Vice: how an online forum for moms became a toxic hotbed of transphobia

Thought people might be interested in this article. One thing that strikes me is the 'reducing women to their biology' argument. Don't transwomen 'know' they're not male because their body feels wrong? Then it is about biology isn't it? Otherwise why do they think they're female?

Hey, I'm not a woman and I'm not white. Your deluded analysis needs broadening. Sorry TRAs the wheels have come off and I can assure you that there are rather more than 100 vocal mumsnetters standing up for women. I have yet to meet a single person in real life that agrees with self id or giving children puberty blockers. It may take years but we will win.

Dothehappydance · 06/12/2018 19:33

I have a look brush.

I also left an old one in my old house when we moved Blush

Dothehappydance · 06/12/2018 19:34

A look brush? That sounds interesting. I do have a loo brush though.

Ereshkigal · 06/12/2018 19:36

How do they know what colour the members of this toxic hotbed are?

They don't care. They just want to spout thought terminating cliches like "white feminism".

A really surprising number of the young ones are public school/boarding school products too. Not to mention straight and able bodied Smile

Quite a number of the evil witches here are neither of those, nor middle class either. There are even [horrors] lesbians of the kind that are exclusively sexually attracted to female biology instead of people who are emotional, can't read maps and like pink, and say so . You'd think homosexuality was legal or something.

pollyname · 06/12/2018 19:37

My favourite bit of the article was were she listed all the obvious transphobia on Mumsnet.... hmm...

FatherBuzzCagney · 06/12/2018 19:37

We should stick to discussing nappies and dealing with temper tantrums (the kind thrown by 2-year-olds, not 20-something transwomen).

And definitely not the kind of nappies worn by the brave and stunning.

By the way Eve Livingston, MN describes itself as 'by parents for parents' not 'for moms' - not very impressed with your dad-exclusionary assumptions there.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/12/2018 19:39

With permission I’d like to order some nice bed linen for the hotbeds

look, the bedding is 100% cotton or I'm going no where near the toxic hotbed

i'm having nothing to do with poly cotton, I don't give a shit if it is easy to iron

Ereshkigal · 06/12/2018 19:39

Took the words right out of my mouth, Father!

Ereshkigal · 06/12/2018 19:39

MOMSNET

HumberElla · 06/12/2018 19:40

Bowl that is a wonderful vision - I could hear an orchestra building in my minds ear as I was reading your post!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/12/2018 19:42

I'm never normally one to criticise my MIL, she's lovely, but she has a set of bedding for the guest bed that I swear must be 150% man made fibre. It's the most uncomfortable thing I've ever slept under. one night I went and laid down on the landing just to get away from it

boatyardblues · 06/12/2018 19:42

Yeah, however hard we try to corrall them onto Dadsnet they still hang around on here and - gasp - make meaningful contributions. 🤷‍♂️

Knicknackpaddyflak · 06/12/2018 19:45

Mind you, many of the toxically hotbedded here arrived to see the shocking transphobia for themselves having seen the articles like this one. And found no transphobia but a hell of a lot of concerns about womens rights they were shocked by, and agreed with, and so stayed.

Many have since been radicalised about the five day roast chicken and not leaving sheets out to get darked on. S'shocking.

MrsFogi · 06/12/2018 19:45

Those of you organising the bedlinen please do think carefully about how many pillows and cushions a toxic hotbed full of radical feminists needs. I'd like to put an order in for two rectangular pillows and a big square one so that I can be comfortable sitting up reading my radical feminist books. I'm also pondering whether or not a bolster would be a good addition to a communal bed....

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/12/2018 19:47

What's so scary about white middle-class, middle-aged women that their opinions have to be constantly dismissed?

I'm making no assumptions about posters, just that the above demographic are always derided as pernicious, useless, and having no part in debate, because what?

AspieAndProud · 06/12/2018 19:48

look, the bedding is 100% cotton or I'm going no where near the toxic hotbed

There’s no cotton spare for bedding while we’ve got that ceiling to maintain.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/12/2018 19:49

Is it because we're essentially their Mums and they're having a big teenage hiss-fit with us?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 06/12/2018 19:50

Am now wandering around singing 'oh the bed.... mmmm the bed.... I love the bed!'

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/12/2018 19:50

God Joss Prior comes over as a loon in that article doesn't Joss?

Joss Prior can be heard on the video below and read discussing it on the thread; in the third person initially & later commenting openly as herself.

Poor Eve, you'll be middle aged soon, you realise. Will you be a cool girl then? Or will your younger colleagues of both sexes roll their eyes when you express your opinions on topical issues? You ageist, sexist fool.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/12/2018 19:52

The author of this farticle must have searched long and hard to find that spectacularly unflattering pic of Justine.

Spiteful.

She's still got more balls than the entire staff and readership of Spiked put together.

FatherBuzzCagney · 06/12/2018 19:53

Can you get a tan on this toxic hotbed? Will toxic hotbeds be available in the gulag?
