The Times reporting on the smear campaign against academics run by 'Natacha Kennedy' of Goldsmiths. Given how movingly women academics have written here about the fear and intimidation they experience working in universities, how good to see the source of the bullying exposed. share token:

And a brilliant article by Janice Turner about dangerous trans rapists in women's jails:

So pleased that I took out a subscription to the Times.

Wake* stupid autocorrect

borntobequiet · 08/09/2018 07:20

Well done Lucy Bannerman and Janice. And the Times .
I suspect more and more female journalists and presenters will get on this now and speak out. And kudos as always to the men who support women in this - James K and Andrew G and others.

gendercritter · 08/09/2018 07:21

That is a cracker of an article.

trumptrump · 08/09/2018 07:27

I know someone who used to work with this person. Apparently, Natasha is the type who threatens everyone (well, mainly women) with "I'm reporting you to HR" and "that's a hate crime". Everyone was allegedly on egg shells around them. Sad

PartridgeInAFairTree · 08/09/2018 07:27

Two wonderful reads on a Saturday morning, thanks for sharing. For the many of us on here that have had conversations with friends and colleagues in real life starting 'I'm not talking about old school transsexuals, I'm talking about...' and still wondering if some of those friends and colleagues really get it or even like us any more, articles and journalists like these are a lifeline

Wilhemenawonka · 08/09/2018 07:31

Both these articles are amazing. There is more and more of this stuff coming out and the lack of clothes on the emperor is really starting to show

KERALA1 · 08/09/2018 07:31

And it's always women that are the targets of the vitriol and anger. Gender critical men largely left alone. Gosh wonder why that is? Hmm

boldlygoingsomewhere · 08/09/2018 07:35

Great articles!

Interesting that Goldmith is mentioned. They’ve been implicated before as being very far down the rabbit hole.

IAmLurkacus · 08/09/2018 07:41

Lucy Bannerman
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Thank you very much and well done! Lucy’s been on the case a while and taken a lot of stick on twitter.

Will read Janice’s article now and buy the times today in support.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/09/2018 07:42

They are both really good articles. Hopefully people will start taking note.

IAmLurkacus · 08/09/2018 07:47

Janice’s article also absolutely brilliant. As always thank you and well done Smile

www.feministcurrent.com/2018/03/23/leftist-women-uk-refuse-accept-labours-attempts-silence-critiques-gender-identity/

This is the article with the interview with Lucy Mcdonagh of the Deptford People Project (it's quite a way down this excellent, long article from Meghan Murphy). Yes, Goldsmith's is full of woke types who've opened their brains so wide their brains have fallen out. No surprise LM is about to start studying there.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 08/09/2018 07:47

Minds. Not brains. Sigh.

tiredandweary · 08/09/2018 07:52

Here's a link to an article where Lucy McDonagh, founder of the Deptford Project, talks about the problems that white middle class students (many from Goldsmiths) were causing with their tone deaf contributions to groups for working class women - you have to scroll down half way to find her comments:

Hopefully R0wan will soon be along with more information.

I was just coming on to start a thread featuring these 2 articles. Both are bloody brilliant.

Well done The Times for being brave enough to pursue this agenda and once again thank you Janice Turner, another brilliant article that goes straight to the point in a rational, well argued way.

I felt a small sense of hope that the wheels are finally starting to come off the trans activism wagon as they show their true colours.

Pacers · 08/09/2018 07:55

Excellent articles, both of them.

Does anyone with Twitter fancy pointing out to Janice or The Times that there’s a confusing typo in the final paragraph of her piece “Besides, if self-ID is introduced after the Gender Recognition Act review, it will be easier for a trans prisoner to become legally male and thus have an almost automatic right to transfer”

Pacers · 08/09/2018 07:57

(Not for purposes of pedantry, but because I’d hate for someone to read such a brilliantly clear piece and the penny start to drop, only to get to the end and be confused again)

BettyDuMonde · 08/09/2018 07:58

I went to G/Smiths 15 years ago. Back then, they still taught women’s studies (or at least, they did as part of my course).

I’d love a timeline on what went wrong - there were some wonderfully feminist tutors there in my time - all of them seem to have moved on, some to tea;;y excellent things (a Turner Prize winner, for starters).

Considering writing to the graduate magazine, Goldlink, to ask WTF is going on?

Igneococcus · 08/09/2018 08:10

Thanks Tiger and tired that's the post I was looking for. I couldn't remember her name or the name of the project.

inquiquotiokixul · 08/09/2018 08:30

Excellent final line to the second article

LizzieSiddal · 08/09/2018 08:35

Absolutely fab articles. Thank you to the journalists and The Times for printing them. Star

LizzieSiddal · 08/09/2018 08:37

Also loved “she[sic]”

I wonder if we’re allowed to use that on MN?

rememberatime · 08/09/2018 08:44

My son is about to start at Goldsmiths. He is a huge proponent of free speech to the point where even I have disagreed with him at times. I will be interested to hear what he thinks of the woke types he comes across.

clickazee · 08/09/2018 08:50

Some good comments too on the online version (ignoring the usual Times dinosaurs' "I can't get my head around this" shtick). I am glad to read the universities are supporting their lecturers but I bet it's been a long time coming. Institutions have been very scared by the activists. Anything we can do to support them? As a former graduate student at Sussex, I'll be writing to the university to support Professor Stock. Can others do the same? The more support these academics get, the less likely the universities are to cave in.

ChattyLion · 08/09/2018 08:56

Just musing how my professional life could have been a lot easier if I could have had a male name I could also use.. Hmm
