Is this the week they're doing a lot of stuff on gender? Anyway, saw a tweet earlier from Professor Stock that she is on WH this morning. Don't know what time. Should be worth a listen. She is so clear and cogent.

The thing you have to remember about the intersex narrative is that we have been hearing and refuting it for ages, so it has no traction at all anymore. As the debate actually starts trickling out of the soundproofing, it's going to hit a lot of people who have never heard of any of it, and the AWAs will go for their strongest arguments first.

The intersex argument gets traction initially because DSDs are a real, demonstrable, scientific thing, and the parasitic AWA ideology just piggybacks on all those creds, and it works for those who aren't looking too closely.

So, you know, back to the trenches to deal with the fresh subterfuge and hopefully the wider public will be up to speed eventually.

The amazing Dr Jane Clare Jones has also transcripted yesterday's discussion

Thanks - enjoyed that. I like reading Dr Jane Clare Jones on Twitter.

I could listen to Prof Stock over and over all day Smile

Just 'listened again'
It's awful. And I mean toe-curlingly bad.

I was wincing for that Hines woman as she quite desperately tried to force out the approved party lines, time after time. I swear she realised how ridiculous she sounded as there wasn't really any conviction in her words.

I am left wondering what she will do when she is turned on and thrown out of the TRA inner circle for some slight or other. It'll happen, course it will. Then where will she be?

It won't matter to her, unless she loses her job as the transgenderism professor at Leeds, which is unlikely to happen if you look at the amount of research funding she has managed to secure for her department. She is a veteran of this movement and represents the credible end of the spectrum - I can't imagine they will turn against her.

ShotsFired · 20/11/2018 16:56

But she's a woman, therefore disposable. They'll have no use for her at some point - either through being "wronged" in some ever-more-fanciful way; or just getting a better offer from a higher profile person for their purposes.

ShotsFired · 20/11/2018 16:59

On a related note, anyone noticed just how quiet little owen jones has been recently? I looked him up yesterday and all his recent stuff is brexit/political. Not a single trans word.

For someone so vocally vituperative for so long, he seems lost for words.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/11/2018 17:01

Most academics look to have a body of work to leave behind that people will marvel over - not piss themselves laughing

LikeDust · 20/11/2018 17:41

Interesting. I wonder if it's because more people with penises are objecting these days rather than a load of worthless despicable cunty people.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/11/2018 17:46

Maybe his mummy finally gave him a clip around the ear.

BitOfFun · 20/11/2018 17:52

Leeds- it's always Leeds, isn't it? Something in the water?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/11/2018 17:59

Anyone from Leeds care to enlighten us?

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 20/11/2018 19:09

Not a clue sorry. There are plenty of GC people here too.

BitOfFun · 20/11/2018 19:54

I've just read your link to the demolition of Cargo Science, Bitter- really excellent.

BlackForestCake · 20/11/2018 20:38

Worth reading Richard Feynman's demolition job on the social sciences - cargo cult science. 44 years ago and all those problems still seem to be there.

I've read this and he doesn’t demolish the social sciences in the slightest. He is criticising compromised and poor science of any discipline.

R0wantrees · 20/11/2018 20:42

Leeds- it's always Leeds, isn't it? Something in the water?

& Manchester, Liverpool.

M62 eh?

BitOfFun · 20/11/2018 21:54

True! I am ASHAMED of Liverpool council. But proud of the Resisters.

Bloomini · 20/11/2018 22:35

I'm quite new to this debate and have been learning loads from this forum so thank you all. It has been a steep learning curve.

Listened to this programme today, I don't think I'd have followed or understood it if I hadn't been reading up on here. I also cannot believe that Hines is not only a professor but one who has received a lot of funding from ESRC. What I'd like to know is...who sat on that peer review panel? It is disgraceful that public money is being spent in this wayShock

drspouse · 21/11/2018 11:53

I heard this and Tuesday's. Is there a segment today (Weds) or is it just as and when?

R0wantrees · 21/11/2018 12:11

Today's Woman's Hour:
The great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst on the campaign to get more women into parliament
Woman's Hour

'Hundreds of women from all over the country have been invited by their MP to Westminster today to mark the centenary of the Parliament (Qualification of Women) Act passed on 21 November 1918 which gave all women over the age of 21 the right to run for political office for the first time. Helen Pankhurst the great-granddaughter of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst talks to Jenni about the importance of women taking up public office.

One of the victims of the so called “black cab rapist”, John Worboys, has described the impact that getting justice has had on her. The woman, who can only be known as DSD, says she’s unable to leave her house and her marriage has broken up as a consequence. We discuss the toll this kind of experience has on the victims of sexual violence as well as the effectiveness of the Victim Contact Service.

The fifth edition of the Women’s Atlas has been published showing in charts and infographics the status of women around the world. Its author, the geographer Joni Seager, Professor and Chair of Global Studies at Bentley University in Boston talks about the advances that have been made and the key issues still to be tackled.

And we celebrate the work of playwright, Caryl Churchill’s as she celebrates her 80th Birthday. What’s been the impact of her exploration of sexual politics & feminism over more than 50 years?'

Its all about sex and gender

Bittermints · 21/11/2018 12:27

You're right, BlackForestCake, and I'm sure the problem of poor research design and lack of rigour does exist in pure and applied science. It does seem a big problem in the social sciences, though.

That's interesting R0wantrees. Especially after yesterday's piece on periods.

Important to be aware of the debate held in Westminster Hall today and the contributions from some female MPs whilst it seems David Davies MP was alone in speaking up for women's rights (adult human females)
