Transgender man gives birth and wants to be recorded as baby's father

I just heard this on the news. This fucked up person says it's a breach of their human rights not to be recorded as the baby's father.

I'm kind of running out of words to express my feelings about this

I hate this ... in these kind of situations the child's rights have to be paramount - no centring men or women but THE BABY .... they are not an accessory but a person with their own rights...

It's nothing to do with what's best for the poor baby. The only child in the world to not have a mother but a victory for trans rights. I'm sure the kid will be really thrilled about that.

Why does it matter to you how someone is recorded on their baby's birth certificate? I'm not asking that in a 'goady' tone, I am genuinely curious about what impact you see this having, etc.

It matters because public records should record facts.

If you give birth to a child and you are a mammal, then you are female. In English, the word for a female who gives birth, is mother.

Not father.

Because only women can bear children Screaming and there are a whole host of legal protections that go with that. If anyone can bear children, then we erode a lot of those.

It's also a fucking nonsense. Men can't get pregnant. It's gaslighting this person's poor kid

I also think that someone who is so caught up in her own drama about her identity and her feelz and her existential being, is probably not going to be very good at putting her child's needs first. She hasn't come to terms with the fact that she is a woman. She's still in deep denial about her own biological reality. She's so far in denial that she is fighting the state to get her delusion validated.

How can someone in that mental state, possibly put her child's needs before her own?

Are you saying that the transman would forfeit the legal protections afforded to mothers by using 'father' on the birth certificate? What are the legal criteria to benefit from, e.g. employment rights afforded during maternity?

Oh FGS. This shows what happens when you allow nonsense into law in the first place. Men can't become women, women can't father children.
Birth certificates should state the reproductive facts, they should not be changable (with the exception of people with disorders of sexual development whose sex could not be recorded at birth). The GRA should be repealed, and if necessary cases be taken back to the European Court of Human Rights for a proper assessment of the implications on the rest of society of allowing people to legally change sex. That assessment was never done in the case which led to the GRA idiocy in the first place, as it was believed the numbers of people who would request a legal sex change would be to small to affect the rest of us.

So the sperm supplier will be the mum? The child won't 'legally' have a dad? If the one who gave birth thinks they are male then are they a seahorse?

Parent would be a good compromise for both baby and parent. Would need some legal bods to check the legal ramifications for both parties.

People accept gay parents.

@asaprofessionalfekko, I was wondering that, doesn't that remove the rights of the actual father, ie, the one whose sperm fertilised ovum, as opposed to the 'father' whose ovum was fertilised by.................. somebody has been erased here. It's not a woman this time round but it is bonkers.

And who is looking after / considering the rights of the child? This seems to be all about the adult wishes?

What is the legal basis for the rights of mother/father, where these differ? In a court case, for instance, would the designations on the birth certificate make a difference to the outcome of a hearing?

I hope that child grows up to be a tax accountant or a vicar - something just to hack them off.

I agree with askauntlydia, anybody fighting to get the state to validate their delusion is not going to be able to empathise with their child. The child will have to be the son/daughter of a father -that is its role

I still wonder about the baby of the male bodied person who took a cocktail of drugs in order to produce a trickle of 'milk' to 'chest feed' the baby with.

God one knows what was going into that child - don't we check every bloody label when pregnant or breast feeding for warnings?

Gay parents don't seek to change or replace birth certificates, they might get an adoption order or gain parental responsibility another way. They aren't recorded as the birth mother (or father if a lesbian couple).

I am totally struggling to understand this - you decide that you are not a woman but a man and therefore reject your female body and yet you go on to do THE most female thing possible and give birth to a baby.

I honestly cannot understand this. I can understand someone who truly believes that they have been born into the wrong body and therefore choose to change the outward appearance of their body to align with how they feel but I cannot understand not "feeling" like a woman and yet doing the most female of things.

What does this mean? Should there no longer be any distinction between male and female? Maybe we should all be an "it" and can pick and choose how we act, dress, live our lives on an ever changing basis depending on how we "feel" at any given time?
