Gather LM is saying that they had to give up the previous post because they left the area (to go to Goldsmiths) but they're now standing for the women's officer post in Lewisham Deptford CLP. Voting is on Sunday, apparently.

I feel sorry for Lily. And Aimee. And all the very young ones really. They are being manipulated by someone.

BettyDuMonde · 25/10/2018 18:34

Excellent! Thank you, Whitershadeofpale

In other news, LM is Goldsmiths Labour Women’s Officer because LM ran unopposed.

Surely LM’s first job as WO should be to investigate why there are no female Goldsmiths students running for this position and what can be done to mitigate the conditions that make it difficult for women to take up these positions - ie, is a commitment to caring for children/elderly parents that make evening meetings difficult to attend? Are the meetings held at a venue that is easy and safe to access for women who are arriving/leaving alone? Do female students at Goldsmiths think labour is relevant to their circumstances? Does the party have a poor reputation amongst women students locally or nationally?

That kind of thing.

If anyone wants to come and say hello. Then I’ll be wearing a bright pink coat and be alone.

GiantKitten · 25/10/2018 21:37

Lily’s delivery did not feel impassioned. It sounded like someone reading from a cue.

They were, definitely. The video has all the giveaway pauses and looking just off camera.

I haven’t watched the whole thing but in the bits I did watch I thought it cut after every sentence? As if it was entirely scripted but Lily can only memorise one sentence at a time.

sorenipples · 25/10/2018 22:11

Lily's ability to deliver a one take campaign speech is not relevant to her ability to be a CLP officer. And I'm sure she can have media training before being PM ;)

Her tweets provide plenty of ammunition without needing to be petty.

I found it very ominous that apparently labour doesn't allow transphobes, so no woman stood against her.

Momentum supporting Lily for another women's role suggests that her views and actions (terf hunter general) are endorsed. Is there an official statement on this? Is compliance actually removing people? Are you officially not welcome in Labour if you think Woman and associated provisions is a matter of immutable biological sex not identity? Can we get an official statement?

IKeepFlouncing · 25/10/2018 22:52

I did too BertandRussell a while back as clearly obvious something not right, I mean the belief of being able to get pregnant! But the pure vile nastyness is of their own choice. My children come from ‘broke home’ with all the usual typical stereotype that come with that, that doesn’t give them excuse to be arseholes with chip on their shoulders. not that I’d even allow it

L.M like rest of them will allow Gill to be abused insulted and harassed not the type to say hold on this is wrong.

AugustL · 26/10/2018 05:01

Didn't know whether to make a new thread.

What's the truth Lily? Tweets stating she has a GNC, VS recent tweets suggesting she doesn't have a GNC, in an appeal to people to fill the consultation to change the GRA.

Also 1. Can already get married, without self-ID 2. Does not cost a lot. £140 . 3. BIG ONE. claims getting a GRC "requires me to irreversibly alter my body" wow. Not true at all. You don't have to change a single thing about your body to get one. It's explicitly stated. I've seen another person claim this. It's a flat out manipulative lie. Who has been telling people this? If people have completed the consultation in favour of self-ID based on this lie... Smh ...

BettyDuMonde goldsmiths female Labour students will have let Lily run unopposed because of who she is and because she's trans. Weird though those tweets look like she's saying she ran unopposed because the others who wanted to run were "terfs" and they're not allowed.

Dragon3 · 26/10/2018 08:40

AugustL those tweets show somebody with a shaky grasp on reality and make me wonder whether Lily is okay. It is impossible that somebody so deeply into trans culture wouldn't know the actual law WRT trans issues.

There was a recent case where a TW applied again and again for a GRC and got it in the end (can't remember who, one of the convicted offenders. It was discussed on FWR). So right of appeal does exist in some form.

OlennasWimple · 26/10/2018 17:26

So does LM have a GRC (can stand for All Women Shortlist selection) or not? LM isn't clear themselves, apparently.... I'd think not, given the need to provide evidence of two years "living as a woman" and we all know - because it has been shared online - that things like a new passport have only recently been acquired.

