Has anyone else from NI written and deleted lots of posts? I find it so hard to post without giving away details that -NI being NI - could easily be identifiable.

Any way, just seen a highly educated female lawyer with daughters I know posting a family photo with one of the ones banned and then a post tagged at Kingspan saying ‘standing up for the ulstermen’.

HRHPrincessMegan · 16/04/2018 08:49

I don’t have a problem with porn per se, but I do have a massive problem with how sex is portrayed in porn: entirely for a man’s pleasure and however that may be achieved. I don’t think violence/making partners bleed is exclusive to hetero porn either - gay porn can be just as bad. I don’t think the industry will ever go away or be regulated. Change will only happen from within which is possible if the women in the industry move behind the cameras.

BananaBat · 16/04/2018 08:49

I feel like I’m in the handmaids tale and looking round all the women I know and thinking ‘you’re one of us’ or ‘you’re with them’ (about feminism I hasten to add not any other kind of divide!!!)

BananaBat · 16/04/2018 08:54

I can’t recommend the second captain podcast enough as it is men - decent men - talking about the culture of creating sports stars who think they’re untouchable, and the effect of porn on young men. Really interesting and non-judgmental and thought provoking. (Non judgmental in that they talk about what boys see and get them to talk openly about it, not non judgmental about rape).

U105's phone in this morning. Paddy Wallace hopes the men get the chance to rebuild their careers in France and be welcomed back to Kingspan in future years.
The next caller (older woman) tee hee'd at the what's app language and said something along the lines of well I'm sure they were very drunk and men say these things. Angry

Thankfully the wider show this morning focuses on rape culture and the issues with the "lists" of girls to be raped at a school in Cork which is truly shocking. I hadn't heard of it before this morning!

TheCraicDealer · 16/04/2018 09:45

This is the kind of shit that happens when you let a culture develop where men think they can do what they want to a woman with no repercussions-

I can't even look at the BelTel website any more. I've read so much and read so many comments and found myself responding to some, calmly, just pointing out some basic facts eg no one protesting is dismissing the fact that they were acquitted, it's much wider than that. Only to be met with abuse. Including someone who is stalking me so badly that I'm contemplating having to contact the police about harassment.

I need to just stop reading it.

Yeah I'm from Cork aswell, disgusting. The first thing I thought of when I heard that story was this case and how the boys must have been thinking, sure rape is allowed anyway :/

BananaBat · 16/04/2018 11:11

Am really shocked and disappointed that paddy Wallace said that.

frecklemcspeckles · 16/04/2018 11:31

Yes Bananabat. To be fair to him I'm relaying two sentences out of a number where he agreed it wasn't appropriate for them to go back now and that the club made the right decision. But I was disappointed he thought they'd be welcomed back by fans in the future and should be allowed to build their careers again. He did say it wouldn't be appropriate for that to happen in Ireland or indeed perhaps the whole of the UK.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 16/04/2018 11:49

I have to say I find the idea that either could walk straight into jobs more than slightly depressing

Serious question, would your preferred outcome be that they remain unemployed or in some minimum wage job for the rest of their lives?

Yes, they will get picked up by some other clubs, they will also be on a fraction of their previous earnings.

PaulDacreRimsGeese · 16/04/2018 12:05

You and yours ARE worth support bumble. I'm Catholic but religion has fuck all to do with that. You matter.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 16/04/2018 12:25

What is the BelTel saying this morning? I don't want to read it. I take it its a sympathetic piece about how they shouldn't have been dropped from UR?

Step · 16/04/2018 12:28

feckty feck feck is this
www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/paddy-jackson-the-popular-joker-who-established-himself-among-rugby-greats-36805544.html

What a jolly chap he is... what with his attitude to women, his blacked up shenanigans and his lovely non aggressive attitude to social media he's just the chap to date your daughter. Did he pay for this? W that actual F.......

treaclesoda · 16/04/2018 12:33

I shouldn't have clicked on that link Angry

HRHPrincessMegan · 16/04/2018 12:33

No, not at all. But I don’t think they should be able to simply pick up where they left off by walking into another club. I’ve seened it my own industry: the harassers and bullies, more often than not get away with and if they don’t, they get paid off and simply move on to the next firm. Meanwhile the victims of the harassment get managed out of their jobs and struggle to find new employment.

treaclesoda · 16/04/2018 12:33

I told myself to stay away. I should have listened to myself.

BananaBat · 16/04/2018 12:35

Jeez tis not hard to see the misogyny deep in the beltel!

HRHPrincessMegan · 16/04/2018 12:40

Step - that article reads like an obituary.

kikashi · 16/04/2018 12:40

Paddy is "passive, polite, a gentleman" don't cha know -according to his doctor friend, Katie Donaldson when she was a character witness at the trial.

Yeah right Hmm.

The Bel Tele should be ashamed of themselves for their coverage throughout this trial. I felt it was usually very biased in favour of "the lads"

Step · 16/04/2018 12:44

I thought it read like a Hello magazine article, ok a wee bit short of come see round my beautiful home but "what a naice boy our Patrick" is. A jolly jaiper who knows lots of lovely people...

Wound me up.
