I agree about the obituary comment- I read it as if this is the life he was leading and he pissed it away.

I heard that he had his car taken off him- it had been provided by one of Ulster’s sponsors and they took it off him when this all kicked off. Hope he liked the bus.

kikashi · 16/04/2018 12:47

What did he promise the journalist in return of this puff piece.

The poor, baby faced wee lad found himself in "hot water" over blacking up as a slave - what larks! Sure, he was only jesting - whats the fuss?

He's a joker, he baby sits and likes drawing superheroes and miming to rap songs - what a wee dote. Reinstate him asap!

The BelTel should be discussing how to change attitudes to women in NI not painting this rosy portrait.

BananaBat · 16/04/2018 13:04

Also love the way they said “blacking up” in inverted commas In a AS SOME UPTIGHT KILLJOYS MIGHT CALL IT type way. I think you’ll find it’s just blacking up, it’s massively racist and he totally went for it.

Step · 16/04/2018 13:11

Phew I'm not going mad.... the world is.

BusterTheBulldog · 16/04/2018 13:43

That article is utterly bizzare! As though written by a 6 year old / work experience for hello. I don’t even understand it. Particular highlight was it pointing out his below average a level results, wtf?!

frecklemcspeckles · 16/04/2018 13:49

And the article just stops... Doesn't go anywhere... Just a little list of the joker boys' wonderful attributes then a full stop. What on earth was the point??!!!

There's nothing that rescues this article journalistically!!!! Angry

That article. My god. What the fuck have I just read.

summacummamumma · 16/04/2018 15:20

It describes his performance in the Heineken Cup Final as 'not his finest hour'...hmmm I can think of another instance where his performance was not his bloody finest!!

I am absolutely seething...who is that journalist? Can you can that piece journalism? Bizarre and clearly illustrates where the BelTel stands...BOYCOTT!!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/04/2018 17:14

I was reading it waiting for the point - but there was no point... Confused

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 16/04/2018 17:49

What the actual fuck was that article about?? Confused has he died??

Aside from this, I have always been a bit Hmm when someone is described or describes themselves as the joker of the class/team. Long before I even knew who paddy Jackson was. I always change it for “I’m the annoying prick of the class who everyone laughs at when I’m not looking” paddy Jackson has absolutely cemented my hatred of that term.

Absolutely agree. When someone is described as a joker, I visualise this.

treaclesoda · 16/04/2018 17:56

The more I read about Paddy Jackson, even the stuff that is meant to paint him in a good light, the more loathsome he sounds to me.

Chaosandchocolate · 16/04/2018 18:00

Annwithnoe thanks for your post and links. Lots to think about.

Annwithnoe · 16/04/2018 18:49

the beltel article doesn’t go anywhere because it dropped the last two paragraphs of the same article that was printed on independent.ie two weeks ago. Couldn’t even dredge up anything new to say.

kikashi · 16/04/2018 19:26

Thanks Ann I also felt sad when I read how the "complainant" had looked for the Rape crisis centre but found it had closed. The sexual health clinic helped her - good on them but she still had to travel quite a way in at taxi (of her own bat) to a specialist centre to have the evidence taken (and was examined by a male doctor there).

We need to do so, so much better.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/04/2018 19:28

This is an interesting article from the BBC suggesting that the pair might not play for Ireland again.

buckeejit · 16/04/2018 19:38

Bananabat-that podcast sounds good, will look it out. The stats from sex workers in the porn industry are really depressing-can't remember exactly but lots of PTSD & suicide/attempted suicide after leaving it. Education around porn in school would be a good start. I think it's gone past the stage where a type of fair trade porn would work but there needs to be something done-is it broached at all in schools currently?

The Cork school news is horrific. Sadly a lot of the community were annoyed about it becoming mainstream news as worried for their daughter on 'the list'

I broke up with the Belfast Telegraph a couple of weeks ago. They showed their true despicable colours through this case. The fact that the journalism is pants is in no way surprising either.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/04/2018 19:44

Clermont are now denying any interest in Jackson.

whatyadoing · 16/04/2018 19:54

I would hate to see anyone signing him up.

powershowerforanhour · 16/04/2018 20:07

WTAF BelTel? That article is an absolute load of toss. Mind you the paper has form for bad journalism. In the not too distant past they published an article lambasting midwifery/obstetrics in NI citing some statistic about the number of stillbirths/infant deaths in the immediate postnatal period as compared with the rest of the UK. Near the end of the article they did include a midwife's comment in quotation marks part of which pointed out that abortion even in cases of fatal foetal abnormality is illegal here. That was it. No further discussion of her comment or attempt to guage how much of the differential was due to the fact that abortion for FFA is legal elsewhere. Zero. Zip. Nada. It was the most embarrassingly bad attempt at reporting a piece of science that I have ever seen.

Totallymyownperson · 16/04/2018 20:15

English clubs not interested either

peanut2017 · 16/04/2018 21:18

Delighted to see that both clubs have distanced themselves from the two of them. Might make them stop to think and reflect on their terrible behaviour and attitude towards women

JustIgnoreMeSure · 16/04/2018 22:18

@Annwithnoe

"Personally I do assume that if a rape case gets to court the defendant is probably guilty regardless of the outcome"

What a truly bizarre, backwards, and if i may so - odious - statement

You might want to adjust your mask as it has rather slipped!

Can you re-assure us that you will shout the same principle so boldly if it happens to be a female defendant in the dock?

After all, you do realise consent is a 2-way street don't you??
