Can't believe the guides twitter feed.

They include this about girls attitude towards their bodies.

'We need to protect young women' but not from boys.

Have they removed replies to that post on Twitter? I can see only 2.

Bowlofbabelfish · 24/09/2018 09:09

This certainly doesn’t make me want to donate to charities.

They seem like a set of closed clubs with agendas, all feeding off each other with very little accountability

Popchyk · 24/09/2018 09:11

Are you looking at the correct thread, Drink?

Hold on DrHarrop

GG policy DOES mean that girls from certain religious groups - namely stricter version of many mainstream religions - will NOT be able to attend guides as they will not be allowed to share faciltiies especially where changing sleeping etc can be shared with males.

Many of these girls WILL BE BAME and / or immigrans.

When this was raised with GG they said that where you get conflicts like this someone always has to be discriminated agianst ie lose, and they believed that girls who would not be able to attend if males are attending should look elsewhere.

They chose to include penis people (with no basis in law for a "single gender" organisation) knowing that this will EXCLUDE many girls from minorities that might particularly benefit from their group & with limited alternative options.

Transgirls have a host of orgs they can join. Scouts is mixed sex and has a much more well thought out trans policy that seeks to ensure ALL children are comfortable. It does not encourage secrecy, springing unexpected dick on girls when they are away at camp, with no option for girls who don't like having unexpected dick about the place other than re-educaiton or leave guides (hard when you're away from your family for a weekend?).

LESBIANS are by definiton GNC (heterosexuality being at the very CORE of gender role / sex role) and are highly likely to question gender in this day and age, espeically with highly homophobic statements from certain high profile trans orgs that focus on children and trans individuals. A girl who IDs as agender has questionable right to remain in guides with advice aorund managing them out into an org that is a "better fit", while girls that ID as boys are requried to leave. Guides is only open to (girls or boys) who "feel like girls inside" whatever the fuck that means, and for most girls will translate to "adhering to and enjoying stereotypes associated with girls".

So in summary.
His tweet is fucking stupid as GG policy DOES exlude BAME girls, immigrants, Muslim girls, lesbians etc and so on. Cunty girls who may have benefited from the org and have minimal alternative options, all because GG with assistance from Pips Bunce, Jane Fay, Aimee Challenor et al are keen to get people with dicks as involved as possible and make sure that in sensitive situaitons (showers etc on away trips) neither the girls NOR their parents are pre warned.

The girls when presented with this as a fait accompli, have little recourse. They are away from home, it's expected by the leaders they will sharee (they see nothing wrong or odd), they are told this person IS a girl, they know they are supposed to shut up put up and pretend as well. All the while feeling extremely uncofmrotbale.

Girls should speak up my arse.

What are GG playing at?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 24/09/2018 09:28

popchyk I first looked at the tweet with the photo from the OP. Found the other one, thanks!

hackmum · 24/09/2018 10:09

I notice that in this Twitter thread:

twitter.com/Girlguiding/status/1043527857270652928

There are some moving tweets from a woman who was sexually assaulted at a mixed Guide/Scout camp by a Scout master.

I am still utterly incredulous that the Guides are throwing safeguarding precautions to the wind for the sake of pleasing a tiny minority of agitators.

Iused2BanOptimist · 24/09/2018 10:23

TBF Hackmum Dr Tidllywink is happy to share the love with men if he perceives them as less important and lower ranking than himself. He generously gave a paramedic a "friendly reminder" about social media policy!
Of course the paramedics Twitter looks engaging, interesting and entirely within the bounds of professionalism. But who am I to judge - a mere woman whose opinions certainly don't count!

Dr Adrian Harrop seems to be coming from a very very similar perspective to his 'dear friend' Dr Helen Webberley (Gender GP) who was interviewed on Radio 5 Live this morning:

EndOfDiscOne · 24/09/2018 10:56

Another one here now trying to get the kids onto the waiting lists for scouting so we can ditch guiding here.

I didn't like the direction Guiding was drifting in anyway - had concerns about it for a few years as it seemed to be lots and lots of lip service to empowering girls, yet lots and lots of badges and activities that seemed to be basically serving to reinforce gender stereotypes at the same time, and the last uniform change was just utterly utterly embarassingly terrible.

I volunteered for a while at a local Brownie pack and all they did were things like singing contests, nail art, make up and taking selfies and stuff and I was concerned about that anyway... that's never what Guiding was when I was a kid - it was the chance to go raking around through the woods, climb like an utter hoodlum up trees (managed to splendidly rip the entire back of my Brownie dress doing that) and archery, sailing and other things at various camps. I know there's a great variability of how well run units are - and this one wasn't a particularly well run one - but still it concerned me.

Think Beavers would be a much better fit for my younger daughter in particular anyway. I'm not happy letting them progress on through the organisation to the point where things like camps and pack holidays become a factor when the organisation is taking the line that they're perfectly happy to actively seek to deceive parents on safeguarding related matters.

So yeah "Girl"Guiding UK - that's potentially another two members lost, with a parent who is the sort likely to get sucked into volunteering themselves as time goes on (I seem to be the fool who ends up doing that kind of thing).

