Fair Play For Women wants your ideas for GRA campaign materials

Hi everyone,
We are busy preparing guidance to help you understand the impact of GRA changes on women's rights. We are also raising funds for campaign materials (just 4 days to go!). We are making campaign films to get the message out but will also be using funds to make campaign materials for people to do their own campaigning. We want to inspire and support you, a grassroots army of women, to get the message out. So please give us your ideas on this thread about what materials would help you.

(I can' give post the link to the fund raiser because it breaks Mumsnet rules. But you can find more information about who we are on our website home page).

Oh dear. And this - Sorry. I was so excited, I posted this before I RTFT BlushBlushGin

TheBiologicalWoman · 19/07/2018 20:46

This type of question (taken from Twitter comes up time again). Note the perfect reply

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just do away with any concept of gender? Let's just all be people; what difference does it make how somebody dresses? Why do we even need 'women only spaces'?

As somebody said in the NYT, when rape is gender-neutral then we can consider it. Not before.

Sparctopus · 20/07/2018 00:19

Also the point that we don't segregate based on gender (which would make no sense), we segregate based on sex - and sex can't be changed. (Worded a bit better ideally - I'm tired!)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3309913-March?watched=1&msgid=79571741#79571741 idea on this thread here about picketing the party conferences although some are a little late for the GRA

Pratchet · 20/07/2018 04:53

Gender neutral = mixed sex

The finding that male trans people retain male pattern criminality - that has big traction

Suicide figures used by transadvocates are misleading

Their own words and images: the abuse, the threats, the homophobia and the images of themselves in women's bathrooms and changing rooms

Pratchet · 20/07/2018 04:53

Sorry just mulling over leaflet ideas

Pratchet · 20/07/2018 04:54

I want all these now

Pratchet · 20/07/2018 05:01

It's just occurred to me that mass leafleting may be the only way

Pratchet · 20/07/2018 05:03

This looks like the US equivalent of Fair Play

placemats · 20/07/2018 06:19

On the leaflet what you could do is have a cut out beard and moustache (yours to keep for free!) Now you're a man!

It would highlight the ridiculousness of the situation.

I was thinking of Bunty when this popped into my head and also watching the man Friday swimming in Hampstead ponds.

I'd be wary about too much info regarding what men can do to women/girls re self id and invasion of spaces - although this is important. It might make parents stop their daughters from participating in sports/guides etc and also stop women from getting medical treatment.

They're not too late to influence the decision. They're a bit too late to get people to fill out the consultation but I'm not sure that is the best way anyway, I think it's a great idea and would be up for it.

R0wantrees · 20/07/2018 08:45

I think it might be effective to take a number of recent interviews by prominant TRAs from mainstream media and highlight the errors / misinformation / manipulation etc.

Fienda · 20/07/2018 08:50

One quick recommendation, please run all the text you use through online tools like readibility.io to make sure it can be understood by anyone of an average reading age:

As I said, as a grassroots thing we can all make our own videos a la Mancheeze. Just train camera on laptop screen and speak about the video.

R0wantrees · 20/07/2018 08:55

sorry, Eresh, I missed your comment!

Ereshkigal · 20/07/2018 09:00

No I was just referring to what I had said in my earlier late night ramblings, no criticism implied Smile

I know it isn't the same as an official video but if lots of people did it we're generally cleverer, more based in reality and wittier than the average TRA or TRA ally.

seafret · 20/07/2018 09:05

Love these suggestions.

I think that we also need to make sure that we don't let our fear of what may get passed spill over onto the pages of the leaflets.

Most people don't what is at stake and so coming across as 'too worried' or 'too emtional' will be interpreted as paranoia and therefore being ridiculous and hysterical (sadly)

I came up against this when dealing with homelessness and health issues. So many liberal middle types simply didn't believe that the system didn't work and I couldn't 'just' go to the council and all would be sorted. My realsitic angst was seen by some as being over the top by those who had no real clue, but thought they knew better and who trust the system. This is like many members of the public.

We have to make sure that we are positive about women and girls and that our tone has the presumption of success that we will have the right outcome.

We are not on the wrong side of history and so must not fight this as the outsiders or as the radicals. We must put that back on those who think that accepting biology is radical.

seafret · 20/07/2018 09:10

Is there anywhere where we could get togehter in small groups to work on posters etc via MS Office documents or something? Then they coudl be polished by people with design software skills. We are fragmented and the TRAs benefit from that.

I will try to do do a bit but becasue of ehalth and stuff I couldn;t carry the whole thing and am not up to date with softawra dn my computer is shit!

theOtherPamAyres · 15/08/2018 13:22

A "briefing paper" to leave with my MP, or give to my local councillors.

At the moment, they rely on information from Stonewall.

stillathing · 15/08/2018 13:48

Something about busting commonly used propaganda and language might be good. Like how "gatekeeping" often refers to consent and boundaries but it makes it seem like the concept of woman is a fab members (or rather no-members!) only club and we are the nasty bouncers. And "inclusive" is chucked about as if it means something in and of itself. Quite often making something "inclusive" means including men and as a result excluding women. And Hampstead ponds is a great reference to demonstrate how a 3rd space is not at all acceptable to TRAs.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 18:31

That's a great idea! If no one else I would be happy to take a crack at that, am on holiday next week.
