Gather LM is saying that they had to give up the previous post because they left the area (to go to Goldsmiths) but they're now standing for the women's officer post in Lewisham Deptford CLP. Voting is on Sunday, apparently.

MsMcWoodle, yes, what a delight that young woman must be. Can't remember if those tweets were on this thread or another one, but the more the merrier - they deserve a lot of attention.

RiverTam · 24/10/2018 21:59

Stupid, stupid little girl. I hope her parents are thoroughly ashamed of her, if I saw DD doing something like this I would go ballistic.

FekkoTheLawyer · 24/10/2018 22:00

Oh. I thought Ellen was a Lily girl. This screen really is tiny.

RiverTam · 24/10/2018 22:03

No, she’s a girl. Well, a woman, but behaving so atrociously she may as well be a child.

This is what Corbyn has spawned.

MsMcWoodle · 24/10/2018 22:08

Tiger - Sorry don't have time to keep up but I am getting a nice library of screen shots. They do bear repeating though.

OlennasWimple · 24/10/2018 22:23

The problem is that Gill has been doing the boring, old fashioned women's work, dealing with new mums who may have a touch of PND and swollen sore boobs and vaginas; and raising money through hard graft to ensure that vital facilities and services for the community are not removed. LM deals with new women, who pose in their bra to give a running commentary on the size of their breasts and have a GoFundMe begging bowl on their FB profile

FekkoTheLawyer · 24/10/2018 22:31

A bit of light relief. It's not a joke.

I'm no fan of the Tories, but if they had a member behaving like that Facebook girl, their own members would be criticizing them . But with Labour, they have this odd cult-like mantra. It's creepy.

FekkoTheLawyer · 24/10/2018 22:43

Labour has definitely lost the plot. I wonder if they will wake up before they need to change their name ('labour' being something that the blue haired boys will never experience in either sense of the word - and we dont want to upset them)

JustABrokenDoll · 24/10/2018 22:58

@FekkoTheLawyer

Would that be the same Truth To Power Cafe that caved into pressure from a couple of trans activists and no-platformed Julie Bindel?

Well I do believe it is Smile

dolorsit · 24/10/2018 23:01

Spots labour members are complaining and being threatened with compliance, having their tweets deleted and some have left the party.

Ereshkigal · 25/10/2018 00:11

I notice that whilst they aren’t prepared to support Gill, they’re happy to use the centre she saved for their LGBTfuckingwhateveralphabetsoup and women’s group meetings. What a kick in the teeth for her.

Yes I noticed that too. It was also where the WNTT meeting was going to be that ended up at Speakers Corner, incidentally.

Ereshkigal · 25/10/2018 00:15

Is Labour desperate to have the first trans MP?

Yes I think so, but with Lily at least they're barking up the wrong tree. Lily can't cope with public life very well already and isn't cut out for it at all.

BettyDuMonde · 25/10/2018 00:42

Gill looks to be an excellent candidate with tons of relevant experience and I will be very surprised if someone so new to the CLP is elected instead. My MP is prone to saying a few carefully chosen words to direct votes towards her preferred candidates, I’m sure the MP for Lew&Dept will have similar techniques of her own. She’s likely been campaigning alongside Gill for a decade or more.

In the world of CLP internal elections, candidates are judged by numbers of doors knocked and leaflets delivered, not number of twitter followers.
As far as I can tell Lewisham & Deptford organise under the delegate system, and established members don’t fritter away their chances to become/stay delegates.

FekkoTheLawyer · 25/10/2018 07:55

So, almost 40 years since we had our first (tory) woman PM, Labour are catching up by desperately pushing... Trans women to the front.

Is this because they can't quite bring themselves to back women?

Why not push to get more disabled people into politics?

Why push so hard for a tiny minority of a minority who have zero life experience (apart from 'being trans', or not, or maybe) who are little interested in anything else, have done nothing 'political' that I can see beyond push their oven narrative, and are just not emotionally or mentally strong enough to do the job?

Does anyone know?

FuriousOfSurrey · 25/10/2018 08:12

I wrote to my local Labour Party last week to tell them they have permanently lost my vote over this issue (have voted Labour since 1979 in my constituency which is true blue Conservative territory). Never again. I can't see someone who can't stay in the same room as someone with an opposing opinion because they don't feel safe doing well in the House of Commons! It amazes me. Gordon Brown totally fuck ed up his career for calling ONE opinionated woman a bigot but they are writing off 50% of their voters potentially as transphobes.

sorenipples · 25/10/2018 08:13

If I try and think too hard I come to the conclusion that momentum is backed by Russians or some other agency trying to destabilise the country, or maybe keep the tories in power indefinitely.

