I am a science teacher teaching secondary sex education and genetics

Ever single time. Every single time. Every single time.

I am being asked how men turn into women.

I say they can't. They turn into transwomen. These are men who change their bodies to be as much like women as possible, but are still men.

Every single time I teach pregnancy I am asked how men can do it.

Every single time we go through genetics I get a shocked response for saying "this is male, this is female"

Every single time I make any distinction between male and female I am asked "are you allowed to say that?

I equate being ordered to teach that men can become woman to previous generations of teachers being ordered to teach nazi race science.

I am quite sure I will be sacked one day

that means not teaching that sex is dimorphic but teaching that it is a spectrum with a bimodal distribution

mmmm. which peer reviewed science says that?

either your body is of the sex class that produces sperm or your body is of the sex class that produces ova, or you are a member of a very small group who have suffered from a serious developmental disorder.

sounds pretty dimorphic to me.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 16:35

Definitely and that means not teaching that sex is dimorphic but teaching that it is a spectrum with a bimodal distribution

That is not true.

Please do explain to me how a human being can change sex.

bqhl · 10/06/2018 16:37

It's given me the absolute giggles @LangCleg.

That should be our reply on every MN thread from now on.

"Thanks for that recipe! Not all heroes wear capes."

"Brilliant, that's helped me unclog the loo! Not all heroes wear capes."

"Well said Bob. I think coffee's better than tea too. Not all heroes wear capes!"

And we should also all Fight Injustice and say things like "when darkness prevails, as long as we have hope, a light will always flicker."

With solemn little nods and thumping Hanz Zimmer music in the background.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 16:37

If sex is fuzzy, I’m going to ask the excellent question lang cleg has previously asked and say where’s the other gametes?

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 16:39

"At no point does the chromosomes change from XY to XX."

But they are not the only karyotypes. Nor is karyotype as important as you are claiming. For insurance it is possible to have an XY karyotype and be assigned female. See
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgen_insensitivity_syndrome

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 16:39

where’s the other gametes

Every time I ask this question I get a mental of image of a sulky little spermatozoon, refusing to swim and shouting that it identifies as an ovum. And I snigger because I am a very immature woman.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 16:40

Yes I’m aware of the various sex chromosome trisomies and higher order errors. If you’ve got a Y you’re male.

I asked you how humans change sex. How does that work? Assuming you’re a scientist working in the field?

OldCrone · 10/06/2018 16:40

AIS is an intersex condition. Try again.

UpstartCrow · 10/06/2018 16:41

@GibbertyFlibbert
Which set of chromosomes and karyotypes is associated with pregnancy?

Which group needs a morning after pill after they've been raped?

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 16:42

"Please do explain to me how a human being can change sex."

I have explained. You are using made-up, scientifically inaccurate definitions of sex to prove your ideological case. Go with the science which shows that people can "change sex" because all that means is that we have new information on which fuzzy set is the more accurate.

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 16:42

With solemn little nods and thumping Hanz Zimmer music in the background.

See, I'd be crap at the solemn nodding bit. I'd never keep the face straight.

TheHandThatRocksTheCradleRules · 10/06/2018 16:42

Do the superhero capes help the brain accept the alternative science?

UpstartCrow · 10/06/2018 16:43

Stop gaslighting. You;re on a parenting forum pretending not to know who can fall pregnant.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 16:44

You have t explained at all. How does a man, with XY in every nucleate body cell (except x and y bearing sperm of course) change into an XX female?

I don’t understand how it happens. Please, enlighten me.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 16:46

I’m also pretty sure you’re using fuzzy wrong, but I’ll let any mathematicians, computer scientists or physics types sort that.

I’m interested in how the cells of a male person change to have xx chromosomes so they can become a woman. Please, explain to me.

bqhl · 10/06/2018 16:46

With SCIENCE of course Grin

ReluctantCamper · 10/06/2018 16:46

mmm again.

having the appropriate body to get pregnant - again pretty fucking binary.

and if a woman can't get pregnant we don't just all shrug and say 'must be a man then'. We know that there is a problem with her female body

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 16:48

What would the new gametes be called? Are we just having one more gamete or should we go full tumblr and have dozens of them?

placemats · 10/06/2018 16:49

People are born into AIS Gib, a distressing condition for any parent to have to be told their baby has. Those with AIS don't change into it at 3, 7, 9, 12, 16 or as an adult.

OldCrone · 10/06/2018 16:50

gibberty
You haven't explained anything. You've linked to two articles about intersex conditions. Nothing about how a man (xy chromosomes) can become a woman (xx chromosomes). How does that happen?

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 16:50

I think we go full super symmetry and create an entire suite of them!

As I. I Rabi said when the muon was discovered, ‘who ordered that?’

ReluctantCamper · 10/06/2018 16:51

errm, I think the new gametes would be called

'oh fuck now we have to form a quorum to make a baby'

and

'I guess the human race is fucked'

probably the scientists will joosh it up a bit though

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 16:54

you are using made-up, scientifically inaccurate definitions of sex

Can we just regroup before progressing to remember the person saying this has NO definitions of
Sex
Gender
Male
Female
Man
or Woman

As you were
