Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Trans unpeak.

After reaching peak trans I have followed a few well known Radical Feminist groups on SM to learn more.

Sadly I have come across actual genuine transphobia in GC groups which I thought was just propaganda put out by TRAs.

Because I only ever hung around in naice intellectual spaces such as here, I thought they would all be a bit like MN feminist chat.

One summary of a conversation went along the lines of

Group post
"There's a Transwoman fitting bras at a London branch of M&S" Shock face.

Replies include "oh no (angry face) I'm never taking my daughter there"

Me:
"Men can work as a bra fitter. We should be able to ask staff for a female fitter if we want one"

Cue loads of hypothetical scenarios that we don't know will ever happen and predictable posts about AGP and boycotting M&S.

Anyway this is just one example of many I've come across recently.

I just suppose, as GC feminists perhaps we should be doing more to call out transphobia when we do see it because it seems lots of people are using GC feminism to express their hostility to Transpeople.

MsBeaujangles
What you don't seem to acknowledge is what is perceived as hostility and transphobia by you, may be viewed as a reasoned perspective by others

Yes it's difficult

I know, they’ll screen grab it and it’ll be all over Twitter tomorrow but I can’t take it anymore.

So what you're saying, OP
is that a male person (who probably still has his penis, statistically)
is the member of staff chosen as the MOST appropriate person to assist female customers in a state of half nakedness
Both women and young girls
And to object to this choice being presented as a default is transphobic?

And that's your definition of transphobia, and you've unpeaked as a result of witnessing women's objections to being presented with a male underwear assistant?

Because I always thinks it helps clarify things for the lurkers is they are re-stated.

Once again:
Women are transphobic
If they object to male people being the default assistant
When they are naked?

Enjoy your unpeak moment.
I'd publicise it as widely as you can to educate people.
Really, really widely.
I'd share it for you but I'm off to bed.

Teacuphiccup I'm half with you, I take a sister size for comfort...so a 32D measurement a sister size is 34E.

Also I have concerns over ahem 'spaniel ears' boobs on the leaning forward measurement Blush

HopScotchy · 20/04/2018 22:29

The whole idea that it's 'difficult' to allow women to set boundaries from males is a falsehood. A deliberate contrivance. It's not 'difficult' practically not legally. The issue is people are debating if women have the right to set boundaries or not. We do. And these boundaries are not 'bigotry' they apply to males, trans or not trans, equally. There is no reason to expect or demand women make an exception for trans ID males when setting boundaries to exclude males.

ReluctantCamper · 20/04/2018 22:32

yes HopScotchy. So lets talk about gynecology for a moment.

I had a male HCP insert a speculum into me once. I hated it, I promised myself it will never happen again. There's no particular reason, I just didn't like it.

And that's enough. That's my boundary. And it's more important than validating someones gender identity.

ReluctantCamper · 20/04/2018 22:34

also, I think you're delusional Greymisty. The support should come from the back band, not the shoulder straps.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 20/04/2018 22:34

Im boycotting M&S bra fitting because they are shit

And im attempting to get all my friends to boycott them until they change their measuring...im getting mixed success to be honest, they have some awfully pretty bras to be fair

I'm in stitches sallyanne!

The best way to measure is by putting boob in measure cup.
A Cup is they fit in an Egg cup.
B cup is they fit in a Tea Cup.
C Cup they fit in a pudding bowl
D cup they fit in a small mixing bowl
E cup they fit on Large Mixing Bowl
F cup you dont need a bra you need scaffolding.
Quite simple stay at home and measure your own

Oh the visual images!

Teacuphiccup · 20/04/2018 22:36

Don’t tell me where my support should come from camper you are literally saying crop top bras don’t exist.

BarrackerBarmer · 20/04/2018 22:38

Here's my rule of thumb.

If touching is involved, or nakedness, or bodily vulnerability, or intimate healthcare or anything that is specific to my sex, then the default provision should be same sex provider, and if that is impossible as the default, then it MUST be an option I can request, and there must be a bloody good reason as to why it was apparently impossible to find a female. Providing me with a male in those circumstances must be an absolute last resort, and one I can opt out of, and arguably, it might be better to have no service at all than one that might make women profoundly uncomfortable and likely to avoid availing themselves of the service entirely.

No male, no transwoman should be the default in those circumstances.

This is a basic principle of bodily dignity and fairness that has been in our society for ages, and is why we don't have male security guards patting down women in airports with a sign saying 'ask for a woman if you really really must, bigot'

If you are serving me coffee or servicing my car or doing my accounts I do not care what sex (or gender identity) you are as it is entirely irrelevant to your job.

women's bodies; women's boundaries; women's wishes.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 20/04/2018 22:39

Agree with barracker

Greymisty · 20/04/2018 22:39

Yeah ReluctantCamper don't tell me and teacup where our support comes from.
