As we thought, Bercow does indeed have connections with LGBT lobbying groups - he is president of the Kaleidoscope Trust

God that’s good. Thank you JK. Oh and JKR as well for the tentative, perhaps accidental, but not yet rescinded, Like.

JK writes very clearly. Very to the point. He is very good at drilling it down to the important point.

Off to look at Kaleidoscope Trust..........

Excellent article

Once saw Bercow in Sainsbury's struggling with a self-service till. "Unexpected item in the bagging area." A strange man.

TimeLady · 14/09/2018 13:10

Thank you, James, for not pulling any punches. I'm also encouraged to see that the comments are backing your disgust at Bercow's decision so far

SwearyG · 14/09/2018 13:10

Bercow threw a reception for LGBT stakeholders a while back (may have been stonewall) and was derisive about people - women - who questioned trans dogma. There was a thread on here at the time. He is clearly not neutral on this matter.

2BorNot2Bvocal · 14/09/2018 13:15

Bercow is not going to move www.theguardian.com/politics/2011/nov/28/john-bercow-coat-of-arms

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 14/09/2018 13:32

The State did not just put a rapist in a women’s jail, they put a convicted paedophile in prison with children

Angry

what the actual hell is going on?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 14/09/2018 13:36

I love the belief of these nutjobs that if they can just control people talking it about it the problem is going to magically go away. And that it's never going to come back and bite them on the bum.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/09/2018 13:38

^ Women (and children) are learning how little we have ever mattered.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 14/09/2018 13:51

I spoke to Bercow once. I did not get a good vibe.

Thanks James. I remember John's words at the Pink News event, I think he cited Churchill.

This is all shades of wrong and in light of a major public consultation, so kudos to James for pursuing the truth.

DereksSexyPyjamas · 14/09/2018 13:53

Good lord, he’s not pulling any punches, is he?

But even by the dismal standards of the trans debate, where supposedly responsible figures routinely shirk their duties to appease a small, aggressive group of activists and lobbyists, John Bercow’s decision strikes me as repulsive, a disgusting abdication of responsibility that brings shame on its author and his office.

LangCleg · 14/09/2018 14:06

James is definitely getting crosser and crosser.

As does anyone who actually engages with this madness.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 14/09/2018 14:13

Thanks again James.

scepticalwoman · 14/09/2018 14:14

A very good article. Protection of children and the population from paedophiles and sex offenders should be straightforward. #nodebate

How have we reached a position where politicians are frightened of stating this?

DereksSexyPyjamas · 14/09/2018 14:42

YY, but it’s not just that: we’ve reached a position where politicians are deliberately trying to block discussion. Of locking rapists and paedophiles (necessary fucking disclaimer: not all transwomen are like that, obviously.) up with women and children. What the fuck.

Theswaggyotter · 14/09/2018 15:05

Thanks James, this story needs publicity we can’t let it disappear
When I tried to talk about this on another forum (closed group of professional women on fb) I was told that transwomen are women and I was being hateful. It beggars belief that anyone could try to defend this scandalous placement

ChattyLion · 14/09/2018 15:34

I am really shocked at the Speaker blocking this! WTF.

FermatsTheorem · 14/09/2018 16:10

My weekly heartfelt "Thank you James."

Yes, I do sense that he is getting crosser and crosser, and rightly so.

"But even by the dismal standards of the trans debate, where supposedly responsible figures routinely shirk their duties to appease a small, aggressive group of activists and lobbyists, John Bercow’s decision strikes me as repulsive, a disgusting abdication of responsibility that brings shame on its author and his office."

Round of applause for that in particular.

One thing I would add to his excellent article is that both the professional body of psychologists who work in prisons and the prison governors association have warned about this - the former to Maria Miller's parliamentary select committee. Which makes the safeguarding failure even worse - because they were told at the highest levels that this would happen, by people whose expertise in the field was unsurpassed, and those with power to do something chose to ignore those very clear, unambiguous warnings.

Theswaggyotter · 14/09/2018 16:18

I have subscribed to spectator now because of James Kirkup’s articles. Does anyone know if I share on fb will it be visible or still behind paywall - I’m guessing the latter.
I just feel this story is not being publicised enough and it’s a huge fucking scandal
I’m really angry about it Angry

OlennasWimple · 14/09/2018 16:21

Excellent article

I can't see any comments, though?
