At the top of this evening's PM programme they've trailed 'live debate' about the Stonewall petition.

Does anyone know who's on?

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/10/2018 18:22

On R4 news now! Jonny again.

Hornets · 04/10/2018 18:23

Oooh they're just reporting on the petition and Times letter on radio 4 six o'clock news!

ChiaraRimini · 04/10/2018 18:25

Just been reported again on R4 6 o'clock news. AT LAST!!!

Charliethefeminist · 04/10/2018 18:25

Wow

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 04/10/2018 18:27

Twisted

"Oh yes; we have no power". Her pants are on fire

Beamur · 04/10/2018 18:27

Very good clear reporting and lots of mentions of the consultation.

Starkstaring · 04/10/2018 18:27

The news article just on - finally - although it implied that the debate was about transgender people's "right to exist", which of course it is not.

Beamur · 04/10/2018 18:27

Interesting how RH was downplaying the role of Stonewall.

Charliethefeminist · 04/10/2018 18:28

What did they do on the r4 six? Reporter or just newsreader

TimeLady · 04/10/2018 18:31

A gay man discussing women's rights is being listened to by the BBC.

You were great, Jonny, I heard you live, but the BBC really are beneath contempt on this issue.

thatdamnwoman · 04/10/2018 18:34

You can email Carolyn Quinn and PM here:

[email protected]

The only thing the BBC responds to is pressure so make it clear how you felt about that interview. I'm sure the TRAs will.

failingatlife · 04/10/2018 18:35

Johnny Best was amazing. Great how he got his point across about people contacting him who are scared of losing their jobs. Including people who work at the BBC. He managed to get so much in in a short time. The interviewer was fab too!

TwistedStitch · 04/10/2018 18:36

I wish they had asked RH if men can be lesbians.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 04/10/2018 18:38

Johnny Best was fantastic.
This feels a game changer that we knew was needed: gay people challenging stonewall.
That's why it's now on the BBC.

Ruth hunts position was weak: 'we don't host the debate'.
No, but you do stand quietly by while TRAs intimidate women.

Johnny's point about academics losing posts and people in the BBC bring scared to speak out, should start to bring all the free speechers onboard, who hadn't been listening when it just seemed like a spat between feminists and TRAs.
People are being alerted to the oppressive nature of the trans ideology, and I think that's going to be the thing that changes this.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 04/10/2018 18:46

I've emailed pm said how good Caroline Quinn was at persisting in trying to get to the heart of the issue, and asking them to give more time to explore why women's rights are under threat.

cheminotte · 04/10/2018 18:47

Well done Caroline Quinn. She was fantastic.
Just listened to it on iPlayer radio - from 45 mins.

ChiaraRimini · 04/10/2018 18:50

Johnny Best was amazing but it is sad that we need a man to stand up for women's rights against -Aunt- -Lydia- a woman

TerfedOff · 04/10/2018 18:52

Was it definitely Carolyn Quinn? Somebody has suggested it was Sarah Montague on Twitter just wanted to make sure before I email

Saying transwomen are women is like saying 2+2=fish

It is.

But the reason - the other reason apart from the obvious, I mean - that a gay man, who has specifically been involved in activism and gay arts events, speaking out is effective is because of its impact on the cognitive dissonance that's at play here. It makes it harder for people to lazily decide on which "side" to pick based on one of them being Stonewall-the-great-and-good-for-gay-rights. Because he is exactly the type of person your average listener thinks Stonewall stands for.

It shakes up people's complacency about what they are hearing. It makes them more likely to have to question themselves,

Datun · 04/10/2018 19:05

I missed it. I'll have to do catch up. Brilliant Johnny spoke.

I know what women are saying. Why should a man be more credible. It fucking sucks, but it's true.

On another note, apparently the University of Art in London has teamed up with Vice to help demolish women's rights (fucking vice!)

On 9 October 2018, UAL will co-host Recognise Me: an open drop-in event that encourages all UAL students, staff and supporters to respond to the open government consultation calling for public views on how to reform the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

In an LGBQT government survey, the transgender community reported having to endure a costly, intrusive and lengthy process to ‘prove’ their gender identity in order to get legal recognition. In response, the government seeks public opinion on whether that process should be made easier and more streamlined.

This act of deceit that it's all about trans-people, with no impact on anyone else, is bringing me out in hives.

Badstyley · 04/10/2018 19:22

It sounds like Johnny was excellent, but man does it boil my piss that it takes a man speaking out to get so much as 5 minutes off the BBC.

I tried about three times to convey how much visceral hatred I have for Ruth Hunt without sounding like I’d like to crush her but I’ve failed, so I’d better leave it at that. This dyke is very angry.

Latinista · 04/10/2018 19:38

Good point Sonic and Terfed re lesbians. Ruth was adamant to portray Stonewall as supporting the rights of LGBTQetc but she is clearly throwing the Ls under the bus.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/10/2018 19:47

yup

thanks Jonny Flowers, I know it's not your fault that you're being listened to, and you came across fabulously

but fucking hell the beeb - what is wrong with you?

it got on the 6 o clock news though. this is serious progress
