Can't believe the guides twitter feed.

They include this about girls attitude towards their bodies.

'We need to protect young women' but not from boys.

Must be f king great to be born with balls!*

Getting better all the time thanks to Stonewall!

AngryAttackKittens · 23/09/2018 15:48

I've not seen a positive comment so far. Brilliant PR move there, GG.

The sad thing is that I honestly don't think in many cases the male people pushing for entry into orgs like GG even really want to be part of those orgs. They just don't want girls to have male free spaces where they can feel comfortable and develop confidence. It's pure spite in many cases.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 23/09/2018 16:00

Yes. Thinking about Aimee Challenor as a teenage delinquent investigated for cyber crime by the police. I hardly think Girl Guides would have been suitable.

ImPreCis · 23/09/2018 16:04

It’s unbelievable isn’t it? It must be deliberate.

We’ve got something for #EveryGirl

Yeh, including those with a penis!

AngryAttackKittens · 23/09/2018 16:07

Pretty sure GG don't offer badges in cybercrime or how to sew your own babyfur costume.

GrimDamnFanjo · 23/09/2018 16:59

I'm wondering whether the leadership at a county and regional level have been contacted? To be honest the staff don't make the policy, the senior volunteers do and this starts with county and regional commissioners.
I can't for the life of me believe that the entire decision making structure of the GGA is on board with all of this!

EndOfDiscOne · 23/09/2018 17:37

I would trust the Hey Duggee Squirrels safeguarding policy (and attitude toward badges) more than "Girl"guiding at the moment.

Have a relative who worked at the UK HQ for a while - lots of fairly young, trying to look socially concious and inclusive staffing... this being the result.

PencilsInSpace · 23/09/2018 18:12

SpyChase - This is shady. Sorry, but this doesn’t apply to every staff member, many ARE volunteers and PARENTS and many DO NOT agree with half the crap that’s going on. They very much do give a fuck but if they speak up? well... look what happens to the volunteers.

The difference is that paid employees are protected by law from unfair dismissal if they blow the whistle. Volunteers are not. Whistleblower protection starts from the first day of employment, unlike most other employment rights which don't kick in until you've been employed somewhere for 2 years.

I recognise that it's a huge ask and still a risky thing to do, but if there were any paid staff who were prepared to speak up it could make a big difference - precisely because they can't be got rid of as easily as volunteers.

TimeLady · 23/09/2018 18:22

I had a volunteer role with a national charity which involved a lot of contact with the London HQ. I hadn't come across the term 'woke' back then (the start of 2018) but I can see now it was that attitude that pissed me off so much that I quit.

"That's really helpful but.." was a favourite phrase, when they wanted you to stop asking awkward questions.Grin

VickyEadie · 23/09/2018 20:10

That Twitter feed is the best thing I've read in ages - it's cheered me up no end tonight.

I loved the fact that several people mentioned David Challenor in this context.

CrackpotsArePots · 23/09/2018 20:20

I know. It's fabulously righteously angry

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/09/2018 20:55

Is there any place to see if there have been any substantial monetary donations to GG ? Are such things disclosed?

TimeLady · 23/09/2018 21:12

Last published accounts were for 2016

apps.charitycommission.gov.uk/Accounts/Ends16/0000306016_AC_20161231_E_C.pdf

See p32

Looks as though the 2017 accounts will be filed at the end of October this year.

R0wantrees · 23/09/2018 21:18

2016 From page 5:
"Our updated Equality and
Diversity Policy was approved
by the trustees, reaffirming
our commitment to inclusion
for all girls and offering more
detailed information about
what this means. We built
new partnerships with Scope,
Stonewall and Gendered
Intelligence; we updated
our guidance on including
transgender girls and volunteers;
and we supported more
volunteers and girls to attend
Pride events than ever before,
sending a strong message that
Girlguiding truly welcomes every
girl and woman."

silentcrow · 23/09/2018 21:44

Please tell me Scope haven't been nobbled by this lot as well.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/09/2018 21:55

Is there any way of seeing individual donors? I’m wondering if any individual or foundation who pushes an agenda has donated a substantial amount to GG?

TimeLady · 23/09/2018 22:01

I was looking that up this morning, Babel

The only info from the 2016 report linked above is

Girlguiding would like to thank the following for their generous support of the charity in 2016. • The trusts and foundations which supported our work with girls and young women across the UK, including players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, the Pears Foundation, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation, the Dudley and Geoffrey Cox Charitable Trust and Rosa. • HM Government for funding our youth programme via the Tampon Tax Fund. • Our corporate partners who helped us to empower more girls to reach their full potential including Tesco, PGL Travel Ltd, Pets at Home Group Plc, Cotswold Outdoor, SGN and Rolls-Royce. • The supporters who generously left a gift to Girlguiding in their will. • The families and friends who gave gifts in memory of lifelong supporters. • The runners, the trekkers, the cyclists and the bakers who gave their time and energy to raise money for Girlguiding. • Our generous and loyal supporters who have kindly given donations

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 23/09/2018 22:02

For a while I did think I’d keep my daughter on the waiting list and wait and see what happens- but sod that now. They are not to be trusted, I’m not even that interested in the reasons now, in presuming there are people in there who have sinister motivation. The part of Girl Guides who are making these descisions are stupid enough not to see it or complicit.

Needmoresleep · 23/09/2018 22:07

If their ‘brand’ is tarnished, bequests will presumably start to dry up. Plus more traditional sponsors may steer clear, leaving them competing for money from the same ‘woke’ organisations as Mermaids etc.

Charliethefeminist · 23/09/2018 22:28

Agree totally, but more than spite, it is a calculated move to thin out girls who will become confident challenging women. It is a deliberate move against the class of girls and women. Aggressive TRA don't give a shit about some poor boy convinced he has to try to be a girl because he likes baking. They want that female space erased.

TimeLady · 23/09/2018 22:46

From the Esmee Fairbairn 2015 accounts lodged with the Charity Commission, p19

Girlguiding (The Guide Association) £250,000 (over three years) Towards a pilot of the Action For Change project which will empower Girlguiding’s membership to take social action.

Esmee F seems great but it did give 20k to Trans Media Action which has contributed to the unquestioning media culture around this issue, and which in turn contributed to the relatively limited news coverage this assault on Girl Guides has suffered.
