Hi everyone,
We are busy preparing guidance to help you understand the impact of GRA changes on women's rights. We are also raising funds for campaign materials (just 4 days to go!). We are making campaign films to get the message out but will also be using funds to make campaign materials for people to do their own campaigning. We want to inspire and support you, a grassroots army of women, to get the message out. So please give us your ideas on this thread about what materials would help you.

(I can' give post the link to the fund raiser because it breaks Mumsnet rules. But you can find more information about who we are on our website home page).

Is it legal to attach a poster onto private of public property?

RunOfTheMill · 11/07/2018 10:00

Thank you to Fair play volunteers.

Opheliah · 11/07/2018 10:03

Is there a page on the website somewhere that can prepare you for the questions in the consultation with suggested responses?

UglyCathKidstonBag · 11/07/2018 10:18

If you design a leaflet or poster make sure you have more than one type available. Whilst it is great to have a wordy one available, it would be great to have one that is large print and easy to read from the back of a loo door. One sided 50-75 words max, in uncomplicated language for people with no idea about any of this or about feminism. A large QR code with “hold your phone camera over this QR code to be taken to more info” written underneath it.

Wanderabout · 11/07/2018 10:19

Ophelia that is coming soon according to FPFW tweets. I think the consultation is quite meaty so lots to get through.

Wanderabout · 11/07/2018 10:20

Suggestions:
Make sure it has a clear call to action
Make sure it says where to go for further info
Make sure it shows clearly why this will impact women

Wanderabout · 11/07/2018 10:23

Also make clear that we support equality and freedom from discrimination etc for all including trans people. This is about the impact on our rights not issues with others

IAmLurkacus · 11/07/2018 10:25

Stickers that women can carry with them and stick to the inside door of any toilet cubicle they use. Maybe pointing out the 80% figure? The problem with the Stonewall umbrella. Website links, suggestion to photograph the sticker while you’re on the loo then peruse the websites at your leisure?

I’m babbling may expand on idea later once I’ve thought about it.

Printouts that can be attached to toilet doors with tear off strips with the website on? We used to have them at work with the woman’s aid number on a tear off.

Guides and mixed sex overnight accommodation.

There's an important point to be made that self-ID is being instituted because orgs have been trying to "get ahead of the law", as the Labour Party puts it, due to the recommendations in the botched Miller report.

Every single person that I speak to about this is shocked beyond belief. But they might have sex! But my daughter might get pregnant! Or get an STD! What the fuck?!

I'm not a copy writer or an ad specialist, so I have no idea how to condense this into a flyer or similar, but if you can manage something that wakes people up to the realities - the Guides situation seems to do it for everyone I speak to. They get it in nano seconds and are immediately against any and all forms of self-ID.

LangCleg · 11/07/2018 10:31

I would put up stickers!

Eye-catching enough to attract the attention of people browsing supermarket community noticeboards.

MsMcWoodle · 11/07/2018 10:33

Agree with stickers.
Short, snappy. funny would be great.
and call to action.
I've been posting Jeni Harvey's leaflet to loo doors, and although it's great, people probably won't be in there long enough...

Theinconstantgardener · 11/07/2018 10:57

Agree about eye-catching stickers for inside of loo doors. Easy to do, same with same with small leaflets. Also wondering as pp said about public notice boards and permission.Dont want to cause hassle for FPW

Helmetbymidnight · 11/07/2018 11:08

How about pictures of transwomen sports people - with their eyes blacked out - and one line fact about them?

PencilsInSpace · 11/07/2018 11:31

Simple flyers without too much text, also a version suitable to print at home, A5 in B&W without using too much ink (no dark backgrounds)

Stickers

Postcards would be great

yy to QR codes

Keep it simple;

Single sex spaces are to be abolished
this will include all women only spaces
such as toilets and hospital wards

If you want to keep single sex spaces,
fill in the government consultation
and write to your MP.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 11/07/2018 11:59

Simple Facts Posters aimed at general public - punchy and easy to assimilate - 1 page - maybe 4/5 simple bullet points - On different aspects ie

lack of considered consultation/ safeguarding considerations/ proposed legislation coerces consent from women who don't want male bodies around them- eg dv & rape survivors / cultural genocide of lesbians/ unfair treatment of women who adopt male form re inheritance/ how self is abused by predatory men to continue their offending and control of women in women's spaces / 86% retain male genitalia/ weaponising of SM to coerce young people into conflating emotional pain with body dysphoria/sport etc

eg Legislative:

EU legislation adopted without any consultation with British public nor consideration of how it would affect UK legislative environment.

Zero impact studies completed by any UK organisation who has changed their single sex based policies. Govt. recommendations for schools etc issued without critical consideration of legitimate safeguarding concerns

Zero consideration or consultation with women, mothers and parents about the impact of a change in policy. Give examples of girl guides, YHA etc

Also non negotiable changes made ahead of any legislative change unprecedented since Henry 8th when he wanted to get rid of his troublesome wives;)

Only people consulted have been lobby groups heavily funded by those who believe sex change is possible who stand to gain financially.

Legislation not based on biological facts. Sex can't be changed

Current proposals unworkable as leave decisions on case by case basis to front line workers

Why can't women have right to single sex spaces - not only for refuges etc but for any group

Women's international law status ignored by UK govt and organisations

womanformallyknownaswoman · 11/07/2018 12:01

Stickers and slogans great idea - humourous if possible - untameable shrews have some great one liners

Wanderabout · 11/07/2018 12:02

Great points Woman

womanformallyknownaswoman · 11/07/2018 12:07

Also images showing rise of young women being referred to Tavistock/ retained male genitalia stats/ rise in prisoners self id/ which organisations now allow men to sleep with young women with zero notification to parents/ rights being lost by women/ amount spent by prisons on male hormones, n surgery whilst women don't have access to appropriate period products

Plain English - zero jargon

imwideawake · 11/07/2018 12:20

Some kind of leaflet with examples of the threats that are being bandied about on twitter towards women who dare to have an opinion,.
The actual swear words could be blacked out, but at least the public would get to see who the hateful ones really are.

It would show that we are going about things in a peaceful, calm way and not to believe the very biased reporting that happens whenever an event takes place.

And it will be biased. It always is.

That's where your main battle lies.
You need to find ways to counteract the biased reporting that's happening across most of the media.

Helmetbymidnight · 11/07/2018 12:21

I dared debate some of this on FB the other day. Immediately, I was positioned as someone illiberal, intolerant, fascist type! It was quite disorientating, while those on the other side were all 'live and let live,' 'empathy, kindness' etc. etc.

So I'd like to see some literature that takes that from under them but would also attract them...

(this is off the top of my head but hopefully you get the idea.)

Be who you want to be, wear what you want to wear, feel what you want to feel, feel who you want to feel!
Be fluid. Be you! But be aware that women's sex-protections are under threat. Understand what is at stake.

imwideawake · 11/07/2018 12:21

Thank you to Fair play volunteers.

and this.
I think you are all amazing and VERY brave.

bakingdemon · 11/07/2018 12:24

Stats stats stats please, including rebuttals to the numbers bandied about by people who claim this is all no big deal. Figures about the number of supposedly trans kids who would simply go on to be gay if we left them to figure out puberty. Name and shame the organisations which have tried to end women only spaces. The (lack of) evidence on male and female brains.

As others have said, some helpful steers on points to make when filling in the consultation.

I would totally use stickers - I'd put them in my handbag and stick them on every loo door I use. As there is a little person currently pressing hard on my bladder, that is a lot of loo visits Grin

imwideawake · 11/07/2018 12:24

I think that's brilliant.
