A Trans Woman Was Asked To Leave The Women's Changing Room At A PureGym

Exclusive: The woman was told that "no men are allowed" in the women's changing room after gym staff received a complaint from another member.

How long until the backlash forces a change in policy do you think?

Don't know very much about this article, but maybe the person in question thought, I see myself as a woman, I dress as a woman, I have long hair, wear make up, and take tablets to make said penis useless. I know it may have been quite a shock, but, it's nearly 2019 guys..... Merry Xmas x

Is your point that in nearly 2019, women have no right to privacy from men and men are no longer any threat to women?

ChesterGreySideboard · 18/12/2018 18:31

What does the year have to do with keeping women and girls safe?
How do I know that this person is taking tablets to make their penis useless?
Why do women and girls have to budge up to make other people happy?

bluescreen · 18/12/2018 18:34

... or maybe your point is that self-perception + long hair + make up + hormone treatment = woman? Because that's actually a superficial and ignorant understanding of what a woman is.
Oh, and wrong.

My Pure gym is also a 24 hour place (I don’t know if they all are) and you enter via a keypad and ‘airlock’ door (which is horrible).

The ladies is gloomy and dark at the best of times and a bit creepy (no natural light).

During the day there is minimal staff so I assume as night there is next to none. We are beside a couple of large hospitals and student dorms so it will be used at night (I wouldn’t know!).

So any man could wander into the women’s area at night (minimal staff). But any woman could scream blue murder and call the police.

Now what, we are scared to say ‘excuse me but this is the ladiws’ even if the person had a beard and an erection?

It’s nearly 2019 - tap your heels together three times and repeat “ I see myself as a woman “ . Ta da.
Just tried it ; “I see myself as six feet tall” . Nope, didn’t work Dorothy but thanks for advice.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 18:48

I see myself as a healthy 20 year old.

tarziew · 18/12/2018 18:59

Reading this I just think of the creepy af Jonathan Yanev asking if it’s ok to approach a young girl about a tampon if he sees her tampon string in the changing room. Stay the hell out of changing rooms you absolute freak.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 19:01

He must be looking really closely at little girls. 🥺

sackrifice · 18/12/2018 19:07

What? Ho ho ho - here's my penis with bells on?

I don't give a fuck what the person with the penis thinks, it is not their place to access female spaces.

BettyDuMonde · 18/12/2018 19:07

Well, here in 2018 a man with long hair and a non-functioning penis is STILL A MAN. You must predict massive leaps in science for 2019?

As for our ‘friend’ JY...

I’ve never seen another woman’s tampon string.
Not once.
Not even when I worked with partially clothed women at a table dancing club.

His eyesight must be phenomenal.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 19:09

I knew a man who had damaged his arm so much he had barely any feeling in it and it had no movement all, and it was always in a sling. It was still an arm though.

It’s a freaking bicycle!

I say this a lot. Not always when there is a bicycle in sight.

MrsTerryPratcett · 18/12/2018 19:13

In the 1980s and 90s I was happily sharing toilets with cross dressing men. Probably before the woke people were born. It's not that!

It is the sheer danger of allowing anyone who wants into women's space. You won't need pills, or clothes or paperwork (because you won't be allowed to ask). It will just be ok for any man to walk into any women's space. That's the issue, not transwomen who have been accommodated for decades.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 19:14

Because they probably didn’t say ‘I am a woman’.

hackmum · 18/12/2018 19:16

I don’t have long hair or wear make-up. Does that make me a man? What with it being nearly 2019 and all?

snowbear66 · 18/12/2018 19:23

“But apparently, being wary of the unknown male body is the equivalent of assuming all foreigners are terrorists.”...
I think the point to make is that there are safeguards in place against terrorism now- think of airport security/ warnings to report stray bags / bag checks in museums & venues etc..
But while quite rightly no one ethnic group is targeted, safeguards have been made to try and prevent a potential new threat to the public- whereas safeguards for women in changing rooms are just being dismantled and there is going to be no protection from potential risk from now on.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 19:23

I’ve just mended the boiler. Shit I must be a man. But I wore a skirt to work - must be a woman. Made dinner - woman? It’s the best dinner in the world and I may need to crow about it all night as is I was the next winner of MasterChef. Deffo a man then.

Glad that’s all cleared up then.

MrsTerryPratcett · 18/12/2018 19:31

If the same proportion of Muslim people were terrorists as men are rapists and pedophiles, there would conservatively be 25 million Islamic terrorists in the world. I'd be more sympathetic to the worriers were that the case.

Illyria47 · 18/12/2018 19:32

The same has happened here in New Zealand. If a trans-woman does not wish to have gender reassignment surgery and wishes to use facilities such as gyms they should continue to use the male changing rooms and showers. The men will just have to accept it. Or a neutral space such as offered. Why is it always women who are being forced to be accepting. I agree with the use of the term 'male bodied people'. It is correct usage, we women do not want fully functioning male bodies in our spaces. We must stand firm. I am 71 years old, haven't fought the good fight for women's liberation and equality to have this nonsense defeat us.

VickyEadie · 18/12/2018 19:37

Partner, pal of many years and I - all women 60+ - sat round the table having lunch today. We were discussing the concept of 'non-binary' and realised that we all were at that moment (short hair, jeans, fleece jumper or t shirt, no make up).

Bowlofbabelfish · 18/12/2018 19:47

maybe the person in question thought, I see myself as a woman, I dress as a woman, I have long hair, wear make up, and take tablets to make said penis useless.

So what? They’re a man, there’s no hierarchy of men who are absolutely not/maybe/definitely ok to access single sex provision. none of them are. I keep reading threads where men are discussing which of them is more of a woman and should have access. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so surreal and downright dangerous.

A man is a man is a man. And all of them stay out of single sex provision. Nice men who wouldn’t hurt a fly, average men, nasty men, rapist men, big men, small men, men who have erectile dysfunction, men who have intact penises, men who have lost them to surgery, or illness or injury. They are all men. They all stay out.

Humans can’t change sex. Men stay out of single sex provision

Long hair doesn’t change your sex.