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 24/09/2018 23:05

I don’t think I trust any of them now though. These people actively infiltrate children’s organisations why wouldn’t they be picking on the scouts too? Do they have proper robust safeguarding and advice. Because I don’t feel qualified at the moment to make a choice, I had my daughter on the waiting list for guides- which now I’m a bit appalled at myself for being so naive.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/09/2018 11:29

Because they are particularly interested in girls / womens orgs.

Is why.

99% of the focus is on things which are girl / woman only, and / or include them taking their clothes off.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/09/2018 11:31

I have not seen any transmen shouting about being allowed into men's prisons.

With male orgs the focus seems to be on allowing transwomen to remain after they transition.

Cake + eat it & it's all about the rights of transowmen / transgirls / non binary penis people.

Freemasons is good example.

R0wantrees · 25/09/2018 13:14

Yet it seems that there are transmen at the head of some of the key organisations driving policy eg Stephen Whittle (Press for Change), James Barrett (Scotland) Jay Stewart (Gendered Intelligence) etc

Gendered Intelligence were 'expert advisers' to the Girl Guides:

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/09/2018 13:32

yes true wtf is that all about

is it to show they really are "one of the boys"?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/09/2018 13:35

twitter - fair play for women contacted the ehrc about GG not adhering to any kind of laws around discriminaiton / protected characteristics

twitter.com/fairplaywomen/status/1044541950718816258

they say they have the info back from ehrc and are ahppy to share iwth a journalist who has asked

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 25/09/2018 13:36

You know what I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending her to scouts at the moment. I’m sure I remember Challoner senior being involved with the Scouts. I don’t remember a press release from them about wether or not he was working with them during his time on bail. Maybe I missed something there though. I also don’t see that a small boy is any less vulnerable than a small girl or teen in either case. After seeing all this it’s now just instinct. I will be very very choosy where any of them go from now on. I’ve always been quite a cautious parent anyway but this has just made me think I was right. There are more interesting things my kids can be doing other than scouts or guides that won’t leave her vulnerable to abuse. That don’t lie to parents or have crap safeguarding.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/09/2018 13:39

you knwo what they will say

they will say that a bunch of bigoted women got GG shut down becasue they hate trans people

when in fact the trans orgs who went in and advised GG incorrectly on the law, that it was allowed to have a "single gender" org (it isn't), and that there were no safeguarding concerns and they didn't have to tell anyone are the ones who have done this.

Unless GG backtrack PDQ and given how embedded they are with the likes of pips bunce (i'm a little teapot), jane fae (extreme porn), aimee challenor (i'm just a standard girl whose into adult baby and furry fetishes) and all the rest of them I cant see that happening.

They are looking for new CEO who will be able to relaunch as trans glitter org for people who are girly etc new CEO will be penis person 100% probably with an exciting gender ID

All the sensible woman leaders will leave becasue of course they will

then what

NothingOnTellyAgain · 25/09/2018 13:40

"You know what I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending her to scouts at the moment. I’m sure I remember Challoner senior being involved with the Scouts. I don’t remember a press release from them about wether or not he was working with them during his time on bail. "

I havent' seen anything either
nor the gymnastics or wheelchair basketball he was involved in
if there is only one victim out there i will eat my hat. to go from no sex offending to the level he was imprisoned for in 1 step is vanishingly unlikely

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 25/09/2018 13:44

Why don't they do a re-brand and call themselves 'Guides'?

This would allow a new organisation for girls to fill the gap, then all the parents, kids and volunteers who want a single sex choice could leave Girl Guides and go there. It could be fairly seemless.

OvaHere · 25/09/2018 14:12

I think it would be hard or even impossible to set up a new org for XX only.

Start up costs and funding are hard to come by, any new org attempting this would be immediately targeted and probably litigated against which would be hard to fight without being a wealthy, established org.

Unless GG backtrack then single sex spaces for girls have been consigned to the history bin.

A big win for all the MRAs masquerading as TRAs.

noeffingidea · 25/09/2018 15:15

I remember a thread on Dspy a few years ago started by an MRA about girl guides. He was fuming about some of the objectives which had been voted by the girl members themselves, things such as reducing sexual harrasment at school, reducing sexualisation of girls in the media, etc etc.
I think this started then. They want it either taken over by themselves, or closed down.
As an older woman I can't help thinking there's a mass grooming of teenage girls going on at the moment, to accept their partners watching pornography, to accept certain sexual activities and kinks that most women used to refuse to do, to aspire to 'sex work' as being empowering, etc etc. I think they want to block any resistance to this grooming, hence why they hate this forum so much.
OvaHere they will go underground. A backlash will come, and it will come from younger women.

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/09/2018 15:23

Can it get any worse?

dolorsit · 25/09/2018 15:24

Popchyk · 25/09/2018 15:26

God, endorsement from Aimee Challenor.

Just the person to put parents' minds at rest.

CrackpotsArePots · 25/09/2018 15:33

Iused

Aaah Aimee Challoner. Singularly the opposite of a suitable person to understands boundaries, children, Safeguarding and girls.