The marriage point is interesting, though. A self-IDed transwoman can get married, just not using their preferred gender on the paperwork (or is marriage paperwork sex based? I don't actually know) So our hypothetical transwoman has two options 1) get married as a man and then transition (spousal veto comes into play, though it'd surely be slightly odd to agree to marry someone who was already IDing as female and presumably wants to walk down the aisle in a white dress, then object to them applying for a GRC?). 2) Get legal paperwork sorted and then marry in a same sex (gender?) ceremony. 3) Don't get married. 4) Get married but not apply for a GRC

QuietContraryMary · 26/10/2018 19:51

L does not have a GRC, because they are expensive. Said so on Twitter.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 26/10/2018 20:31

But lily has a GRC, because they are female. They said so on twitter.
Wink

RedToothBrush · 26/10/2018 20:48

Lily has / hasn't got a Grc depending on whichever suit the purpose of the moment. Lily has an aversion to the truth and will make a very good politician.

ChiaraRimini · 26/10/2018 22:24

I'm not sure there's much read across from the skillset of professional victim to elected politician. You need to have the hide of a rhino to withstand the crap that's thrown at you in standing for public office.

JustABrokenDoll · 26/10/2018 22:42

Lily does, and yet doesn't, have a GRC.

As RedToothBrush said, Lily changes the narrative depending on what reaction Lily wants from their adoring public.

I think it also serves Lily in some ways when some of the public react badly to what Lily tweets.

Its pretty clear that collecting negative responses brings some political capital.

JustABrokenDoll · 26/10/2018 23:15

Its pretty clear that collecting negative responses brings some political capital.

Definitely. Lewisham Momentum are going on about Lily being brave and stunning in the face of 'dreadful transphobia' as part of their Vote Lily campaign.

Straight from the trump playbook

Schroedinger's GRC?

Extraodinary piece of 'reporting' here in 'This Is Local London'
'Labour row after transgender woman Lily Madigan stands for women's officer in Deptford'
By Bridie Witton
(extract)
Ms Madigan, 20, is backed by Momentum, a grass roots movement supportive of Jeremy Corbyn.

The Goldsmiths University student is campaigning on a platform of “socialism and sisterhood” but in a Facebook post, Lewisham Momentum described “animosity and factionalism” between party members as a result of Ms Madigan’s standing.

The post describes “unprincipled manoeuvres” of “others on the left.”
"But Ms Madigan said she had a lot of support, “especially from local women, which is lovely, and I wouldn’t be running in the first place if I hadn’t be asked to stand by local members.

"The people commenting don’t care about my age or my local experience; and just because I’m young doesn’t mean I have less to offer politically," she said.

Ms Madigan became the target of online abuse when she became Labour’s first transgender women’s officer aged 19, in Kent.

Commenting on the recent abuse she received, which she said occurred mostly online and appeared to be from accounts linked to the far right and based in America, she added: “If people have a problem with me representing women then they are welcome to not vote for me but I don’t think that’s a genuine opinion among local Labour members.

“I’m running on a platform of socialism and sisterhood and I want to tackle issues that impact most women in our community – whether that’s tackling period poverty in our schools or training our members to effectively challenge the horrid culture of sexual harassment.

“I may be trans but I’m not just here for trans women,” she added.

In a Twitter post, Lewisham Cllr Aisling Gallagher voiced her support of Ms Madigan.

She wrote: “Solidarity and love to Labour sister LilyMadigan99 who is having to deal with a torrent of vile abuse for daring to stand to be Women’s Officer in a Lewisham CLP. Trans women are women, f* trans-exclusionary radical feminists, no room for transphobia in the labour movement.” (continues)

That article is the first time I have seen lily's actions against her school described as seeking legal advice rather than suing. Given that the only action taken appears to have been a solicitor's letter, this seems far more accurate.

VickyEadie · 27/10/2018 09:53

“I’m running on a platform of socialism and sisterhood and I want to tackle issues that impact most women in our community – whether that’s tackling period poverty in our schools or training our members to effectively challenge the horrid culture of sexual harassment."

Always interesting to see the only things Lily can think of that affect women, isn't it?

FeminaSum · 27/10/2018 09:53

Aisling Gallagher's comment is shocking. It's the sort of thing I'd expect from an 18-year-old getting involved in student politics and not knowing how to express their views appropriately. Not an elected councillor.

As for Lily, Lily seems to enjoy making absolutely ridiculous comments on Twitter. If Lily isn't an MRA troll, Lily is certainly a gift to them.

Another one for the book then.

I know Lily is a bit lacking in the brain region, but has Lily ever been asked to explain this 'Some transwomen are XX' comment?
