Is this the week they're doing a lot of stuff on gender? Anyway, saw a tweet earlier from Professor Stock that she is on WH this morning. Don't know what time. Should be worth a listen. She is so clear and cogent.

Jenni doing a fab job here.

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2018 10:17

Why do we lose realness and supposed privilege when men give not an inch

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2018 10:17

Jenni is great

Melamin · 19/11/2018 10:17

transmen? hmm silence hmm...………………..

OrchidInTheSun · 19/11/2018 10:17

I bet Garvey has been wanting to do this topic for ages

OrchidInTheSun · 19/11/2018 10:17

It's Jane, not Jenni

AbsintheFriends · 19/11/2018 10:18

'Quality and tone' of current debate on tomorrow's programme. Yikes.

AornisHades · 19/11/2018 10:18

Jane cut that off nicely at the end.

AdultHumanFemale · 19/11/2018 10:18

Go, Dr Stock! Clear and to the point. "To keep repeating TWAW will not get us anywhere."

Melamin · 19/11/2018 10:19

"To keep repeating TWAW will not get us anywhere."

^^^ THIS

AbsintheFriends · 19/11/2018 10:19

And lesbians! Hurrah - WH woefully late to the party, but thank god they've arrived now at least.

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2018 10:19

Jane then, she did well
At least she speaks clearly and understands people need simplicity

Melamin · 19/11/2018 10:20

Brexit = calmer waters LOL Grin

StandingOvulation · 19/11/2018 10:21

Well I know which side triumphed there.
Huzzah to clarity from Prof Stock.

Melamin · 19/11/2018 10:21

At least she speaks clearly and understands people need simplicity

This is so true it is so good to have someone trying to clarify what is going on rather than shrugging 'its the way forward' like humphrys.

catsnoozing · 19/11/2018 10:21

Well I enjoyed that! Well done Dr Stock!

lucydogz · 19/11/2018 10:22

Well that was amazing. Sally Hines given a shovel and plenty of time to dig herself a hole. Kathleen Stock fantastic. And I don't think there's any doubt of where Jane Garvey's sympathies lie.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/11/2018 10:22

Yes bugger sorry Jane G! You did a great job :-)

Melamin · 19/11/2018 10:25

And I don't think there's any doubt of where Jane Garvey's sympathies lie.

On the side of clarity and open discourse. Not shady backroom deals.

senua · 19/11/2018 10:26

Oh that was good.
Was a fantastic move to let Sally start - absolute batshitness which would make most non-specialists think "what on earth is she on about".

I loved how she kept on saying "some scientists say" without quoting (or even being quite sure what it was she was talking about). She might as well have said "my mate down the pub says".

KatVonGulag · 19/11/2018 10:27

I've always loved Jane. I used to listen to her on five live all the time. I'm sure I heard and exasperated noise from her there.

Well done Kathleen for your clarity and bravery.

AornisHades · 19/11/2018 10:28

I have no idea who Sally Hines is and obviously I agree with Dr Stock, but Hines' delivery was intensely annoying. Every other word was 'um' or 'OK?'.

Lumisade · 19/11/2018 10:28

Is it just me or did Sally Hines come across as being a bit, well, barmy?

MsMcWoodle · 19/11/2018 10:28

How dare she call Kathleen 'cis'. Blatant misgendering.

Socrates11 · 19/11/2018 10:30

Oh dear. Hines flying the flag for men on Women's Hour. Totally ignoring the place/experiences of women unless transwomen are included or as a prop... and butting in on Stock every single time. Show some respect when people are talking, listen, respond to points made with something better than "I disagree" then changing the topic... and stop talking over people ffs.

Why are transwomen seen as more of a threat than transmen? Why is that? Hines needs to really think about this one as it might make all the damn difference. Once you've taken away "perceptions of realness" how can male violence be named?

Presenter says next time looking at quality and tone of debate. Hmmm a bit of reflection on what just happened wouldn't go amiss.
