I’ve got eyelash extensions at the moment if that helps (& was wearing lipstick). I’m not going tonight.

arranbubonicplague · 30/11/2018 12:19

From that skeptical thread it looks like DDP/CPS took over the prosecution and discontinued it.

And it looks like defence is pressing to recover costs.

ToeToToe · 30/11/2018 12:25

Love that Venice was wearing Suffragette colours Smile

The facts of this case have been available for months. I Can't understand why it took so long for it to be thrown out - the stop came so late it couldn't be communicated in time for the defendants to stay at home, apparently (though I wonder if the other side heard, since the expected TRA demo didn't happen?)

The extra strain and cost imposed on Linda and Venice by this being dragged out till the 11th hour seem unpardonable to me.

BirdseyeFrozen · 30/11/2018 13:32
Star Hurray!
Melamin · 30/11/2018 13:55

I expect more of it will come out at the meeting tonight.

I assume Guiliana wasn't there either?

GodThisIsShit · 30/11/2018 14:01

That's great news.

Will there be a written "judgement" or whatever it's called - an explanation as to why it was thrown out? I'd love to read that.

MotherWol · 02/12/2018 20:25

I think (though I’m not 100% sure) that I spotted someone I know IRL on the video. I had no idea she was gender critical, and I doubt it’ll ever come up in conversation, but it’s a bit of a boost to know other people feel like this!

NotZenEnough · 02/12/2018 20:31

Motherwol you should definitely approach her about it! I would be delighted if someone had spotted me and outed themselves as an ally!

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2019 13:05

Just seen an article sympathetic to Giuliana that refers to this case and the protests. Strangely, unless I've missed it (it's a long article) the case isn't described at all. We get the distinct impression that people protested because Giuliana is trans.

SunsetBeetch · 28/02/2019 13:40

What an awful article. Had to chuckle at Pink News being described as "balanced".

R0wantrees · 28/02/2019 13:41

extract from article above by Jem Collins (Strategic Impact Director)

"When Giuliana Kendal decided to take her case to court, it was a decision she thought about carefully for a long time. “I’m no coward,” she told RightsInfo, “but I thought it might have serious implications.” Going to court can be a nerve-wracking decision for anyone, but for Giuliana it came with an added weight – she is a trans woman, and her case was to be heard at the peak of the furore about the Government’s Gender Recognition Act Consultation.

Ultimately, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) took over her private prosecution and discontinued it. But this story isn’t about her court case – it’s about the “floodgates” she knew would open by stepping into public life as a trans woman. “The level of intimidation was such that I was terrified of turning up at court,” she said after her first hearing last September. “Not from the point of turning up at court and standing on my feet, but from the point of view of my personal safety.”

When first arriving at the courthouse on a crisp but sunny autumn morning last September, you’d have been forgiven for thinking there were just fringe protests, with only 15 people outside. By the time the case had finished for the day though, more than 100 people had gathered, waving signs and banners, singing and chanting. The majority of the talk and slogans weren’t centred around the case itself, instead focusing on the ongoing consultation into the rights of trans and non-binary people.

“No Self-ID,” read one banner, while another displayed the dictionary definition of a “woman”. Other protestors sang songs asserting that “if he wasn’t born a woman he’s a man”, talking about “lopping off” a penis. “They have intimidated me,” Giuliana told RightsInfo, after leaving the court from a different entrance. “They have made me frightened and they have made me scared. And when I leave my house I look left and right. I’m very cautious about answering the telephone. I’ve seriously thought about moving from my house.”

Hmm
ComputerSaysMo · 28/02/2019 13:44

It really would be quite refreshing to see the actual facts reported, wouldn’t it? Hmm

"Hi all

First off, I’m a regular poster, have been here for years under various usernames, it I’m posting here on a name change as I don’t want this traced to me.

On 8th September there was a conference held in London a Bloomsbury Baptist Church which was called We’re Still Here, which featured a variety of panels and workshops and was attended by many prominent people in the pro-GRA reform camp.

I decided to attend to find out what was being said as it was clear that they did not want anyone to attend that wasn’t a TRA or an ally.

What follows are my notes from the day. But first a few notes on attendance:

There were probably 80-100 people in attendance. Overwhelmingly white. Mainly older transwomen. A couple of transmen. Some Mermaids delegates. Some fellow travellers/ allies. And me.

