Can't believe the guides twitter feed.

They include this about girls attitude towards their bodies.

'We need to protect young women' but not from boys.

noeffing I agree that much of what we are seeing is grooming a generation of girls to be compliant to mens wants.

FermatsTheorem · 25/09/2018 15:52

That would be the same Aimee Challenor who used their father David Challenor as their election agent while said father was awaiting trial for raping and torturing a 10 year old. Crimes of which he was subsequently found guilty. The same man who was also a scout leader, as well as involved in a local youth gymnastics club.

Out of respect for the 10 year old rape victim, and for the children and families who came within David Challenor's influence while he was heavily involved in youth activities, you would think anyone with an ounce of sensitivity in these circumstances would keep their nose well out of a controversy about child safeguarding and girl guiding

CrackpotsArePots · 25/09/2018 15:55

let's not forget, Aimee is still involved in Prism Youth group. Which, if the website is anything to got by doesn't have any Safeguarding policies

NKFell · 25/09/2018 16:07

They just have massive blinkers on and it's insane and worrying. My daughter is 5 and in Rainbows, why can't people speak up about safeguarding? Why can't the conversation be had instead of being shut down as if being transphobic. I am absolutely not transphobic, it's a short life, dress how you want, go by whatever name you want and I will back you 100%. Try accessing women's spaces and I will call you out. I do not want my daughter sharing tents with boys or getting undressed with boys or men present- so I'm transphobic I suppose. Ridiculous.

Redkeyboard · 25/09/2018 16:12

NKFell great post. Write to your MP and ask them to ask Penny Mordaunt.

Yes, exactly this.

Suppose GG had said "look, there are teens out there who are pretty firmly convinced that they have body dysphoria and are trans. And this is very hard for them and their families. And one of the ways to make this easier is to get them out of the internet bubble and into the real world -via guiding if necessary. So we will extend membership to transgirls, but we have to balance that against safeguarding concerns and the dignity and privacy of the girls already in our organisation. So - separate tents for different sexes."

At that point I would have thought "well, I still think the ideology is fundamentally nonsensical, but these are real people here, and this feels like a pragmatic compromise I can live with even if I have some reservations about it."

But they didn't. They had to go along with TWAW, TGAG, shut the fuck up women and send your daughters into that communal shower with a pubescent teen with a penis. That's the point at which they lost me. Because fuck that. Women are allowed to have boundaries. We are allowed to say "no."

NKFell · 25/09/2018 16:25

I agree fermats separate tents and I would still feel uneasy but like you say, these are real people and I feel for them I really do- I wonder what our patriarchal society does to these poor people tto make that happen but that's another argument! Why do they have to jump straight in with 'shut up girls, transwomen are women. End of discussion, hop in the shower with that female penis.'

I have written to my MP twice Redkey and have had no response! I'm going to write again, specifically mentioning Guides and my personal concerns regarding my daughter.

OvaHere · 25/09/2018 17:09

Well said Fermats I totally agree. Instead they've screwed themselves over this and angered a lot of parents.

They will also find themselves increasingly pressured to remove some of the work they previously did with young girls such as talking about puberty, periods and anything else that relates back to the female body because it will all be deemed transphobic.

EndOfDiscOne · 25/09/2018 18:23

Posted on other thread and can't easily share the text at present on phone but they just mass emailed all membership.

SwiftNC · 30/09/2018 19:01

Just posted this on another thread but this is probably more relevant

Latest BS on GG twitter:

"Sex isn’t listed as a protected characteristic because our 'girl only' offer is permitted as a positive action under the Equality Act 2010. We’re permitted to only allow girls to join as young members and some leadership positions are only open to women members."

Any clues WTF that even means? 🤔