No I don't actually believe that, but I can't come up with any other coherent explanation. It's one thing to believe that women were oppressed by gender identity not sex, but another to refuse those with an alternative view the opportunity to openly express it.

Women's issues aside , loosely following lily has exposed me to how momentum operate within labour. Do they have their own published manifesto? It would feel far more transparent if they openly stood as their own party.

hackmum · 25/10/2018 09:05

Lily is going to be very busy with all these different roles. Shouldn't she be concentrating on her studies? I imagine that undergraduate work, when you only have two A-levels, is quite demanding. Even at Goldsmiths.

JoanSummers · 25/10/2018 09:08

Look at the blatant tell in this video at 1:30

mobile.twitter.com/LilyMadigan99/status/1054672481473253376/video/1

Dupers delight.

Notice there is also a cut in the edit there. Maybe the tell was too obvious on earlier takes.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/10/2018 09:26

I think Momentum is run by 100% British smug arseholes.

JoanSummers · 25/10/2018 09:35

Also, remember James Morton's advice to TRAs:

to gain trust in the local community- and to approach moderate feminists, “correct misconceptions and forgive any ignorance they may have displayed”. They want to gain trust and make themselves likeable.

Apparently small acts like helping to campaign about period poverty or retweeting the local branch of Women’s Aid will make a difference and result in some reciprocation. They want to make it look like they care about Women's issues so they don’t appear threatening.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3398737-We-re-Still-Here-Conference-8th-September-A-report-from-the-inside

So Madigan complies with possibly the laziest attempt Madigan can manage, taking a picture of Madiganself with a bit of black pen on their hand to show they "say no to period poverty". Follows that up by making it one of their campaigning points in this video.

But in the comments of the tweet sharing the video, a couple of local orgs actually working with period poverty show up and it is clear Madigan has had no contact with them at all:

Great to hear your proactive plans to tackle #periodpoverty, @LilyMadigan99. Do check out our Period Friendly Point @DeptfordLounge and @redboxselondon. Please share our details with the schools you've mentioned. Best of luck in your elections!

And

Red Box Project SE London
@redboxselondon
Thank you @PFPDeptford We’d love to talk to you about tackling period poverty in schools in Lewisham @LilyMadigan99**

Then when asked by another tweeter how they can join Madigan's "No to period poverty" campaign, Madigan makes it clear they have no campaign, "just a photo", but does one of those advised 'solidarity building' name drops:

LilyMadigan
@LilyMadigan99
Hi Thea! It’s just a photo to try and raise awareness. See if you have a @RedBoxProject near you; they do great work tackling period poverty.

This whole video and tweet thread is evidence of the TRA plan to fake interest in women's issues. No work here - lip service and marker pen is all a male needs to become a figurehead on a women's issue.

I fully expect the Guardian or Pink News or some other TRA mouthpiece to do an article on period poverty in the next few weeks or so and use Madigan as an 'expert source'.

Ilivethere - that's a really lovely tribute to Jill.

I.cant.even... with ALL this BS.

But wrt period poverty. I am clearly a massive pride because I don't want to EVER have to tell a man face to face that I've folded up toilet roll from public toilets to use as sanitary protection. It's person and embarrassing.

smeerf · 25/10/2018 09:47

@whitershadeofpale @ilivethere I will be there on Sunday, I'll have my baby in a sling and accompanied by my 60 year old mum who is also a CLP member. Feel free to say hi!

Maybe we should make little FWR badges to identify ourselves on occasions like this.

waterlego6064 · 25/10/2018 09:52

This is so infuriating!

Gill sounds absolutely wonderful and exactly the right sort of person for the role. I will be appalled if she loses out to Lily.

From the FB comments: ‘very few issues that pertain directly to having a womb, vagina or ovaries’

I replied to this to say that actually, biology is central to many feminist issues: FGM, period poverty, rape and sexual assault, contraception, pregnancy, abortion, birth, menopause etc etc

Promptly deleted, obviously. Asking a potential WOMEN’S OFFICER about women’s issues is apparently not on.
