At the top of this evening's PM programme they've trailed 'live debate' about the Stonewall petition.

Does anyone know who's on?

She's saying nothing in lots of words.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2018 17:53

She’s saying the old ‘both sides are nasty’ etc

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/10/2018 17:54

Presenter doing a good job.

Somerville · 04/10/2018 17:54

“Vitriol on... all sorts of sides.”
She stopped herself saying “both sides”.

silentcrow · 04/10/2018 17:54

"See how I wash my hands of the naughty people" is all she's saying.

heresyandwitchcraft · 04/10/2018 17:54

Oh Ruth. This is nonsense.

Somerville · 04/10/2018 17:54

Yes excellent interviewer, Bore, I agree.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2018 17:54

Vitriol and hatred against tg is unprecedented.

She’s saying stonewall don’t debate we just protect.

PyeWackets · 04/10/2018 17:55

Stonewall are also supposed to speak for Lesbians, and they don't. they support policies that harm them.

Somerville · 04/10/2018 17:55

Nice plug for the consultation.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2018 17:55

We will not vary from twaw...

FreezerBird · 04/10/2018 17:55

She is wrong about the law, surely?

OP posts:
Latinista · 04/10/2018 17:55

“The law is very clear that trans women are women”. Ruth are you joking? It absolutely does not say that.

happydappy2 · 04/10/2018 17:56

Ruth sticks to the letter of the law that TWAW.....she is so blinkered its sickening

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2018 17:56

Not listening.

Let me guess she's trying to pretend there's no debate, whilst debating live on radio about why there is no debate and this is in no way a circular point that just proves there is a debate that Stonewall are trying to shut down?

PyeWackets · 04/10/2018 17:56

The law does not state that males are females, not at all.

happydappy2 · 04/10/2018 17:57

Sadly the law does allow a TW to be recognised as F under the law-it is a legal fiction and needs to be challenged.

AbsintheFriends · 04/10/2018 17:57

Such a shame they didn't go back to Jonny Best at the end - who was MAGNIFICENT and had Ruth Hunt totally on the back foot.

Least biased coverage I've heard yet.

Vango · 04/10/2018 17:57

I can’t believe there was no mention of Stonewall’s trans umbrella? Would Ruth agree that cross-dressers are women?

scepticalwoman · 04/10/2018 17:57

And there is the problem. Stonewall have been running round the country telling everyone that TWAW - in complete defiance of the actual law

2 + 2 = 5 - every. single. time.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/10/2018 17:58

Carolynn Quinn I think Somerville. She didn't pussyfoot around did she?

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 04/10/2018 17:58

"Trans women are women"

No, the GRA said transwomen WITH A GRC are women, Ruth.

Not bearded, hairy, penis wagglers.

And Stonewall have forgotten that lesbians are also a minority who are discriminated against, and that their policy eradicates lesbianism as a same-sex attraction.

Manderleyagain · 04/10/2018 17:58

I'm sure that is such a misrepresented of the law. It's a legal fiction so in most cases tw are treated as if women. But the exemptions can be used. We really need to address this using the courts.

NotNachoing · 04/10/2018 17:58

Jonathan was brilliant.

What exactly was RH referring to in the law? Does she mean that once someone has the GRC they're a trans woman? Because if so, she's deliberately misleading.

scepticalwoman · 04/10/2018 17:58

But yes, that was a very good and balanced interview. Who'd have thought it on the BBC!
