Glinner’s Xmas Break

tarziew · 15/12/2018 01:16

I just watched Graham’s video tonight where he says he’s taking a break from Twitter over Xmas and I realised that a) we are going to miss him hugely and b) he must be in need of some headspace. The guy is a fucking legend and has taken on this fight to much cost to his reputation, not to mention personal life. I feel such love for the man because he is the ONLY ‘celebrity’ who’s vocal on Twitter who seems to feel as aggrieved and as passionate as I do! It breaks my heart that it might be getting too much for him because if he bowed out I’d feel like they’d won.

Graham, I hope you have a peaceful break over Xmas because if anyone deserves some down time it’s you you bloody ledge.

Thank you so much for all that you do.

❤️

The tweets:

Objection to Glinner taking a position:

".@Glinner is urging @MumsnetTowers users to pressure @BigLotteryFund to take money away from @Mermaids_Gender, a vitally important charity for young people and their families. My childhood would have been far less difficult with them. Let Big Lottery know if you feel the same way"

This is of course horrible (appeals to fudged stats):

"This is utterly despicable. I hope @Justine_Roberts removes this post immediately and puts out a strong statement making clear that @MumsnetTowers** won't be used as a place to host anti-trans campaigns that seek to defund charities doing important work to help vulnerable children.[then a quote tweet referencing "Butterfly"]

Claim that opposing position is evil, and attacking the platform that allows opposing positions to be posted:

"This is utterly despicable. I hope @Justine_Roberts removes this post immediately and puts out a strong statement making clear that @MumsnetTowers** won't be used as a place to host anti-trans campaigns that seek to defund charities doing important work to help vulnerable children."

[note: if you're on a computer, all you need to do is open an incognito or private window to see tweets from someone who blacks you.]

KindOfAGeek · 16/12/2018 23:08

spelling correction: someone who blocks you

ToeToToe · 16/12/2018 23:10

Loads of tweeters have just joined up to report that thread? Not on Mumsnet.

That was a valid thread, asking us to send an email to stop half a million quid of lottery money being sent to a "charity" that advocates puberty blockers and surgery - which cause longterm sterility - on children.

This is a parenting forum!

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 16/12/2018 23:12

Thanks for that wow that's dreadful - we're not allowed anything are we? I'm on my phone and my Twitter account is blocked by Paris Lees so couldn't see the tweet.

Did see this though about Mumsnet which shows that they like to come on here and cause troubl. Imagine if we went on to any transgender websites to cause trouble we just wouldn't.

I keep reading more and more that the new liberal left has a totalitarian streak. If you see yourself as the biggest victim then you'll believe you have the moral right to silence other people. I am also on the left but I don't believe in crybullying.

KindOfAGeek · 16/12/2018 23:30

Oops; screwed up my cut and paste (I prefer it to screenshots as more readable, but mistakes)

Second tweet was:

"It's particularly repulsive to do this at Christmas, when many trans people are reminded how lack of family support feels. He also quotes false stats. The medical community is clear: accepting trans kids for who they say they are provides the best outcomes " [quote tweet reference to "Butterfly"]

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/12/2018 07:49

Happy Christmas, Glinner! Wishing you and yours a very warm holiday season full of love and joy. Xmas Smile Thanks so much for standing with women and children in this. Massively grateful for your support. StarWineGin
Also, I can’t believe that other thread got taken down! How could it possibly have broken guidelines?

HandsOffMyRights · 17/12/2018 08:11

Somebody on here always says 'They go low, we go high.'

Their underhand, scaremonger tactics. The bullying and doxxing cannot silence everyone.

They can't stop us emailing the Big Lottery, talking to people in real life.

They're full of rage over Andrew Gilligan's excellent piece and Minnymum (waves) has been trying to whip up trouble. Why? What are they all so scared of?

We can and will expose this. It will all come out in the wash. However, I don't want any more children to suffer just because we keep getting blocked.

Sex. Money. Power.

VickyEadie · 17/12/2018 08:20

I see that tweet above refers to all MN women as "dry menopausal old women".

They just can't stop themselves reverting to type, can they?

Dragon3 · 17/12/2018 08:26

12 million dry menopausal women. It must be scary for them.

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/12/2018 08:41

You can’t have it all ways, TRAs. Didn’t I hear whisperings that transwomen are basically like menopausal women, given TRAs renamed the correct medical intervention of cross-sex hormones as “hormone replacement therapy”? There is nothing to “replace” by giving the hormones associated with the opposite sex to a male or a female. TRAs seem to have specifically chosen that terminology to make an analogy between menopausal women and males who believe they are women.
So... it’s a little rich now to dismiss women of wisdom and maturity after you’ve co-opted their natural endocrine changes to further your own narrative.
If for nothing else, you will get old too.Wink

tarziew · 17/12/2018 08:43

If I squint at Paris Lee’s screenshot I can still see the email address.

