From the folk singer and political activist's Twitter feed:

Here’s what I want to know. I’m a butch lesbian. How come NO TRANS PEOPLE EVER have:
-tried to convince me I’m trans
-tried to stop me using “lesbian”
-interrogated me about whether I will have sex with trans women
-erased me in literally any possible way

And yet, conversely, transphobic feminists have repeatedly:
-tried to stop me using queer to describe myself
-interrogated me about who I’m willing to have sex with
-told me the answer makes me “not a lesbian”
-erased my voice repeatedly in their claim to speak for lesbians

I’m not exaggerating even a tiny bit when I say that the level of harassment I have had simply for opposing TERFs is incomparably more than all the homophobia I’ve experienced in my life. So - you’ll forgive me if I find the “defending lesbians” rhetoric a bit hard to swallow

Speechless because you've realised it's true?

How many times do you come across trans activists in real life? Come on tell the truth?

I'm friends with lots of trans people and only know one activist. And they are pretty harmless, just post ridiculous memes sometimes.

ElenOfTheWays · 10/07/2018 18:00

I do feel sorry for Datun in a way, it must be hard to constantly defend the indefensible.

No daimbars that's a description of YOUR position.

I read these threads avidly every day and I have seen who you are and what you stand for very clearly.

I don't feel sorry for you though. I think you know EXACTLY what you're doing.

You know one of these days I'm going to stop biting my tongue and just explode all over this board

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 10/07/2018 18:01

That is what they want so that they can go and tell people how horrid MN is. Lol.

Melamin · 10/07/2018 18:01

IRL I know of someone who is forever reporting people to police for doing things they haven't done when they get in her way. They go through all the rigmarole of interviewing under caution etc and then at the end of it there is never a crime to be guilty of and the person gets 'let off' because 'there is no evidence'. It seems to be a thing with bullies. I have no idea why the police don't just arrest this person for wasting police time, but apparently that is too hard now. It would save them a fortune though. The last victim went to the DM and did a sadface.

nauticant · 10/07/2018 18:03

You're being goaded to wrestle with a pig ElenOfTheWays. Personally I wouldn't bother although it's completely up to you.

Melamin · 10/07/2018 18:04

Daimbars is trying Wink

Exactly why I'm biting my tongue. I just mutter darkly at the cat mostly. Grin

daimbars · 10/07/2018 18:05

I know I bet there are a few readers on here sitting on their hands wanting to call me all the names under the sun.

Maybe ask yourself why you feel so angry? All this anger and hatred is exactly what the problem is.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 10/07/2018 18:07

Maybe ask yourself why you are trying to peak so many lurkers?

Are you a Gender Critical in disguise as a Follower of Genderism?

nauticant · 10/07/2018 18:07

I think most people get irritated when they've been trying to have a good faith discussion but realise they're dealing with dishonesty.

Datun · 10/07/2018 18:08

The only time you would be interviewed under caution is if you were suspected of committing a crime.

That's right. They were.

They hadn't.

All four of them. Actually five.

The only person who's been successfully prosecuted is a transactivist who hit a pensioner.

It remains to be seen what happens to the bomber.

Nah. Im ok. I know the pig always has more fun. I don't intend to engage further.

I've made my point and I know good and well it was understood just fine.

daimbars · 10/07/2018 18:11

Maybe ask yourself whether 'peak trans' - a term that announces your negativity towards all transgender people - is the position you really want to adopt. And then ask yourself why that is?

SlothSlothSloth · 10/07/2018 18:13

*How many times do you come across trans activists in real life? Come on tell the truth?

I'm friends with lots of trans people and only know one activist. And they are pretty harmless, just post ridiculous memes sometimes.*

This is the thing. I think this debate (both sides) is far more focused on the online world than it is on the real one.

I know two trans women i would call “activists”, only in the sense that they constantly Facebook and tweet TRA talking points. These three are quite stereotypical TRAs (obsessed with anime, warhammer and fantasy, identify as lesbians more vocally than any female lesbians I’ve met and love sharing lesbian memes, work in male-dominated industries, make very little attempt to present as women and so on). In real life, they’re fine. They just behave like sort of socially inept men, really. I don’t think they’re coercing anyone, lesbian or otherwise, into sex.

Are aspects of trans ideology totally nonsensical? Yes, absolutely. Is it annoying to see someone claim your biological reality a merely an identity? It can be. Have the government and many private businesses given adequate thought to how to implement trans-friendly policies without affecting women and girls? Clearly, they have not. But I do think the pressure-cooker of Twitter in particular has caused the real-life impact of these things to be exaggerated.

Obviously I also think TRAs vastly overstate the real-life impact of “TERF” ideology.

SlothSlothSloth · 10/07/2018 18:15

Two*

SlothSlothSloth · 10/07/2018 18:18

The condensed version of that is: the internet shapes our culture and what’s said online ON BOTH SIDES does matter, but spending too much time on Twitter and forgetting that most people involved (again on both sides!) are fairly harmless in real life has caused everyone to lose their heads.

ElenOfTheWays · 10/07/2018 18:19

I dont call people names. I'm not 6. Smile

I get angry sometimes but it doesn't come from "hatred". Only frustration and it's never directed at posters personally.

Ha! Don't flatter yourself.

Off to teach kitty some more swear words though. And cook tea.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 10/07/2018 18:23

Interestingly that is their term, not mine.

Ask yourself just what you are doing for the trans community? Let alone the lesbians [who don't want penises and keep saying no].

daimbars · 10/07/2018 18:25

Yes to this! Honestly I bet if Riley Dennis and Datun met in RL they would be perfectly polite and respectful to one another. They might even make friends. Yet on the Internet they are pitched as each other's nemesis.

SlothSlothSloth · 10/07/2018 18:30

Yeah, whenever I see posters saying, for example, how they won’t use preferred pronouns on principle I just think “you cant have met many trans people IRL.” In real life, most normal people would just feel so breathtakingly rude referring to a trans woman as “he” to her face that they simply couldn’t do it.

I’m sure some on here would cry “female socialisation” at this observation, but it’s not, it’s just decency and the impulse the majority of people have to be broadly respectful of others in a face-to-face context.

daimbars · 10/07/2018 18:35

I agree using preferred pronouns is common decency and the refusal to do so looks petty and spiteful.

The self ID challenge would probably get a lot more traction if the spitefulness and hate was taken away but unfortunately the respectful GC posters on here are outnumbered online by the peak trans brigade.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/07/2018 19:18

made to feel I am a rape apologist

Anyone who minimises or dismisses the pressure lesbians are subject to on this subject is a rape apologist, LGBTQIA. There's no way around it.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/07/2018 19:21

I agree using preferred pronouns is common decency and the refusal to do so looks petty and spiteful.

I think that bullying women to force them to repeat lies about the true nature of the class of people that oppress them is a hell of a lot worse than "petty and spiteful", daimbars.

Datun · 10/07/2018 19:23

It needs saying again, this isn't about individuals.

I think Riley J Dennis is a self entitled fool. Who could negatively influence young women. But I don't think he's an actual cunt.

This is about changing the law. It's not about yelling over the fence, you bloody bastards.

It's about safeguarding.

There is a teacher on another thread who said after she had been trained, by a trans lobby group, if she answered all the questions according to her training, she would be disregarding every single safeguarding protocol she had.

It's about dismantling women's boundaries, women's rights, and child safeguarding protocols.

This isn't a game. It's not a ner, ner, ner, ner, ner.

And, it's not about 'my trans mate who's perfectly delightful, I don't know what you're talking about'.

Ereshkigal · 10/07/2018 19:23
