Can't believe the guides twitter feed.

They include this about girls attitude towards their bodies.

'We need to protect young women' but not from boys.

Esmee Fairbairn also gave £115K to Gendered Intelligence.

Gendered Intelligence also got £125K from the City of London (of Edward Lord fame?) in 2017.

democracy.cityoflondon.gov.uk/documents/s84172/e%20-%20Gendered%20Intelligence.pdf

From the report above, "GI has also secured funding from numerous grantmaking organisations such as BBC Children in Need, The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Tudor Trust and Henry Smith Charity for numerous projects and posts; testament to the effectiveness of this CIC".

Charliethefeminist · 23/09/2018 23:16

Excuse me I got muddled up with Carter Ruck Blush what a dumbass

R0wantrees · 23/09/2018 23:28

From The Gendered Intelligence link above:
(extract)
"With strong working relationships across sectors, including but not limited to; The Science Museum, Stonewall, The Football Association, The Rugby Council, NSPCC, and the Metropolitan Police, it is unique in its widely-recognised expertise in this area. Its training and education arm, through which tailored training products generate income, enable the organisation to work with schools and universities, both in the wider context of understanding gender diversity, but also creating a referral route into the organisation for trans young people" (continues)

R0wantrees · 23/09/2018 23:41

detailed Fairplay for Women thread with links to evidence etc:
(extract)
"Hundreds of parents signed our open letter asking @ Girlguiding to review their policy that allows boys who identify as girls to sleep in tents with other girls without telling patents. Two guide leaders have now been thrown out and their units closed

Girl Guiding refused to answer basic questions about safeguarding and parental informed consent. We cannot ignore the obvious that a trans child who identifies as a girl is still a male child with a body

This issue is not that a child might be trans. It is because they are MALE. We separate males & females for good reasons. When a male child IDs as a girl those reasons do not change. Parents must to be allowed to give their consent but they are denied.

The @ NSPCC says child on child sexual abuse accounts for 1/3 of all sexual abuse. Most of the perpetrators are boys, most of the victims are girls. We all know this truth. As adult can't close our eyes to these risks.

But when we asked CEO @ PeterWanless of @ NSCC for help we were turned away. NSPCC also follow the mantra that 'transgirls are girls'. No one will acknowledge the obvious that transgirls are also MALE. We don't say this to be unkind. We say it b/c risk assessments need the facts

We have raised this issue many times" (continues)

ROwan

A mesmac link?? Wtf?

R0wantrees · 24/09/2018 00:27

p21 Yorkshire Mesmac is recipient of one of the grants:
Towards the salary of the project
co-ordinator and costs of BLAST, a
project supporting boys and young
men affected by child sexual
exploitation.

Also noticed Women in Prisons is also a recipient:
£15000 (over 3 years)
Towards core costs to support
women in the criminal justice
system, enabling their voices to
be heard and reducing the number
of women in prison

Women in Prisons should in theory be the charity standing up for the female prisoners assaulted / at risk from male-born convicted rapists. They don't seem to have been at all obviously vocal. It was interesting to note that TELI (I think) were putting themselves or Women in Prisons forward as the appropriate experts whilst complaining about Victoria Derbyshire discussion (with Tara Hudson)

CrackpotsArePots · 24/09/2018 05:34

R0wan

I sent an email the other day, to Women In prison, asking on their take on the Karen White (and other) prison scandals, and whether they'd had input into the GRA consultation. No reply yet

TerfsUp · 24/09/2018 05:44

The Guides can fuck off with this "body confidence" bullshit.

Iused2BanOptimist · 24/09/2018 06:35

Aaand... on cue up pops Dr Hardofhearing to weigh in.

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 06:50

We are the only people standing up for 'trans' kids. The only ones, apart from the few Tavi staff who are quietly trying to hold back the tide with watch and wait.

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 06:52

The Esmee Fairbairn information Shock
What the connection? Couldn't find much back info on the trustees.

UnderHerEye · 24/09/2018 07:14

Really hoping that the responses on the Twitter feed get Guides to open their eyes on this.

I’ve noticed that gender critical voices are getting more numerous each time a new anti woman policy/person arises. Good. The more we can get this message out there the better, we will not let our rights be rolled back.

TimeLady · 24/09/2018 08:07

It would be interesting toknow if there are any conditions around inclusivity imposed for receiving funding from these foundations, wouldn't it? Changing safeguarding policy might seem a small price to pay for a six-figure grant.

These foundations must be enormously influential given their resources - the EF spent £44.6m in 2017. And the recent funding of Gendered Intelligence is raising a red flag to me.

VickyEadie · 24/09/2018 08:09

Dr HardofHearing is unusually blind and deaf to any notions of safeguarding - or even to the notion that some people (know, parents of girls) might need a bit of persuading not to be concerned about such things. For a person whose job involved a lot of safeguarding concerns, he's remarkably ill-informed about it.

RiverTam · 24/09/2018 08:11

They’ve had a 100% trouncing in Twitter over the weekend, so I’m hoping with this spectacular own goal they will reconsider.

Babdoc · 24/09/2018 08:33

I am SO heartened by the unanimous anger on Twitter. For ages I’ve felt that we were crying in the wilderness, but now at last everyone seems to have woken up to the threat posed by TRAs.
If non GC women won’t defend themselves, at least it seems they’re prepared to defend their daughters. It’s a great start.

deepwatersolo · 24/09/2018 08:40

Does Dr Harrop have any data that we are not aware of that would indicate that disabled or black girls can get other girls pregnant? Or that black or disabled girls or women are statistically more sexually abusive against females than the general female population?

If he does I'd sure love to have access to those data. He should definitely share them with us.

deepwatersolo · 24/09/2018 08:46

For a person whose job involved a lot of safeguarding concerns, he's remarkably ill-informed about it.

There are none so blinde as those who will not see. I have my own theories about why males like Harrop refuse to acknowledge the obvious when it comes to the safeguarding of children (or pais, as the Greek word is).

hackmum · 24/09/2018 08:48

I am SO heartened by the unanimous anger on Twitter.

Me too. Also to the response to the Times story, which was near-unanimous disgust at Girl Guides UK.

I worry a lot about Harrop. For a doctor, he seems to be extraordinarily dismissive of biology. He apparently has no concept of the importance of safeguarding. He loses his temper at the mildest provocation. And he is relentlessly aggressive and vicious towards women just for expressing an opinion. In all honesty, are these the qualities you'd want in your family GP?

Babdoc · 24/09/2018 08:56

Hackmum , it’s not what I’d want for a GP, but it’s exactly the behaviour I had to deal with from surgeons during my career ac an anaesthetist! Grin