Okay. So here’s my notes (continues)

"[Edward Lord] said that TW were entitled to the protected characteristic “Woman”- he said the Gov dept on woman and equalities has confirmed this. Apparently the brave and stunning vexatious litigator Giuliana Kendall has something to do with this being confirmed.

Edward Lord is worried about the 125 elected members of the London assembly or whatever the fuck Londoners have governing the city. Not all of them are onside. He is worried that all of this is going to be discussed at committee and that “terfs are going to protest”.

Jane Fae said that JF has been in contact w/ YHA and GirlGuiding. Fae is of the opinion that the law doesn’t distinguish gender and sex. They are not defined and parliament will not define them.

The TRAs are fully prepared to take local councils to court of they try to invoke EA2010 for reasons of sex. JF was nodding at Giuliana when JF said this.

James Morton (Scottish Trans Alliance) said to be “strategic about test cases to ensure strong case law”.

Edward Lord agreed. He also said that the City of London Corp city solicitor and the Chief Exec are “strong allies”.

Regards the consultation doc put out by the City of London Corp… Lord implied that they were going to go through the answers and cherry pick the the qualitative snapshots.

One of the Mermaids mums in attendance said the “banner of concerned mothers of vulnerable children shouldn’t be captured by bigots”. Lord is meeting officers about how data is presented and is “conscious of that line of argument”

Jane Fae said the GC side are spreading a myth of predatory males- which doesn’t happen (!!! Lolz Karen White). And also spreading the myth that that TW are paedophiles (Loz Karen White x2).

Then (and Fae didn’t want this tweeted) apparently, there ARE terrible people exploiting The Equalities Act. And they are…

Man Friday
We Need To Talk
Fair Play for Women

According to Fae, all of the above have broken laws and engaged in upskirting and crotch shots of TW. Fae talked about debating Amy Desir of Man Friday about refuges. Amy talked about how female socialisation essentially stops us from refusing TW in our spaces.

JF then asked people not to tweet this next bit because it is libellous: Amy Desir took her husband into the Next changing rooms to commit voyeurism.
Fae (shouting): “Who is the pervert now?!!”

JF hopes that Amy and Man Friday are prosecuted."

article by Inner Integration:
'Flying Monkeys (The Narcissist’s Tool for the Smear Campaign)'
(extract)
"So the role of these flying monkeys is first of all abuse by proxy.

Abuse by proxy is when the narcissist gets other people to abuse you. That way the narcissist gets to abuse you but through these people. They’ll reject you, they’ll make you feel not good enough, they’ll shame you, maybe they’ll put you in a bad situation, they’ll tell you that you’re crazy, things like that. This way the narcissist looks like the one that’s clean. They’re not involved. (continues)

Flying monkeys make the narcissist feel like they’re important and special. They help the narcissist feel like they’re grandiose, like they have high status, like they’re famous or a celebrity, which is what the narcissist wants to feel. Narcissists often have a whole entourage around them just like a celebrity needs an entourage in order to feel secure about themselves.

So who can become flying monkeys?

There are two different categories of people.

The first category is the naive.

The naive are people who are just clueless. They can’t see it, they can’t fathom it, they’ve never been through anything like that, so they can’t even imagine that somebody would do such a thing to just make up all these lies about you and spread them across town. They just can’t even fathom that a human would do that or maybe the naive is also the fawning type.

This is the type of people who when faced with a fight or flight dilemma, they choose fawning instead where they just melt into into a strong, dominant personality to feel safe and they don’t realize what’s happening. You might have noticed that even you became one of these flying monkeys when you were in your naive state before you woke up, before you figured out what was going on.

The second category of people who can become flying monkeys are the toxic.

These are the people with no boundaries. They love gossip and drama, they’re addicted to that stuff. They have an integrity problem and usually they want something from the narcissist. They want status, they want flattery, they want favours. They’re getting something out of the narcissist, which is why they’re willing to do their bidding." (continues)

The idea that if we spent an hour being talked through the trans narrative we would choose to overlook all of the problems is sad. By looking at the problems we might find solutions.

BettyDuMonde · 28/02/2019 16:08

I’m just disappointed they didn’t quote the Leeds Spinners’ banner, ‘Wrong Side of History, My Arse.’
