Mark: a serious offense if you get changed too
Heather: its got nothing to do with being trans, its got to do with your changes and your behaviour. So it’s really frustrating.
Mark: from when you were inside, and talking to the ppl you talk to, whats the overall feeling of women about this?
Heather: so I just talked to my friend from inside there last month and she said, heather you wouldn’t believe it, its absolute chaos in here,
Heather: She [Heather’s friend whose in a correction facility rn] said we have 3 trans rn, they’re bragging that theyre not even transgender, that they’re just IDing as female, in order to get to a female institution, to have sex with the women.
Heather: So now they’re giving out the morning after pill at healthcare bc they’re having sex with the men.
Heather: We also had Matthew Harks/Madeline, she was in Fraser Valley. They petitioned to get her kicked out but she ended up getting released, they brought her to the Dundas halfway house and she got send back bc
Heather: she was harassing one of my friends there so badly, that she couldn’t walk around the house by herself. And then they got her kicked out of Brampton then she went back to Grand Valley.
Heather: And now there is a woman whose filled a grievance [within corrections] against Harks for sexual harassment and trying to sexually assault her. So Harks has been removed, they’re not sure if she’s in another prison or in Max, but shes not on medium compound anymore
Heather: and the scary thing about this is, women’s prisons were not built for biological males. We don’t have the same security measure that male institutions do. Like our medium compound is like minimum for men right?
Mark: yeah your Maxes are kinda like our [male] mediums
Heather: they have an offender from Montreal, he’s evaded police for 13 years and he’s made 2 serious attempts at escape. The 1st time he managed to get metal saws, he cut the restrains and hopped out the back of the transfer bus. They caught him.
Heather: 2 years later, the correctional officers found that he somehow got a nail file and homemade tools and he actually cut the bars out of his cell and made a 35ft rope to escape.
Heather: So this person put in a request to come to a female institution & CSC denied it, citing that it would increase their escape risk & that they cannot maintain the security. Well a judge overruled it & said, she self identifies as a woman, she goes to a woman’s institution
Heather: we’re not built for this, Grand Valley has one 8ft fence that prevents them from getting out. So now its like you’re sending all these dangerous offenders, these sexual predators, into a place where women and children are stuck.
How is that fair?
#BillC16 #TransRights
Mark: and I take it corrections doesnt really talk about this?
Heather: they wont talk about it
Mark: you cant get them to officially acknowledge it one way or the other?
Heather: no, I know women that are in appeals rn trying to get info. from them, bc they’re denying requests
Heather: Its scary, bc we know that once this guys is transferred into a female institution, he’s gonna be in a neighbourhood near you soon. Bc he’s gonna be out of that prison.
Mark: or he’s gonna rape or sexually assault-
Heather: yeah!
Heather: and thats the sad thing, bc in order for anything to get done
A) 1 of the children or women inside have to be severely hurt or
B) someone needs to escape and end up murduring someone in the community
And its sad, but thats what its gonna have to take
