I love this. Particularly her point about cognitive dissonance.

Posie is banned from mumsnet!?! I didn't get that at first.

And for mocking a public figure who wants us to repeat the TWAW mantra after her, even though she can't say what these words mean?

We all know, at latest since reading Hannah Arendt or Animal Farm, what it says about a society, when it has political leaders who demand the repetition of slogans that make no sense or negate reality, right? Right!?!

Datun · 12/09/2018 08:38

I wish the press would publish that politicians have repeatedly been asked to define the word woman, and they can't do it.

And then they, themselves should ask if you can't define the word woman, how can you define women's rights?

GenderApostate · 12/09/2018 08:40

I had no idea Posie was banned from MN - utterly disgraceful. No threats, no name calling, just a bit of humour, with added truth.
Sod this, I’ll be on our other forum if anyone wants me 😡

Babdoc · 12/09/2018 08:41

Is there any way of lobbying MNHQ to get Posie reinstated? She is absolutely wonderful - what a marvellous role model and champion for women’s rights!
She is definitely a proper, old school, no nonsense feminist - I had feared there were none of us left. Bless you, Posie - more power to your gender critical elbow!

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 08:41

I love the way she refers to actual men as actual men. I love the way she refuses to ignore biological reality and actual genitals even though she is accused of being obsessed by them (that other woman obviously fears genitals). The whole thing is just brilliant.

It is. Fantastic rant. She definitely took one for the team going to that workshop.

deepwatersolo · 12/09/2018 08:42

I will just spell out Arendt's analysis of European 20th century fascism here, for the record:

Why the constant, often blatant lying? For one thing, it functioned as a means of fully dominating subordinates, who would have to cast aside all their integrity to repeat outrageous falsehoods and would then be bound to the leader by shame and complicity.

The result of a consistent and total substitution of lies for factual truth is not that the lie will now be accepted as truth and truth be defamed as a lie, but that the sense by which we take our bearings in the real world—and the category of truth versus falsehood is among the mental means to this end---is being destroyed.

I'm fairly new to all this, and my jaw drops another centimetre every day.

MN has banned this woman?

The mind doesn't just boggle, it dances right out of my ear and up the garden path to Bedlam.

For FUCK'S sake.

Non compliant women were seen as deranged and dangerous.

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

The best thing ever, as Posie so articulately demonstrates, is when you stop giving a single shiny shit if men and their handmaidens think you are deranged and dangerous. If they think that, you're probably on the right track.

boatyardblues · 12/09/2018 08:50

I just had a penny drop. If transwomen have a GRC, one is legally compelled to refer to them as a woman but because its illegal to ask if someone has a GRC or to see it, we are legally compelled either way. Yeah, something not right about that. If you want a blue badge (ie additional adjustments), you have to demonstrate that you have a disability & are entitled. I don’t see this as being any different.

lucydogz · 12/09/2018 08:50

amazing. I can't wait to watch it all over again

MawkishTwaddle · 12/09/2018 08:51

My favourite bit is where she points to all the posters in the room depicting women's struggles throughout history and asks, 'Did all these people go through all this because they identified as women?'

Excellent point.

OP posts:
GColdtimer · 12/09/2018 08:51

Datun I I have asked Layla Moran to define women, and if TWAW to define trans 3 times now (on rowantrees suggestion). She seems to not want to answer. And she is a fucking science teacher.

Posie if you are reading, my 13 year old watched the first 10 mins of your video this morning as it was on my phone and she was looking something up. She has decided she loves you.

GColdtimer · 12/09/2018 08:53

I agree babdoc

GulagMilkMonitor · 12/09/2018 08:55

Wait, Posie is permanently banned?
Women silencing women.

#IAmPosie

PetraDelphiki · 12/09/2018 09:00

Posie can I buy you a beer??? Fabulous!!!

deepwatersolo · 12/09/2018 09:05

Prof. Jordan Peterson in Canada has raised hell, because some similar provisions also compel speech, which he says is totalitarian.
I disagree with Peterson about a lot*. but he is spot on with this.

(*he is conservative, and I heard him once say, women aren't meant for STEM, which is obvious bullshit. There may be statistic differences in women's affinities to STEM vs, say, caring professions, but there is great overlap between men and women, and as a woman in STEM I have seen men with way less capability of logical analysis than women in the field go much farther. So it is a lot about male networking that women are still rare at the top in STEM.).

Deathgrip · 12/09/2018 09:10

Good for you Posie!

She used to be in a Facebook group I’m in, and assume she was booted out for expressing her opinion as I’ve seen happen to many others. That group has become beyond insane these days, but it’s quite useful to see what’s happening.

What I find baffling is that these are the same women (and others) who absolutely, utterly despise Rachel Dolezal. I’m trying to imagine a scenario where a bunch of white people start blacking up and insist they are accepted into groups for POC, and that their rights are centred because being transracial makes them more oppressed. It would NEVER happen. Why? Because these feminists do not believe that women are oppressed as a class. They genuinely don’t, so fuck knows why they’re feminists in the first place.

Descent · 12/09/2018 09:19

Absolute disgrace that Posie is banned from MN. Just what side are you on @MNHQ? Because it looks very like you are aligning yourself with men who hate women...and that means you too!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 12/09/2018 09:23

What did Posie do to get Banned? How many other posters have we lost? Is there a BAFTA award for the most creative and emphatic use of the word 'fuck?'

FloPen · 12/09/2018 09:35

Anyone else wondering how long before this gets pulled?

ChattyLion · 12/09/2018 09:37

Seems like a perfectly reasonable reaction- not a rant at all!

Prestonsflowers · 12/09/2018 09:42

I thought it was fabulous and funny but very true.
I also cannot believe that Posie Parker has been permanently banned from Mumsnet

ToeToToe · 12/09/2018 09:43

I didn't know Posie was banned over that. MNHQ completely lost their heads with that thread.

Frankly, Gok Wan was given a harder time on his webchat years ago than Stella Creasey on that thread.

But I don't remember the banhammer coming out then.

MPs should be able to answer questions on laws they are trying to pass. Children's charities should be able to respond to questions on their campaigns.

Ridiculous nannying by HQ of an elected politician - Stella Creasey was requesting our support for her law - but couldn't answer our questions on it?? And then we had to stop asking questions altogether. And then the thread was deleted. Fuck that.

Rainatnight · 12/09/2018 09:48

this is amazing.

But I will also say that I spent half an hour trying to figure out why American actress Posey Parker had developed an English accent and was so exercised by trans issues in British schools.

Rainatnight · 12/09/2018 09:48

No! Parker Posey! That's how confused I am.
