This is disgusting. So glad to hear that some of you will still get to meet. I imagine the speakers had already arrived on Leeds. It is becoming more and more important for women to form local campaign groups.

And this isn't a violation of the Human Rights Act (s 6(1) ('It is unlawful for a public authority to act in a way which is incompatible with a Convention right'; sch 1, art 11 ('Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and to freedom of association with others') how exactly??

Dear lord. Someone mentioned about been chained to railings and going on hunger strike. Is this really what women will have to do in order to be bloody well heard?

Is it time for a judicial review?

For JR the respondent has to be a public authority (check), the action has to be brought within 3 months (check), and the action complained of has to be so unreasonable that no public authority could reasonably have done it. Discriminating against women wanting a public meeting to discuss changes to the law seems to me to comfortably fit those criteria.

It would be important to crowdfund enough money to buy an insurance policy against paying the other side's costs.

I bet they knew they were going to cancel the event well before today. The last minute cancellation was probably to hinder them finding a new venue in time for the meeting.

Oh Laura's crowdfunding for (among other things) £1500 for new clothes. That's nice.

Horrified to hear this. Truly horrified. Never felt such genuine fear for the future of freedom of speech and belief.

They have always managed to find a new venue in the past. This does happen every time - it does seem deliberate to leave it so late.

Use a charity shop like the rest of us.

Can we change the subject line. Yes, the venue has cancelled, and WPUK that some women will therefore choose not to come, but there are plans to hold a peaceful assembly in protest at women's voices being silenced.
