I am a science teacher teaching secondary sex education and genetics

Ever single time. Every single time. Every single time.

I am being asked how men turn into women.

I say they can't. They turn into transwomen. These are men who change their bodies to be as much like women as possible, but are still men.

Every single time I teach pregnancy I am asked how men can do it.

Every single time we go through genetics I get a shocked response for saying "this is male, this is female"

Every single time I make any distinction between male and female I am asked "are you allowed to say that?

I equate being ordered to teach that men can become woman to previous generations of teachers being ordered to teach nazi race science.

I am quite sure I will be sacked one day

From that link.

«People often are unaware of the biological complexity of sex and gender, says Eric Vilain, MD (RES '98, FEL '99), PhD, director of the Center for Gender-Based Biology at UCLA, where he studies the genetics of sexual development and sex differences. "People tend to define sex in a binary way—either wholly male or wholly female—based on physical appearance or by which sex chromosomes an individual carries. But while sex and gender may seem dichotomous, there are in reality many intermediates."»

That's the director of a gender studies department at one of the UK's top universities saying that sex is not binary.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 19:21

Didn't Vilain do that dreadful flawed Nature study that transactivists always cite?

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 19:22

He's very well known for his transactivist stance.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 19:24

Gender based biology?

Is that like genie based physics? There is no such thing as gender based biology. Gender is feelings. Sex based biology is real.

UCLA in California is one of the UK’s top universities? That’s news to me...

daimbars · 10/06/2018 19:25

Mancheeze 'extremist' trans group? The clue is in the headline.

HornyTortoise · 10/06/2018 19:25

Gender based biology?

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 19:26

They have evidence to Maria Miller's inquiry. Do you condemn that?

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 19:29

"UCLA in California is one of the UK’s top universities? That’s news to me..."

Typo. Sorry.

But I am sick of people claiming that science say sex is binary. It doesn't and sex isn't. Binary sex is a construct.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 19:30

Sex is binary and based on reproductive role Smile

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 19:31

Sex is a binary.

If it’s not, how female do you have to be to get pregnant?
Where are the other gametes?

There’s no such thing as gender based biology. It’s a faith based position

TheHandThatRocksTheCradleRules · 10/06/2018 19:34

Many children may take legal action against families, charities and professionals for using Fabricated illness via proxy on them.

placemats · 10/06/2018 19:36

Binary sex is a construct

Yes, finally! It's a biological construct.

Gender is a human construct based on biological sex. Which is why studies on gender are flawed.

For example, it used to be the fault of the woman if she gave birth to daughters and not sons. Science shows that the determination of biological sex is via the sperm. I doubt Henry VIII would agree with me.

TheHandThatRocksTheCradleRules · 10/06/2018 19:39

Actually illness has been induced in children, the drugs they are given are without side effects, so it looks like many adults are going to go to court for in full blow Fabricated and induced illness by proxy on gay and autistic children.

thebewilderness · 10/06/2018 19:41

I love these, especially when people who clearly know nothing about science and are pretty much just copy pasting transactivists soundbites and links to studies that do not prove what they think they prove. argue with Babel grin

My favorite part is when Babel argues back and the wheels come off the poseurs wagon.

thebewilderness · 10/06/2018 19:44

If sex is a binary distributionthere cannot be outliers. There are outliers so sex cannot be a binary distribution. That is scientific fact.

That is the opposite of a fact.
It doesn't matter how many times you repeat your beliefs. They do not become facts by virtue of how hard you believe.

LemonJello · 10/06/2018 19:45

Sex is a binary. Those who produce ova and those who produces sperm.

Intersex people exist. The various intersex conditions usually manifest physically at birth or puberty. The issues are physical, and have nothing to do with transgender.

Transgender people have gender issues. There is no issue with their sex organs.

Intersex and trans are two completely different things.

But I see why some people like to bring intersex into this discussion, to try and make it all ambiguous and “fuzzy peaks”. It’s really, really not.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 19:47

Just doing my bit... ;)

Yes, there are going to be some lawsuits from this. Poor kids.
In the meantime, an awful lot of children are going to be living with the horrendous side effects of puberty blockers for the rest of their lives, having been incorrectly told they’re a ‘harmless pause button.’ And that’s before we even get to the ones who have been given cross sex hormones and surgery. It is heartbreaking.

placemats · 10/06/2018 19:50

To be honest I'm thinking the person is confusing sexuality with sex.

Gender has nothing to do with sexuality by the way.

I'm still awaiting the answer to the question BowlofBabel asked regarding how can humans change sex.

Terfulike · 10/06/2018 19:50

Could I ask Gib, how these trans people will have offspring which survive and reproduce if they are made sterile by their treatments. If they cant they'll die out. Unless it's not a genetic condition. (I think its a mental illness).

Also, if you think they are not male or female (binary) but of a spectrum of sexes how will they reproduce in cases when they are not rendered sterile?

Will they either have large immobile gametes or small motile gametes, or will they perhaps practise parthenocarpy?

If all of them either have large immobile gametes or small motile gametes, wouldn't that be binary reproductive type?

Has any human reproduction been reported that did not involve an ovum and a sperm? If not can we just settle for sperm and egg producers.

mancheeze · 10/06/2018 19:54

If sex is a binary distribution there cannot be outliers. There are outliers so sex cannot be a binary distribution. That is scientific fact.

Someone doesn't understand curves and distribution.

thebewilderness · 10/06/2018 19:55

It is these threads more than any other that demonstrate that transgenderism is a mental illness akin to the other body dysmorphic delusional disorders.

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 19:55

Sex is a binary.

If it’s not, how female do you have to be to get pregnant? Where are the other gametes?

I mean, we're at the tail end of Western civilisation if the main concern of the elite liberal academy is to deny how babies are made, aren't we?

mancheeze · 10/06/2018 19:59

*Binary sex is a construct

Yes, finally! It's a biological construct. *

I love when TA's make the claim that sex is a construct. If you go further with them, they eventually argue that male and female are 'just words' without understanding that language is a symbolic system and that humans perceive difference and apply two symbolic terms to refer to that difference.

IOW, it doesn't matter if we make up 'new words' for male and female, the material difference between the two observed forms remains.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 19:59

Terfulike I really am genuinely sorry.

Intersex people are male or female. I don't know why they are described as outliers. They are male or female people with chromosomal conditions. They are within the binary.

thebewilderness · 10/06/2018 20:01

The horror of it is that there are lobbyists going round to schools inculcating this disorder in healthy children just as society induces anorexia in children.
