That's where I want to live right now. Home of the Bluestocking pub and the Shady Pines, the favoured retirement home of gin-swilling, cantankerous elderly gender crit feminists. It's like that village in the Dales which dodged the bubonic plague and is a haven from PoMo fuckwittery. Anyone else in?

Also can we open an apothecary herbal shop like this?

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/08/2019 09:34

@TurboTeddy thanks although I don't want to have to use either skill any more it's a funny conversation starter/ stopper when I've mentioned it.

boatyardblues · 11/08/2019 09:44

Sickof’s skillset seems like one of those combinations you used to get in frontier/gold rush settlements.

Sickoffamilydrama
I can imagine. I was a nurse too so I'd find a discussion about your two careers fascinating.

Yeahnahyeah · 11/08/2019 10:08

...the compost piles are coming along nicely 8 months on...

Oi love compost.

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/08/2019 14:04

@TurboTeddy I liked helping people in nursing and giving my all & funeral directing is similar in that you are helping people at a bad time weirdly the children & baby funerals are the most satisfying as in you can make the most difference. But both bank suck the emotional energy from you because you constantly give.

I now do something linked with the funeral industry which I love.

Boatyardblues I fancy being a frontiers woman maybe Dr Quinn style so a false sanitised frontier not the hard labour and early death most endured.

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 11/08/2019 18:11

SDTG, IIRC rhubarb is one that's ready fairly quickly, but don't quote me - I can't have rhubarb any more (WAAHH!) because of arthritis. I used to like it with either ginger or a few raspberries. No harm comes to any of these concoctions by leaving them on the fruit for a long, long time, IME, and I am extremely lazy. I strained some of last year's quince and damson ones about a month ago (we'd had some of both at Christmas, too).

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 11/08/2019 19:15

You might like 'When Calls the Heart' on Netflix Sickofffamilydrama, it is very sanitised rather glamorous version of frontier life but I secretly rather like it. Hope Valley where they live looks extremely cosy, kind of like an American frontier version of Badley Fuckitt but with men too (I'm assuming Badley is women only?)

Another closet When Calls the Heart fan here. It’s very sanitised, tea time telly but it got me through the first 12 months of Brexit gloom.

Thank you@MontyPythonsFlyingFuck! Maybe I will have a taste later and see how it is doing. Hic.

EducatingArti · 11/08/2019 20:12

I'd like to help out with @mindtheminotaur 's archaeological dig as I've got quite a few skills already ticked off in my bajr archaeological skills passport.
I can offer prayer and meditation sessions in the church and can help with growing food and flowers. I'll also run a craft club if anyone is interested and would like to join the choir.
Can I have a smallish cottage with an attached woodworking room cum crafts area? I'd like a garden with fruit trees and a cat too!

It's good isn't it! But such an 'uncool' easy to ridicule show I barely admit to it. Glad to meet a fellow fan!

boatyardblues · 11/08/2019 20:29

I like Jack’s Mountie uniform, the useful men in boots and all the lovely horses, but the strong female friendships and community support are good too. Wink

MindTheMinotaur · 11/08/2019 22:18

Come along educating. Let's get matching tweedy excavation outfits and thermos flasks. I bet we turn up a labrys and a few goddess figurines in a temple complex in the south west corner. We'll have to spend a lot of time in deck chairs debating matriarchies after that! Perhaps Max Dashu will visit and do a slideshow and then fall in love with the place and move in.

EducatingArti · 12/08/2019 20:08

Ooh. I love a good temple complex. Can we have some cremation burials nearby too? Tweedy excavation outfits sound fun!

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 12/08/2019 21:09

Jack is so handsome isn't he, everyone seems to fancy him haha. I must confess that I am not so keen on Elizabeth, I find her very cringeworthy, I think because she started off as this gawky clueless out of town spoilt teacher and then they tried to say she was this great beauty that the whole town including Jack loved. I kind of feel the actress was miscast, she doesn't fit the role well in my view but I am also probably jealous since Jack is not only kind but also attractive.

I'd like Badley to have a nice sewing shop like Hope Valley, I volunteer as seamstress to make us all fabulous outfits.

Do we have a tea shop yet?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2021 22:24

Do we have a tea shop yet?

Of course. Today's special appears to be malt loaf.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 03/03/2021 22:44

Yes - there's a run on the fresh malt loaf so while the rest is ageing I shall be baking tomorrow. It's a gluten-free run of biscuit batches so there's as little cross-contamination as possible.

I have aged fruit cake for anyone wanting to pack a snap tin for hillwalking.

TwistedEyeOfHorus · 03/03/2021 23:22

Age is only a number... you could always identify as older....

DeaconBoo · 03/03/2021 23:27

I was going to comment that Badley Fuckitt seems untouched by c*vid!

boatyardblues · 04/03/2021 00:09

Lovely to see Badley Fuckitt back on the front page of FWR. The way I picture it, it is firmly out of my area so I can’t visit just now. If the portal in the biscuit aisle of Tescos is still active, I could use that to circumvent the local police checks and drop by.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 00:12

Portals stay open forever, and occasionally new ones appear.Grin

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/03/2021 22:13

Grumbling a bit as portals seem to have opened between certain areas that one might wish had stayed closed - much as that parallels certain Stargate or Star Trek stories.

But, BF and the Bluestocking are our own Room/Community of Requirement - today's gluten-free biscuits to stock up various snack spots were: buckwheat crackers; cheese, coconut, pistachio, 2 types of almond, pecan, and walnut.

Olderstyle1 · 04/03/2021 22:27

I've put on so much weight during lockdown I'm a bit concerned that I'd get stuck in the portal like Winnie the Pooh in Rabbit's house and screw things up for everybody.

But oh how I long for the verdant pastures, gingham pinafores and clotted cream of my Badley Fuckitt imaginings.

Manderleyagain · 04/03/2021 22:34

Oh I'm glad to see this village retreat back. I had forgotten its name so would never have found it in advanced search. Doomed to wondering the hills forever looking for Morton cum Blobby, or Frigg in Marsh or somewhere.
