Hi everyone,
We are busy preparing guidance to help you understand the impact of GRA changes on women's rights. We are also raising funds for campaign materials (just 4 days to go!). We are making campaign films to get the message out but will also be using funds to make campaign materials for people to do their own campaigning. We want to inspire and support you, a grassroots army of women, to get the message out. So please give us your ideas on this thread about what materials would help you.

(I can' give post the link to the fund raiser because it breaks Mumsnet rules. But you can find more information about who we are on our website home page).

Would there be any way to include a cartoon strip making fun of TRA's? I think that satire is very good in making a point and also helps to reach a wider audience.

PencilsInSpace · 11/07/2018 18:19

I thought we were being asked what sort of formats would work for us, rather than what the words say, or what the message is. I'm more than happy to trust FPFW on the content Smile

Stilettosandan0venglove · 11/07/2018 19:19

What about some really simple meme type images that we could share on FB or whatsapp? With a single line of text to provoke interest, and the FPFW website.

I'd like some leaflets to print out too, A4 ones to fold would be ideal to give to friends. A sheet to cut up, with a few small ones on could be useful too.

And possibly a couple of variations of leaflet could be available, to appeal to different readers - ie a sports version, for people (men!) who will get the appeal to fairness there better than the need for single sex spaces. We could pick the best approach for the people we're giving it to.

Thanks a million for this campaign DrW I'm going to donate again too.

I would use the stickers.
Make it simple / easy to read.
Make it look modern and friendly - lovely bright colours.

Angryresister · 11/07/2018 20:40

Something aimed directly at girls, stating that however they might feel about their bodies or feeling attraction towards other girls, they can contact other women to discuss this, so that they don't do damage to their body. Stickers or code reader thing good.

Furx · 11/07/2018 20:51

What about a picture of the hairy handed trucker Dave?

Full beard, looking very stereotypically male. Maybe a camera and even some porn mags visible. Looking lika a creepy voyeur.

‚‘this is Dave

If self ID goes ahead the way the government wants

He will be allowed to call himself a woman. No surgery, he won’t even have to shave that beard.

And then he can come into your hospital ward, your changing room, your smear test, your mums nursing home room, and daughters guide pack sleepover.

And YOU will be prosecuted for questioning this

Protect women AND Transwomen

Say NO TO SELF ID.‘

You want to get people thinking WTF.

Furx · 11/07/2018 20:53

I think it’s important to appeal,to women’s natural socisation , they might not necessarily act to protect themselves, but if we make it clear that Dave is a threat to their mum, their daughter and that lovely transwoman they know...

And dave is a natural consequence of self id

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 11/07/2018 22:04

I think a lot of people at the moment need it pointed out to them that even with surgery, you can't actually change sex. Science teaching in schools is clearly going very wrong somewhere.

Also yy to the request for stickers :)

Helmetbymidnight · 11/07/2018 22:20

Stickers are the best because they preserve anonymity...

R0wantrees · 12/07/2018 18:37

Anyone else having problems with the Fairplay for Women website?

LeiaTheSlaya · 12/07/2018 18:37

I'd be happy to plaster some stickers around to get the message out.

OlennasWimple · 12/07/2018 23:34

Nooooo! Steer away from the "Dave is a pervert and is coming to your toilet soon" stuff - the message will turn into "all TW are perverts" which will be shouted down as transphobia and then the battle is lost

Focus on the positives: keeping the single sex exemptions which the law already gives us, and ensuring that organisations know how to use them.

Stickers to go on toilet and changing room doors asking if users want these facilities to remain single sex would be relevant and effective

LeiaTheSlaya · 13/07/2018 00:11

WOW! A £1000 donation made to FPFW fund tonight. Amazing!

James KIrkup The Spectator:
'Labour and Tories finally see the truth about the gender debate'

(extract)
"For all that some people suggest it’s somehow prurient or distasteful to talk about penises in this debate, there is, as Nick Robinson put it in some excellent interviews on the Today Programme yesterday, no way to avoid this. The simple fact is that people with penises, whatever word we use to describe those people, are biologically different to people without penises, and that difference matters to many women in a way that cannot be dismissed as bigotry. It is, again, a simple fact that people with penises have the potential to commit certain acts of violence and abuse against others. That fact is the reason Parliament and society accept the concept of single-sex spaces: women have a right to keep someone with a penis out of those spaces.

Upholding that legal right is possibly the founding principle of several women’s groups that have sprung up since the Government first announced its intent to make it easier for people to change their legal gender. Unlike the charities that lobby for transgender rights, the women’s groups — Woman’s Place UK, Fair Play for Women and ManFriday — have no corporate or public sector funding, and not much money at all. They are genuine grassroots political organisations that have sprung up from a concerned public. Those groups have made a difference. Back in the autumn, that point about female-only spaces was either often ignored or dismissed in political debate. Women talking about penises were ridiculed as bigoted cranks, accused of transphobic misinformation. Their meetings were subjected to violent protests (one person has been convicted of assault) and a bomb threat, threats that went shamefully unremarked on by most politicians. Nevertheless, the women persisted: the meetings continued; the campaigns went on; and it made a difference." (continues)

Those are extremely professional and effective

Floorplan · 15/07/2018 19:48

There must be professional illustrators and designers amongst GC women.

Destinysdaughter · 15/07/2018 20:12

I find a lot of pp naturally assume that 'transwomen' means men who have had their genitalia removed ( or are planning to ) and so don't have much of a problem with it. They don't realise how wide the trans umbrella has become now. So I think it's vital to make this crystal clear to pp.

( personally I'd just have a pic of Danielle Muscato saying 'suck my ladydick', that would do the job...) Grin

TheBiologicalWoman · 15/07/2018 20:36

Thank you. Some great ideas, especially template letter/Q and A for the GRA consultation forms.

I am interested in getting together at local levels with meetings in my area, but am unsure where to begin to find these groups.

I'd like a simple leaflet to give out - stickers sound great for cubicles too.

I’ve been going public lately! - and what comes up again and again is-
People used to feel like this about gays
And
Discrimination is always wrong.
Anything that nails these succinctly/one liners would be welcome.
