The right to bare arms.....for women only

As a man reading some of these threads, the fear women have of male violence is greater than I realised.

Is a 2nd amendment, for women, a solution?

Pro gun women in America say the gun is the great equaliser. They say it makes them safer. I think it's a good argument.

The solution to bare arms is a cardigan.

Chachachac · 14/05/2018 17:50

I thought this was going to be about sleeveless tops Confused

Doh!

This is a dreadful idea.

It’s not an equaliser is the violent man you are pointing it at disarms you and uses it on you.

It’s not safer if your child finds it and shoots themselves/a sibling/you with it.

starsandstuff · 14/05/2018 17:53

Men not being violent seems like the best solution to me. As a man, have you any idea how you might convince your brothers of dame? TIA

starsandstuff · 14/05/2018 17:53

*same

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 14/05/2018 17:54

Is it not the right to bear arms?

I thought it was a cardi thread too!

Saucery · 14/05/2018 17:56

I don’t want to carry a gun. I want men to leave me alone. It is possible for them to do this, they do know when their behaviour is wrong.

abbsisspartacus · 14/05/2018 17:57

Absolutely control your own actions and I will control mine

TERFragetteCity · 14/05/2018 17:58

Ok, so go and campaign to stop men being violent and to increase sentencing/implement teaching men how to live without being violent and controlling/stop raping and killing women. And just let us get on with our lives. K?

Anlaf · 14/05/2018 17:59

I also thought this was a gripe about unfair office dress codes in summer.

This is a comically terrible idea, but one suggested to me when I chatted to a (male) friend about the street harassment I get. "You should just...shoot them" he said really helpfully and I guess dismissing the issue from any further thought

Pratchet · 14/05/2018 17:59

Can we change the title! lol at cardi

Yes I think we should be allowed to carry weapons, a taser maybe.

TheCrowFromBelow · 14/05/2018 18:00

I thought some bloke had turned up in a vest at your office to protest against a dress code eg sleeveless tops for women only.
Guns lead to more deaths. Telling women they should carry a gun to protect themselves is ignoring the fact that if men stopped being violent we wouldn’t need protecting as much.
Victim blaming, isn’t it?
Don’t fall for the NRA narrative.

It is the great equalizer

It makes everyone equally stupid

It is "bear arms". My mistake.

Best solution is for men to be less violent, I agree.

Reading a previous thread, a number of women mentioned a fear of men, based around their physical dominance. The idea that they couldn't defend themselves if attacked.

Is it not just a few steps up from self defence training.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 14/05/2018 18:03

Of course it isn’t. Do you honestly think women walking round armed will help anything? It’s an absolutely ridiculous idea. Don’t you think men will take their guns?

TERFragetteCity · 14/05/2018 18:03

Is it not just a few steps up from self defence training.

Why should I pay and take time out of my life to learn self defence training, when men could - you know - just stop raping and murdering women?

HotRocker · 14/05/2018 18:05

What a good idea, let’s reduce the level of violence in our society by carrying guns. Because it works in America doesn’t it…
How about instead of issuing women deadly firearms, men could stop being violent instead?

TERFragetteCity · 14/05/2018 18:05

And if women were to bear arms, everyone knows they would get higher sentences if they did kill someone in self defence, whereas a man who rapes/murders would get a lesser sentence.

Go and use your time getting men to stop raping and killing women.

I thought this would be a thread applauding Michelle Obama. Now there is a woman with the right to bare arms.

Would a female-only gun policy improve safety? Very doubtful. Because gun ownership does not improve safety - see graph correlating gun ownership and gun death.

WhereYouLeftIt · 14/05/2018 18:06

Ridiculous idea.

Teenagers going out with knives 'for protection' are more likely to be stabbed, and with their own knife. How would guns be any different? Women are physically weaker, would be easily disarmed by a stronger male.

How about, as a solution, violent men stop being such assholes and deal with their violence, instead of taking it out on other people? We fear the violence, and we fear men because they are violent. If the violence stopped, we'd have no reason to fear men.

ArcheryAnnie · 14/05/2018 18:07

I think a better argument would be to put your own house in order, whatnow123, and stop so many men hurting women.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 14/05/2018 18:09

Ah yes I love countries where I have I in 315 chance of dying thanks to a gun.
And as we know, there's been a barely any violence towards women thanks to gun ownership. Oh wait... eye roll. What an utterly ridiculous statement on every level.
