As a man reading some of these threads, the fear women have of male violence is greater than I realised.

Is a 2nd amendment, for women, a solution?

Pro gun women in America say the gun is the great equaliser. They say it makes them safer. I think it's a good argument.

Alcohol is just an excuse to be violent.

Unfortunately everything we ban just seems to go underground and become more dangerous. Much better would be to invest in the issues people face that cause them to self medicate with various things - food, drugs, alcohol, sex etc

Really? That doesn't necessarily follow at all. They definitely wanted money , whether they needed it and this was the only way to get it is a big assumption.

A ban on alcohol would be step one. Violent would be cut in half overnight.

Alcohol doesn't change a persons fundamental personality. If someone has a propensity to violence then drinking alcohol doesn't change that it just makes them act on that propensity faster.
Ban men or at least have them microchipped so that women can access information about them, such as if they have been convicted of a violent or sexual crime or have a history of domestic abuse.
That's my solution. Its better than a gun.
