That's where I want to live right now. Home of the Bluestocking pub and the Shady Pines, the favoured retirement home of gin-swilling, cantankerous elderly gender crit feminists. It's like that village in the Dales which dodged the bubonic plague and is a haven from PoMo fuckwittery. Anyone else in?

I'm a scientist by training. Just not in practice. I'm like the theoretical physicist of the botanical world though... used to know lots about plants but by gods don't actually let me near a live one. Not much practical use really.

Melamin · 30/11/2018 22:24

I have an ology in grass counting - never used it - realised I had missed my vocation when they got the plate meter out on the ruddy Archers.

boatyardblues · 30/11/2018 22:33

Isn’t that strictly an -any, Melamin?

Not sure what you mean there. If it is the archers, it is a sam.

Melamin · 30/11/2018 22:50

ah got it Agrian. No, it is an ology - just lots of counting involved- in my case grass, ( or fish, or bacteria or insects, …………………)

Fantata · 30/11/2018 22:51

Ahem. I don't like to boast, but thought I should mention - only in case it's helpful, you understand - that I have the gold lifesaving award.

Spottycake · 30/11/2018 22:54

I used to collect wild grasses. I got so good at it that when I walked through a field, I could tell if I had a particular grass in my collection.

Not a scientist though. Women’s history is my thing. If you want someone to come and give a talk at the cafe on that, my charge is a cup of cocoa and a Nice biscuit.

WrathofbubonicKlop · 30/11/2018 22:59

Ooh fantata
Gold
I am very jealous impressed.

You shall be chief lifeguard.

WrathofbubonicKlop · 30/11/2018 23:02

But who am I to decide. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 30/11/2018 23:12

Women’s history is my thing. If you want someone to come and give a talk at the cafe

Seriously, you should.

BubonicTheHedgehag · 30/11/2018 23:39

I would really love to learn about solid diy home maintenance skills and proper painting and decorating!

UpstartCrow · 30/11/2018 23:48

WrathofbubonicKlop First thing fantata will need to do is resuscitate that pink octopus/jellyfish thing.

silentcrow · 01/12/2018 00:01

Scientist by training but not profession. With a little revision I can work PCR and sequencing machines and the like. But I'm a librarian now so I can both order your journals and recommend a bedtime story for you or your little one. Smile

I shan't partake of the pool - too warm - but I'm happy to lifeguard from a kayak for those who want to sample the delights of outdoor swimming. In the moat, if we're still having one? Or get you started in karate, if you prefer. Or basic weaponry - I have studied broadsword, foil, pistols and longbows over the years. I like to think I've got a slight chance of survival in a zombie apocalypse...Grin

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 01/12/2018 00:04

I used to be quite handy with power tools but am now far too doddery to climb stepladders, still got a good hoard of tools to bring along and share though.
If I can bring the greenhouse I'll gladly raise all the plants for the hanging baskets from seed. As well as the vital ingredient for some excellent herbal remedies, for those among us who are getting a bit stiff and creaky.
My sole remaining skill is nodding off sitting very still for long periods of time on park benches, then jerking awake and startling tourists who have wandered over to check if I am still breathing. Every community should have one of those.

Any chance of a kayaking lesson?

ChattyLion · 01/12/2018 06:58

Ooh I would love a kayak about. Me too please!

WrathofbubonicKlop · 01/12/2018 09:42

Upstart
Resuscitate that pink octopus/jellyfish thing
I'll bring one to the lifeguards training course to practise on.
Fantata can show us the basics.

Silent
Kayaking and broadsword together will be very useful,
I'm sure.

Bowlofbabelfish · 01/12/2018 10:06

Oh gosh I’m not high up at all! I’m a middle ranking employee :D not even in the lab anymore, I just boss people around to Get Shit Done in the world of drug development. I am honestly not in any way important in the world of science.

And at the moment my main duty is feeding a three year old apple slices in front of paw patrol while attempting to get his brother to sleep, so hardly Earth shattering stuff...

Bowlofbabelfish · 01/12/2018 10:06

I’m also up for kayaking and learning to shoot a bow...

UpstartCrow · 01/12/2018 10:09

I can sex rabbits

WrathofbubonicKlop · 01/12/2018 10:12

But you are sooo interesting Bowl.
And you get shit done too.
Swoons

WrathofbubonicKlop · 01/12/2018 10:16

Looks like we have plenty of interest here to go on a exciting kayaking expedition.
Beginners can practice on the moat.

Bowlofbabelfish · 01/12/2018 10:18

Blush you’re all lovely.

Floisme · 01/12/2018 10:34

Just popped back in case any more metropolitan types had turned up but I see not. What is it with feminism and wanting to live in the middle of nowhere?

boatyardblues · 01/12/2018 10:49

Flo - We set you up with a portal so you can slip between world, living your busy metropolitan life by day & nipping to Badley Fuckitt for a couple of hours’ consciousness raising in the evening in the Bluestocking or a kayaking/broadsword/crossbow/JCB lesson at the weekend. It also works the other way, so we can access galleries and mainstream culture when we feel the need.