Dawn. Austwick@biglotteryfund. org.uk

I shall be emailing her this morning with a detailed description of the carry on on here last night.

They will not win.

Paris' tweet and the outraged re tweets are the only way I knew about this and the original content of the other thread's OP. Including the info of whom to contact. Thanks Paris, saved me a job!

Ereshkigal · 17/12/2018 08:46

Why are they so worried if they think Mermaids is beyond reproach?

DerRosenkavelier · 17/12/2018 09:17

Just wanted to add my thanks and appreciation to Glinner.

It is wonderful that he stands up to the dreadful hate and bile. And his courage really helps when I feel like throwing my hands up and backing away from the whole thing.

For my part, I’m a typical MC mother in a nice little bubble. I have sons who are not at a ‘risky’ age yet for all the YouTube shite (hopefully). My friends think I am nuts to be bothered about this kind of stuff and think I’m overreacting. The only one who has read a tiny bit on this cites the ‘45 per cent of children will commit suicide’ nonsense as a reason to support the trans agenda.

But apart from my massive self interest that I don’t want to called ‘cis’, and I don’t want male bodied people in changing rooms, or wards, or have unfettered access to places young girls are vulnerable, or indeed any women are vulnerable, it was a statement from a women’s group in east London that really troubled me.

I can’t remember the precise details (maybe someone on here can remember) but a representative pointed out how it would be the socially disadvantaged that would really suffer. TRAs may target language and academics, and insist their penises should be allowed in TopShop changing rooms, but it’s poor women accessing crisis services who will really suffer.
If you have no choice but to go into a homeless shelter, you will have no choice if someone with a raging boner is put in the bed next to you.

So thank you Glinner. You have already given me the favourite moment of Christmas so far. My DS and I cuddled up on the sofa and I introduced him to the IT Crowd; he laughed like a drain.

LangCleg · 17/12/2018 09:38

DerRosenkavelier - it was a Twitter thread by Lucy of the Deptford People's Project. She is interviewed at Feminist Current about it here:

www.feministcurrent.com/2018/03/23/leftist-women-uk-refuse-accept-labours-attempts-silence-critiques-gender-identity/

Melamin · 17/12/2018 09:45

Why are they so worried if they think Mermaids is beyond reproach?

It shouldn't really be a problem with all the verifiable information they at their finger tips. Wink

tarziew · 17/12/2018 10:01

I just sent this to the Big Lottery lady.

Dear Dawn,

I'm sure you are already bombarded with emails first thing on Monday regarding the carry on on Mumsnet last night so I won't keep you too long.

This is just to send a message to please reconsider the allocation of lottery money to the organisation Mermaids.

As you may be aware by now, this is an organisation created after a woman, Susie Green took her son out of the country for a sex change operation for his 16th birthday which was and still is illegal in the UK.

This organisation (I don't know if it's an registered charity) is pushing for medical and surgical interventions for CHILDREN, instead of the NHS recommended method of 'watchful waiting'.

Many children with gender dysphoria grow out of it if not sent down the medical path (around 90%). However once children start taking puberty blockers the chance of them 'detranstioning' drops to less than 10%.

The NHS method of watchful waiting is by far the most sensible one, considering how many children do in fact change their minds. Social media has a huge part to play in this as well.

Mermaids advocate breast binding for young girls, surgery and powerful hormones for both sexes, leaving these children sterile. This cannot be considered acceptable under the age of 18.

The transactivist lobby are loud and noisy and quite frankly abusive as I'm sure you will be aware by now so I know the pressure you will be under this morning.

I urge you to please listen to the sensible parents of Mumsnet and withdraw the promise of funding.

Yours sincerely,

Great letter OP.

Danaquestionseverything · 17/12/2018 10:05

Thanks for all you do Glinner. Wishing you and your family a restful and merry Christmas.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/12/2018 10:14

Glinner posted this on another thread last night

From a friend

"Can everyone write their complaints to Dawn Austwick [email protected] and urge others to do so. The grant has been confirmed but not signed off, there is still time to stop it and we need to force a review. Mermaids push an extreme ideological agenda, they are not professionals and they have no qualification to work with children and young people. Their approach towards children with gender dysphoria is experimental and non-evidence-based but we know that children treated in this way are more likely to embark on a medical pathway they don't come off once they start. The vast majority (around 80%) would resolve their feelings naturally by the end of puberty if left alone, and the most likely outcome is same-sex orientation in adulthood."

Will do, Graham. Thanks for all you do. Take care of yourself and your family and have a peaceful and joyful Christmas.

AdultHumanFemaleXX · 17/12/2018 11:09

Thank you for all that you've done Glinner, it is such a huge relief that someone in your position really gets this, sees how wrong and insane it all is and is willing to stand up to it. It's all so stressful and exhausting so I hope you do manage to take a break from it all over Christmas. I'm going to try and do that too. Have a wonderful Christmas! WineXmas Smile

vicviking · 17/12/2018 11:26

Adding my thanks to Glinner. Absolute star.
