a small number of cases it isn't about want. Back to the medical issue of dysphoria.

Third spaces would solve this! Safety, privacy and dignity for TSs, and the same for women in the form of sex segregated spaces if they want to use them. Third spaces for those who are happy with mixed sex spaces, which would mean people wouldn't be outed.

Unfortunately I like pretty much all other women do recognise the concept of being perved on because it has been happening to me since I was about 8 years old.

Wouldn't it be lovely not to recognise that concept? I don't know a single woman who doesn't, though, or a girl over the age of 8 or 9.

AlexanderHamilton · 20/12/2018 09:28

I can honestly say I’ve never been aware of being perved on.

I’m either not attractive enough for anyone to want to or just not been aware.

I’ve often been with groups of other women from being a teen onwards who have perved on men (but I guess they weren’t aware either perhaps)

LangCleg · 20/12/2018 09:29

I was wanked at, aged 12. And that was in the open air, let alone a fucking changing room. My #metoo is teensy tiny in comparison to most women. Yet we are all expected, it seems, to prioritise the horrible things that have happened to people who aren't women. Nope. Not doing that. Other solutions must be found for them. Women know what works for them and that's my priority.

The first time I was wanked at that I was aware of I was 9.

That last deletion is way over the line, imo. The mod team would really, really benefit from doing the Freedom Program, because that right there is assisting one commenter in coercively controlling others.

TheLazyDuchess · 20/12/2018 09:38

"And once again you form an opinion of me based on my biological status."

Bullshit, we're forming our opinions of you and your ignorance based on phrases like "I will admit I dont understand the concept of "perv"ing on women"!, Not just perving but sexual and physical assault on a scale so massive, as to make it a common thing. Being wolf whistled at, leered at, flashed at, abused, lusted over from no age. Being 14 and seeing strange men mentally undress you etc. And that's just the pervy aspect, there's the dominance, and power struggles in other ways too. You were sexually assaulted yourself, because you were dressed in a feminised way? And you still don't get it how shit that feels, not just the attack, but feeling like how you dressed or acted caused it/you brought it on yourself?

"I get it. I'm a freak and it would be much more convenient for you all if I threw myself in front of a passing bus." Oh niw catch a grip, no one wants you to die for Gods sake! Just to take on board what we're saying and educate yourself on womens issues before commenting?

AngryAttackKittens · 20/12/2018 09:41

On the idea that women here are forming their opinions on transwomen purely based on their biology, if that was the case, why would we like and get along well with Miranda, or Hamster, or Pigeon, or Curry?

It's not the biology that makes positive relationships impossible, it's the behavior.

BettyDuMonde · 20/12/2018 09:43

The whole point of single sex services and spaces is so that people with the same kind of bodies are grouped together.

Having dysphoria does not give you the same kind of body as the opposite sex.

I only want to have my smear tests performed by women - not because I am transphobic or misandrist, but because women know what it’s like to have a those body parts and those tests.

It’s not about feelings, it’s about the material reality of bodies.
