As we thought, Bercow does indeed have connections with LGBT lobbying groups - he is president of the Kaleidoscope Trust

But can we campaign against Bercow? He is clearly not impartial, and therefore not fit for office.

You would be far from the first to try! Though a Conservative MP, many Tories loath him, so he clings on with Labour support.

alexpolistigers · 17/09/2018 08:18

He clings on with their support now, but imagine if there were a general outcry from the public. How long would his position be tenable then? If he were seen as a liability who was costing them votes.

Edward Lord and their 'old friend' the Speaker of The House of Commons, John Bercow.
(Lord is non-binary and preferred pronouns are they/their)

I'm curious about 'special nomination'

'Freedom by Nomination – Persons of any nationality may apply for the Freedom by nomination. Forms are available from the Chamberlain’s Court and the applicant must be nominated by two sponsors who will be Common Councilmen of the City of London, Aldermen or Liverymen.'

Nice response from Florence Nightingale described in the explanatory video :

@Procrastinator1
Ask your MSP. I'm not too sure of the procedures, but a great idea.
www.parliament.scot/msps.aspx

Bercow's Mr. Speakers Coat of Arms (£37k +)includes a rainbow, and pink triangles.
Not a Black Triangle to be seen however.

No unruly wimmin allowed it seems Hmm

Motto: "All are equal"
( but some are more equal than others eh? Mr. Speaker)

Lurking, I don’t live in Scotland, hoping someone who does might want to contact their map.

LurkingWaspi · 17/09/2018 12:33

Ah! Righty ho, I hope someone does run with it in Scotland Smile

Procrastinator1 · 17/09/2018 12:34

MSP not map

I did. If they're paying Kirkup for reporting on this, I'm happy to help pay him too. He's doing us all a great service.

Sun article: 'Fury as transsexual paedophile who groomed underage girls is moved to women’s prison'

"FEMALE cons are said to be terrified after a transgender paedophile was moved to their prison.

Michelle Lewin, 51, was jailed indefinitely in 2007 for grooming underage girls.

She is believed to have been transferred to HMP Peterborough while awaiting gender reassignment surgery.

But a source said: “A lot of the women are genuinely terrified of her. Lewin’s a serious sex offender and she’s physically much stronger.

“There are female inmates in there who have been raped and they are scared of her.” (continues)
thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3368746-Dangerous-sex-offender-transferred-to-womens-prison-Peterborough

to quote from the OP article by James Kirkup:

"But even by the dismal standards of the trans debate, where supposedly responsible figures routinely shirk their duties to appease a small, aggressive group of activists and lobbyists, John Bercow’s decision strikes me as repulsive, a disgusting abdication of responsibility that brings shame on its author and his office."

& to add that it is surely incumbant on all MPs to push for a full and urgent investigation to ensure the duty of care required towards vulnerable female prisoners?

Evidencebased · 19/09/2018 23:16

And MPs will only push for it if they think it matters to their constituents.
So email/write your MP, tell them what you’re thinking, and what you feel about Parliament not even allowing questions on this - you’re be amazed how few individual communications it takes before MPs take some notice:

www.writetothem.com/write?who=46786&pc=NR11+6HZ

There is a sense in which we get the democracy we deserve: if we think it’s crap, but won’t even write in to protest, why will it ever change?

Current thread which discusses the precedents set by Karen Lawson's succesful legal fight to be moved to female prison estate in 2009:

From the introduction to recently published Briefing Paper for MPs

BRIEFING PAPER
Number 07420, 19 September 2018
Transgender Prisoners

"2011 policy guidelines for England and Wales had stated that prisoners should normally be located in the prison estate of their gender as recognised by UK law. For transgender prisoners, a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) would normally be necessary before a person could be placed in a prison corresponding to their acquired gender. However there was some flexibility for trans prisoners who were “sufficiently advanced in the gender reassignment process”.

The Women and Equalities Committee looked at the issue of transgender prisoners as part of their wider report on Transgender Equality, published in January 2016. The Committee said
there was a “clear risk of harm” where trans prisoners are not located in a prison “appropriate to their acquired/affirmed gender”.

Surely there is an Urgent Question of both Parliament and the Women's & Equalities Commitee to consider that there is (and was) a "clear risk of harm" to vulnerable female prisoners when male-born prisoners with convictions for rape are housed in a locked-environment in Female Estate as evidenced by the sexual assaults by White?

Metro October 1st

'Transgender sex attacker, 41, pretended to be a boy to groom a girl'
(extract)
"A transgender sex offender has been jailed for 11 years after pretending to be a boy to try and groom a girl. Jacinta Brooks, 41, asked a 12-year-old girl to send indecent pictures of herself – the third time she is known to have targeted children. Brooks, who was previously known as Duncan Smart, has previously faced the courts for having sex with someone who is underage and child abuse.

The latest victim’s mother said that she would be haunted for the rest of a life by ‘this pathetic excuse of a person’ and had been forced to leave because of the severe trauma. Judge Nicholas Rowland described Brooks a ‘danger to children’ at Southampton Crown Court.

Prosecutor Berenice Mulvanny said that police found screenshots of the conversation with the girl along with hundreds of child abuse pictures. Brooks gave no comment during a police interview but admitted she ‘couldn’t argue’ about being attracted to children." (continues)

Times article today: John Bercow urged to quit over report into sex pest MPs
Speaker of the Commons is not up to the job, says standards chief
(extract)
"The heads of two Commons committees are calling for John Bercow to resign as Speaker after a report said that “disturbing” allegations of sexual harassment by MPs had been “tolerated and concealed”.

Sir Kevin Barron, who leads the standards committee, intervened after the conclusions of an independent inquiry into harassment of Commons staff were published.

The report by Dame Laura Cox, 66, found that it would be “extremely difficult” for the “current senior House administration”, including the Speaker, to bring about the changes required. It added that Mr Bercow was incapable of addressing a culture of “deference, subservience, acquiescence and silence” among Commons staff.

Writing in The Times, Sir Kevin, 71, says: “The change in culture has to come from the top, and unfortunately I no longer believe that the Speaker, John Bercow, is the correct person to provide that leadership, so he should step down.” (continues)
